WHAT IS THIS REPORT?
This compares departures for sale THIS WEEK for the stated period versus what was for sale LAST WEEK...prior year departures are now shown in brackets e.g. [0].

HOW DO I READ IT?

XXX Departure IATA code, YYY Arrival IATA code, Month, Average Departures/Day over the month for sale as of last week, Average Departures/Day over the month for sale as of this week, in brackets is the number of Average Departures/Day over the month that were scheduled one year earlier. So, it means that the listed airline changed the frequency between the two airports to add from 4 to 5 roundtrips in December and January. It also means that there were 4 roundtrips the prior year in each month. No other months were changed. I average two directions.

WHAT ABOUT CARRIERS THAT DON'T PUBLISH A SCHEDULE 9 MONTHS IN ADVANCE?
NEW CHANGE-Sometimes airlines do not load their schedules for the entire 330 day standard sales window. Southwest and many LCCs load their schedules for as little as 5 months into the future. When these flight are extended into a new sales month, it becomes a "schedule change". Previously, I have manually deleted these in many cases and replaced them with a Year-Over-Year compare. Effective immediately, this will now change. When a flight is loaded from 0 departures X departures, where X was the same the prior year, the record will not be shown. For example, if Delta loaded ATL-EGE MAR 0>1(1), it would not be shown because this additional flight does not represent a real year-over-year addition. Similarly, if B6 extended their schedule a record like this ATL-BOS JUL 0>4(4) would not be shown. It will be shown if the flight frequency changed from the prior year. So B6 ATL-BOS JUL 0>3(4) would be shown. If a partial month was loaded in a core schedule that became a full schedule month, those changes may be shown under this logic. For example, WN BNA-SEA 0.3>2(2). Because only a fraction of the month was previously loaded for sale, these changes will not be filtered out. I may, however, manually remove them to declutter.

HOW ARE THE DAILY DEPARTURES CALCULATED?
This report uses total operations for the month listed, divided over the days in the month. The following criteria are used to show a change: 1) The change must be at least 6 roundtrips per month with no exceptions, 2) changes of at least 6/week are always shown, 3) routes that are added or dropped are shown subject to the change minimum, and 4) in all other cases routes must change by 20% to be shown. For example, if a route changed from 21/week to 18/week it would not be shown because the change is -14.3%. This is done to filter minor changes that occur in large numbers.

WHAT ARE THE FRACTIONAL FLIGHTS?
Flights that do not operate every day of the month create fractional service. If the route has more than 2 daily flights, departures are rounded, but in cases of less than 2 departures per day a fraction is shown. For example, if a flight operates 4 times in April it will show 4/30=0.133=0.1. Also , a flight that only operates once per week may vary between 0.1 and 0.2 because a weekday may repeat either 4 or 5 times depending on the month.

This report only shows the marketing code. It is too complicated to show all the operators.

THE FREQUENCIES MAY HAVE CHANGED AS YOU SHOW, BUT THE SEATS DIDNT CHANGE BECAUSE OF EQUIPMENT SWAPS
Seats are not shown. That is a natural weakness of a frequency based report, but it provides something to discuss below.

THIS LOOKS LIKE AN ERROR?
The carriers file the schedules. They do make mistakes. Most of the mistakes I have seen are either related to code shares not being marked as "duplicates" or carriers filing flights with invalid data such as equipment codes that are not standard or overlapping schedule periods that see the same flight number in two places at once. These cause flights to not appear.

Good morning enilria. This is quite the interesting load of updates.
Seems like AA's adds to PHL-BOS/ORD are directly related to F9 entrance into those markets.
There is a lot of capacity been added by NK/F9 to basically the same markets. It would be interesting to see what happens.

Just picking a couple of examples.
EWR-MYR saw NK going to 3x daily to counter F9 going to 3x weekly in that market? Really? what kind of demand could there be for that route in July.
PHL-MCO sees F9 going to 5x and then 6 daily this winter and NK upping to 4x daily. Again, that's pretty crazy in this demand environment.

