PIA first ever nonstop US flight with passengers

Sun May 31, 2020 2:33 pm

Today, operating from ISB-EWR, PIA is flying a 777-200LR. This is the first ever nonstop flight with passengers from Pakistan to the US. For a few weeks now they have been operating repatriation flights from EWR-XXX-LHE. Do you think this foreshadows what PIA could possibly be planning for their future in the US?

They must have gotten special US DHS approval for the repatriation flight. When PK served JFK they had to stop in MAN to redo security screening (west-bound only) due to the Pakistan airports not meeting US DHS security requirements.

I believe PIA was approved earlier this year to operate nonstop ISB-NYC. I would love to see them schedule ISB-EWR in the future!!!

They also used to run ORD-BCN-ISB

One way J was about $800, craddle type seat, and older inseat IFE, but the food and service was outstanding.

That's typical with PIA-- good (though variable) service, excellent food, mediocre to downright terrible everything else.

Looks like its 45 minutes away from arrival, one hour late. Almost over Burlington Vermont

Would love to see PIA operating to the US, the demand is certainly there. I flew them NRT-PEK last fall and was impressed by the service and all despite the rather old (but still comfortable) 777.

Yikes, have they been given a waiver or did they take meaningful steps to improve security?

To where in the U.S., please, at fares that would support services 3-4x weekly year-round?

NYC area has roughly 40,000 Pakistanis living in the area. It's the largest population from that country in the US. You tell me if that's enough to support flights?

40k isn’t brought your have to connect passengers from all over America to make it work.

Profitably? Not necessarily. PIA will be going up against the ME3 + TK, which have far superior products on board. Unless you HAVE to be in ISB on a tight schedule, why would you take PIA and then have to connect in ISB to KHI etc? Its just as fast to go via DXB and a billion times more comfortable.

That said, PIA hasn't really been in the business of profits ever. So like its sister Air India, they probably will launch the flights anyway.

This is the answer. Since half or more won’t even originate you have to connect somewhere. So you can connect at JFK/EWR or DBX or IST. No real difference.
