Thank you, yeah it is. However, I've heard that in other storage areas (such as MCI), the amount of Delta aircraft there has gone way down so I think overall it's a positive. I also think that the aircraft that were sent to VCV (instead of a hub location, for example United with IAD/IAH) signified that these aircraft were anticipated to be stored for a longer duration of time. Just my 2 cents there though.

In other news: It looks like a UPS 747 flight on the HNL-SBD leg may become common (although it could just be 2 and that's it, simply too early to tell). As a UPS 747-8F filed HNL-SBD 8:21PM - 4:34AM as 5X9687, the same flight number used last night by 744F N578UP. I believe this is the first ever visit of a UPS 747-8F to SBD, but correct me if I am wrong. Any additional info about these flights: what they are carrying, why they are happening, if they are a new service, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

This is a standard flight, when I was still working at ONT Tower I had this flight arrive every week around the same time that FDX802 would come in from HNL. However, both flights were originally MD-11's and then FDX switched to a B77L. Looks like UPS decided to upgauge but again UPS9867 is not a special flight, it seems they just decided to send it to SBD. It could be a ramp space issue at ONT. This past December, before I left, we had 3 UPS B748 arrivals but had to hold 2 of them out of the ramp until space opened up.

It didn't have a reg allocated initially but prior to leaving RNT for VCV it got one and the last 2 letters are on the nosewheel doors, but not yet painted on the main fuselage. Wondering if you can read them off from a ground location?

Firstly, this shot is not 'current,' the date displayed on the image (08-03-20) is March 8, 2020 (if it was August there would be MANY more 737MAXs), and so I am not sure if this aircraft was moved from this location or not, but one thing is for sure: a SpiceJet 737MAX is not in that location anymore. There is one a near that area, but not parked exactly as pictured. As for whether I can get it from a ground location, that entire 'group' of 737MAXs is basically surrounded by either a double fence (making photos meaningless even if you shot through the first fence), or surrounded by large buildings; meaning I wouldn't be able to get a shot even if it was parked exactly there (sorry for the long road to the final answer lol, wanted to give some background info). As for the possibility of being able to shoot that SpiceJet 737MAX that I said was 'near' this location, that also would not be possible due to the how closely they parked the MAXs together (it's in the middle of a group, so some other 737MAX will cover it up), along with the 2 previously mentioned reasons.

Oh ok, I worked there for 3 and a half years so I'm pretty familiar with it. I'd have to assume they are in either of those 2 spots, there are usually no aircraft with live ordinance parked there and the T38's are parked in between those two areas. Now if it is parked on the south ramp, over by the large hangar, that could be the case but usually it's just B52, B2 and B1's over there. That's also where YAL-1A used to be at.

The remaining Sky Lease 747 at SBD seems to be airborne for... someplace.

Here's a quick overview of SBD today (August 9, 2020):
1. Global SuperTanker 944 (747-400F N744ST) is still parked near the fire fighting ramp, and has both upper deck doors open (probably for cooling the cabin), as well as stairs attached, ready to go if there's a flare up with the Apple Fire (although based on the amount of firetrucks I passed (at least 10) on the way home (which is west of SBD), I think that it won't be long before 944 leaves.
2. GECAS 777-300ER N557CC is in a hangar somewhere (likely AeroPro) getting worked on, you can't see it.
3. Ex Qantas 747-400ER VH-OEF (former OneWorld Livery) is now outside the hangar, without tiles or engines. It seems that the constant rumors that were swirling around this jet (GE testbed, freighter conversion, Middle Eastern Prince bought it, etc) can now finally be put to rest almost 6 months after her final flight there.
4. Besides that, not much to report. Much of the same jets I saw stored there today were still there back in February this year when I last visited. It doesn't look like there's too much activity going on, although I saw a row of Delta 757s that are probably going to fly out in a week or two from now. Just seems like they're letting the planes sit and rot away....

Looks like they're running some cargo on the SBD-MGA leg. I would love to see it, but virtual my virtual senior year starts today and I already got arrival so I can't make it. I don't know if there'll be many spotters out there, as almost everybody got either the arrival or the departure.....
