What's the story behind it? Back operating for the Mexican Governrnent or is it sold?

No one will buy it. USA, Canada? Don't buy used. Big European countries? Don't buy used. Japan? China? Korea? Don't buy used. Australia & New Zealand? Don't buy used. Oh wait! UAE... NEVER hahaha.

What about Latin America? Nope, not even Brazil buy used. Africa? NEVER.

No one will ever buy that Boeing 787-8. This government is a disgrace. Sell something in 120 that costed you 180? REALLY?

My toughts? VCV its getting EXPENSIVE to pay a space now that all airlines are sending their metal, for sure after 19 months they've increased the rent.

Hello, I have a question regarding Qantas A380 being sent to the US for long term storage. Why does Qantas store that far those A380 whilst I guess there is plenty of (perfectly suited dry) space much closer in Australia ? For exemple in Alice Springs where Singapore has sent 3 A380s ? Does Singapore care less about its planes ?

This was covered a few pages back and on a few other threads, but the quick explanation is that it’s close to LAX so QF maintenance crews can easily drive there to maintain them, and ASP is out of room. In addition, VCV is meant for long term storage while ASP is generally a quick storage stop. Given that these will be stored for around 3 years at least VCV made the most sense for Qantas.

Qantas A380 VH-OQD will ferry LAX-VCV (QF6007) on Monday, July 27
Qantas A380 VH-OQC will ferry LAX-VCV (QF6007) on Tuesday, July 28

That's what I've heard, although that can change.

That leaves 3 Qantas A380s that are not at VCV: VH-OQB, VH-OQG, and VH-OQI.
VH-OQB: Will remain at LAX for a while, will likely be the last Qantas A380 to go into storage.
VH-OQG & VH-OQI: Will ferry DRS-California (I don't know if it will be direct to VCV or with a stop-over at LAX, likely the latter) very soon.....

What is the closest airport to VCV that most of the U.S airlines could put a aircraft into revenue service instead of racking up non revenue cycles/hours? Seems wasteful to deadhead a aircraft when you could plop it into scheduled service & earn revenue getting the aircraft to its regular base.

Have scrapping operations been increased at VCV to accommodate the extra storage space required due to Covid crisis? The photo of the Qantas A380s parked seems to indicate older aircraft have been moved or scrapped.

While they send them sometimes to the closest feasible hub to reintroduce to service, it doesn't always make sense to do so.
Some of these aircraft when removed from a short-term storage facility aren't necessarily going right back into revenue service. Some need additional maintenance checks, they need to be re-provisioned, and the aircraft also has to be sequenced back into scheduled service. Just sending everything to LAX for example would still result in ferry/positioning flights for other aircraft or adding a bunch of extra revenue sections. They have to get a ferry flight in regardless, and going to ATL, JFK, BOS versus LAX, SEA, SLC isn't as big a deal either way.

Have scrapping operations been increased at VCV to accommodate the extra storage space required due to Covid crisis? The photo of the Qantas A380s parked seems to indicate older aircraft have been moved or scrapped.

VCV has become more 'creative' with parking in photos I've seen through Instagram, where any gaps south of that 'back row' area where Qantas A380s are stored were filled with aircraft. There was quite the shuffling I believe in order to make everything fit. There was also some fast-paced scrapping of some 744s and 'random' aircraft here and there (my friend saw an Allegiant 757 getting scrapped), so anything that could've been scrapped, probably was. Now that the (scrap) area is empty, I think they've cleared enough room for now.

There's a ton of activity around VCV right now: LATAM lease returns, Boeing 787s, few Qantas A380s, all inbound. And LATAM will keep coming through August. So the scrapping may not be over yet. I have no clue where they'll store all of the A321s that flew in (right now they're parked near the Boeing hangar but that is 100% not a permanent solution), but VCV always finds a way....

What is the closest airport to VCV that most of the U.S airlines could put a aircraft into revenue service instead of racking up non revenue cycles/hours? Seems wasteful to deadhead a aircraft when you could plop it into scheduled service & earn revenue getting the aircraft to its regular base.

Not sure about all the other carriers but I can give some insight on WN.

Most of the aircraft that WN parked were due expensive heavy checks soon. So the ones you see exiting to PAE are headed to ATS for their C/D checks. The rest are going to major WN maintenance bases (seems most if not all to PHX). There they will have more basic checks done (7 day/30 day checks) and any deferred MEL items fixed before returning to service.
