Kalitta 737 off runway in ROC

Fri Jun 05, 2020 2:21 pm

Looks like it's Kalitta Charters II N733CK operating ROC-BDL.

Both runways currently closed.

For unknown reasons the plane left the tarmac and went onto the grass. The flight was for DHL Cargo.

Apparently the major impact was that they had to close both runways to get the plane out of the grass which disrupted other flights.

Nope. OP didn’t provide a link and I don’t have time to look up registrations at the moment. ;)

N733CK is a 27-year old 737-400F. Looks like it was flying CVG-ROC: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/airc ... k#24a27e00

Link to article in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, with photo of the jet off-runway:

View on ROC webcam. Jet appears to be still off-runway as of around noon.

Runway 10-28 (6,400') now open, so most operations should continue if wind conditions are suitable. I've seen a FedEx 767-300 approach to land on that runway, I don't know if they could take off.

FWIW, the aircraft HAD landed and unloaded the part of its load from CVG that was getting off in ROC, and it was on its takeoff roll on its flight to BDL, where it unloads the balance of stuff and typically rests until making the reverse trek BDL-ROC-CVG at night. Form the ROC web cam, it looks like it's currently on the cargo ramp.

Well that explains why it wasn’t sitting across the ramp this morning

What did they remove to get another 900 feet out of 10/28?

Nothing got removed, a few roadways became tunnels on the 28 side to make more room for the runway safety area and it looks like a 600' addition which is a completely displaced threshold.

https://www.conteches.com/knowledge-cen ... -extension

On the other side, looks like another 300' displaced threshold got added in addition to an EMAS because of the proximity to the airport boundary.
