CS-TEG name

Mon May 11, 2020 8:57 pm

I flew CS-TEG roughly 1989, and marked the name as “Viana do Castillo.”

All photos and internet references are later, with a different name. Does anyone have confirmation of use of the Viana name?

Thanks!

Hi,

CS-TEG was a TAP Air Portugal's L-1011 named "Eça de Queiroz". Probably the airplane reg you flew was CS-TES, a Boeing 737-200, named Viana do Castelo.

It was JFK-LIS-JFK, and a L1011...so most definitely not a 737!

There was never a L-1011 named "Viana do Castelo". L-1011s were named after notable portuguese people, not cities. CS-TEG was always "Eça de Queiroz" with TAP Air Portugal.

That L-1011 was the first aircraft I worked on as a crew member... some years later, with a different airline and a different reg number: CS-TMP.

That IS a very cool coin! I always liked that TAP color scheme. I got to see three of the TriStars (B, C, D) on the pre-delivery pad at Palmdale on 27 Feb 1983. Saw the others in due course at JFK, LHR, and FRA, plus lots more of the fleet over the years...even the A340 at Macau in 1996.

16 April 2019 Wings and horizontal stabilizer clipped: being prepared to be sunk in the Gulf of Aqaba
26 August 2019 Sunk near Aqaba, in the Red Sea; to become an artificial reef; wings re-attached

Had no idea!

interesting I was talking to someone elsewhere about that very aircraft just a few days ago. As CS-TMP operating in it's final flying role, it was the last Tristar I ever saw leaving terra firma. I see it's now no longer technically on 'terra firma' !
