Is LAX Operating Only South Complex?

Fri May 01, 2020 3:52 am

I asked a similar question about DFW and the knowledgeable replies were quite informative and interesting.

From a few random looks it appears most if not all landings and takeoffs at LAX are on the south complex.

However I know that after midnight arrivals are normally routed to an east flow landing on the north side while takeoffs continue to the west on the south side. Is that still the case during the C19 pandemic or do they just space arrivals on the south side between the relatively few takeoffs?

Operating absolutely normal. Both complexes in regular use.

LAX only has one tower so the it doesn’t matter to close any of it.

Just random quirk of timing.

Was out spotting for 4hrs tonight (actually, just out picnicking with friends on the Westchester bridge) and the complexes were split for ops as per usual.

DL and WN are the only two major operators there that routinely use the north side. Add to that Asian arrivals (currently few) and A380 operators (currently none); so that's probably why you didn't see much for most of the day.

Landed at LAX one week ago on the North runways with DL, departed on the South with AF
