Philippine Airlines nonstop Manila - Miami

Tue May 19, 2020 8:35 am

Philippine Airlines is en route to Miami from Manila with a 777-300ER. The flight is operating as a repatriation flight.

The flight is over 9,300 miles; making it one of the world’s longest flights. Will be the longest flight ever for PAL, as well as for MIA (beating China Airlines TPE-MIA) and one of the longest ever for the 77W.

I imagine this is bringing Filipino cruise workers back to the Philippines.

I imagine this would be the Filipino cruise ships' crews returning home.

Probably lightly loaded on the way to MIA...if it took them ~16 hours to get there, a full flight back to MNL would be brutal unless they stop somewhere along the way.

HNL seems like a practical midway point westbound.....

Wonder if the pax would be let off the plane upon landing in HNL? Cruise ships are dotting Manila Bay waiting to get clearance from quarantine officials to disembark their crews. :ill:

I'm guessing LAX is the stopover on the way back because of the flight number.

Cool! Maybe this will pave the way for future PAL service to Miami! (One can still dream, right?)

I saw a PAL 777-3ER taking off from JFK this evening. It’s show non stop to MNL. Is this a regular flight?

JFK-MNL is a normal route for PAL. Been operated by their A359s as PR127.

Since early May, the B77Ws are operating the route as PR5127. Perhaps cargo only?

Of all the times to be working from home, I may have gotten to see it on short final to Runway 9 from my job. :( Oh well. OTOH, it arrived at 16:24, my work day ends at 16:00 and I generally don't hang around given I have a 36 mile one-way drive home (central Broward County).

Repatriation flights mostly.

I guess the "arrangement" for the "one-off" was it cannot pick onward pax from LAX to MNL :?: But there must be a few FL based pax who took advantage of that "once-in-a-blue-moon" chance to fly direct to Manila without changing planes. :)

Looks like they decided to detour to Guam on the way from LAX-MNL. Fuel or medical? 77W should be able to do LAX-MNL

LAX-MNL took us 15 hours on a 77W last February. Could be anything especially with a full load...makes me wonder how they're managing the social distancing requirement. :? Which led me to think about the HNL stopover in the first place. Would've been less taxing on the pax to fly a couple of ~10-hour legs with enough rest in between. The flight might've had to change crews at LAX though...and am not sure about the quarantine restrictions at HNL. :tired:

:crowded: A lot of OFWs awaiting repatriation flights so PR is switching from their 'oldest' 77W to the 'youngest' (no tech stop @ GUM) :?: Good that the former is still getting plenty of rotations and earning its keep...must be nearing its next heavy check. :old: Based on the eastbound travel time, crews only (double?)...and the flight number, likely stop on the westbound may again be LAX - given it's PR's main NA 77W crew station.
