Looks like the Swift Air 737-800 (N820TJ) that passed through VCV the other day lost (a small) part of its tail in flight on the VCV-SAN leg. :shock:

Looks like the duo of American Eagle CRJ-900ERs will be leaving VCV tomorrow (Sunday May 24) at 1:30PM local. Anyone know why they were here? Unlikely for maintenance as AA have their own MX bases. I doubt they’d want to spend money on a repaint. Possible charter??? AA9883 is N944LR headed to PHX, while AA9884 is N945LR headed to ELP.

Other way around, N944LR flew ELP-VCV on May 18 and will fly VCV-ELP tomorrow and N945LR flew DFW-VCV on May 19 and flies back to PHX tomorrow, the 24th. These are both Mesa aircraft so I'm not sure why one is going to ELP but the one going back to PHX could very well be headed to temporary parking at the Mesa Hangar on the north side unless it will re enter service. They are not big airplanes and it is too late to drive to VCV, I live about 3 miles away, I'd guess they came in to get either a new coat of AA Eagle paint or in to the much more bland Mesa house livery, white with a black tail that says Mesa on it.

Based off of the starting position (initial adsb on position), it looks like N944LR and N945LR WERE at VCV for paint :shock:

Amazed they would ‘waste’ money like that, especially this far into COVID. I get that there are contracts and things like that, but US has been on lockdown for months. Surely they would’ve figured out a better use of those funds?? :roll:

No, sorry. FX1816 suggested a few posts up thread that they could be repainted into the current scheme (so just a paint touch up), or the black and white Mesa livery.

That’s a massive part of the vertical stabilizer. I’m shocked this isn’t making more news

It appears that Qantas flew a 744 from Sydney to LAX and onto Mojave last week. I didn't see this reported?? I know early on most went to Mojave for retirement, but I wonder why Mojave now and not Victorville as this is where most recent ones have gone.

As mentioned by FL420FT in the Australian Aviation Thread, the 3 remaining Qantas 747-400ERs will ferry SYD-LAX-MHV in June as QF6001. Departure from SYD will be 9:30AM while arrival at LAX will be 6:20AM. They’ll depart the next morning under the same callsign.

Registration - MHV Tentative Arrival Date
VH-OEI - June 3
VH-OEE - June 17
VH-OEJ - July 1
