Looks like the Swift Air 737-800 (N820TJ) that passed through VCV the other day lost (a small) part of its tail in flight on the VCV-SAN leg.

Looks like the duo of American Eagle CRJ-900ERs will be leaving VCV tomorrow (Sunday May 24) at 1:30PM local. Anyone know why they were here? Unlikely for maintenance as AA have their own MX bases. I doubt they’d want to spend money on a repaint. Possible charter??? AA9883 is N944LR headed to PHX, while AA9884 is N945LR headed to ELP.

Wasn't this plane just taken out of storage recently?

Yes, according to planespotters it was taken out of storage on April 26, 2020.

Standard visit. Plane is in Honolulu now after routing through the Pacific Rim on most likely military flights.

Other way around, N944LR flew ELP-VCV on May 18 and will fly VCV-ELP tomorrow and N945LR flew DFW-VCV on May 19 and flies back to PHX tomorrow, the 24th. These are both Mesa aircraft so I'm not sure why one is going to ELP but the one going back to PHX could very well be headed to temporary parking at the Mesa Hangar on the north side unless it will re enter service. They are not big airplanes and it is too late to drive to VCV, I live about 3 miles away, I'd guess they came in to get either a new coat of AA Eagle paint or in to the much more bland Mesa house livery, white with a black tail that says Mesa on it.

Wow, it looks like AA switched the planes’ flight #s compared to the inbound, thx for the correction. They’re leaving tomorrow (Sunday May 24), so as of now (Saturday night) not too late lol.

Based off of the starting position (initial adsb on position), it looks like N944LR and N945LR WERE at VCV for paint  Amazed they would ‘waste’ money like that, especially this far into COVID. I get that there are contracts and things like that, but US has been on lockdown for months. Surely they would’ve figured out a better use of those funds??

No, sorry. FX1816 suggested a few posts up thread that they could be repainted into the current scheme (so just a paint touch up), or the black and white Mesa livery.

It appears that Qantas flew a 744 from Sydney to LAX and onto Mojave last week. I didn't see this reported?? I know early on most went to Mojave for retirement, but I wonder why Mojave now and not Victorville as this is where most recent ones have gone.

It was mentioned 3 times on page 2 (flight to MHV and pics towards the bottom), I don’t know the post #s (sorry) because I’m typing this up on my phone and it doesn’t show them. The most recent ones have gone to MHV (VH-OEH/OEG) and SBD (VH-OEF).

My favorite airport in the US. Hands down. Need to get back out that way sometime. Love the "kinda inside, kinda outside" construction of the place. A testament to the climate.

Spent a couple summers in Rancho Mirage years ago, back when they rolled up the sidewalks more than they do now, and fewer people came year-round. That's where she was, so that's where I went.

On the way down the 111 one blistering afternoon, in so much desert sun I could fry an egg on the dashboard, I noticed that the readerboard on one of the motels said, "But it's a dry heat".

Perfect.

Ex flynas 777-200ER VP-BYX at VCV has been re-registered as N771KW, and will be placed with Eastern Airlines in the future. The aircraft was re-registered on May 29, 2020, and is leased from Pembroke. Does anybody know when it will be delivered and/or if it is currently in the Eastern Airlines livery? Thanks in advance for any info, I would definitely head out to VCV to see this if so.

As mentioned by FL420FT in the Australian Aviation Thread, Qantas 747-400ER VH-OEI SYD-LAX is delayed by one day, arrival is now June 3rd. Ferry LAX-MHV will presumably be on the morning of June 4th. Times and flight number have not changed.

Air India (Government VIP) 777-300ER VT-ALW flew out of SBD a few moments ago, does anybody know where it is headed/if this is a test flight?

More action at SBD: Northrop Grumman L1011 N140SC has its transponder ON. Nothing filed yet for departure, likely undergoing a few final checks before flying back to MHV base in the coming days.

Looks like the end destination was AFW. Hopefully it does come back and/or VT-ALV flies in at a later date.