Also a lot of increases from NK at EWR. Looks like someone wants to be noticed. I can't see this NK/F9 battle ending up well.

AS looks to be bringing some focus back to PDX.

Some of the WN adds definitely reveal where WN sees summer growth. The DAL and BNA increases are more capacity than PNS saw last year! Granted WN is still down overall because other weekend routes from PNS to AUS/MDW/MCI/STL are cancelled.

Summer demand, as is the case for lots of coastal destinations in the east. The entry shows 2 flights last year.

Regarding PHL, I think F9 made the adds because it thinks AA is weak. And AA added those flights to give a warning to F9. I doubt these schedules will actually get run. There probably will be quite a few moves by ULCC to challenge legacies in their hubs. It'd be interesting to see how legacies react. Neither UA/DL has reacted to NK doubling their EWR-ATL flights.

As for EWR-MYR, there simply isn't that much demand there right now. Or else, UA would not have cut all their flights for July.

It seems NK is making a gambit to gain more EWR time slots.

It’s not actually a second DTW-ICN per se as it’s really a DTW-ICN-PVG flight (notice that DTW-PVG is axed). They are using ICN as a technical stop for the PVG flight for a crew change to avoid having the crew layover in China. They are not selling seats for the local DTW-ICN on that flight. Same goes for the second SEA-ICN (and the cancellation of SEA-PVG).

Good to see that they are planning on some Pacific increases in July (in line with what Bastian said earlier this week about TPAC being the most promising of international right now). DTW-HND, ATL-ICN and LAX-SYD are showing some signs of life in July after being shelved for the last two months..

PHL/TTN-Florida are some of the most successful group of routes for F9... 6x a day good? No idea. But the demand is there

Agree with the post above - the ULCCs are challenging the legacies and this is the perfect time to pounce. They don’t actually have to run all the frequencies if they don’t sell, but I’m sure it has the legacies sweating a little

It is interesting that the recently approved Delta station drops (from the CARES exemption) didn’t make this week’s schedule change, especially since press releases were already made in the affected markets about the service suspensions.

I think you’re misreading the file. Up until this week, AA was still selling a July schedule that was effectively last years schedule. They’re now bring the schedule in line with demand (or their perception of demand), however compared with June they are adding flights. However
, Enilria’s analysis isn’t comparing June against July.

UA is running a more robust domestic schedule at IAD than I expected. Especially the shorter ranged stuff. Quite an interesting move since I had expected IAD to be the one station they bring back more slowly due to lack of competitive pressure there. They must be doing it because IAD is more profitable than their other coastal hubs.

AA is still running the most flights out of the US3 and is still growing quite a bit comparing June to July. The articles about AA adding flights was really about June vs July and the reductions are a lot less than if you compare where the June schedule was overlayed.

The inter-island quarantine in Hawai'i is being lifted 6/15, so that explains the 9X flight changes. Nothing yet for WN inter-island, probably next week.

I think youre still missing the point. The announcement that got all the press is still accurate. The flight reductions are from a near 100% scehdule.

If DL is not selling seats for DTW-ICN on the second flight, why is it being listed as DTW-ICN instead of PVG? Even if it is a technical stop, shouldn't it be listed as DTW-PVG since the tickets are being sold for that route?

It’s not actually a second DTW-ICN per se as it’s really a DTW-ICN-PVG flight (notice that DTW-PVG is axed). They are using ICN as a technical stop for the PVG flight for a crew change to avoid having the crew layover in China. They are not selling seats for the local DTW-ICN on that flight. Same goes for the second SEA-ICN (and the cancellation of SEA-PVG).

Good to see that they are planning on some Pacific increases in July (in line with what Bastian said earlier this week about TPAC being the most promising of international right now). DTW-HND, ATL-ICN and LAX-SYD are showing some signs of life in July after being shelved for the last two months..


So here is a question. Why would Delta not sell space on that second SEA/DTW-ICN flights ?
the truth does matter, guys. too bad it's often quite subjective. the truth is beyond the mere facts and figures. it's beyond good and bad, right and wrong...

AVL still showing on the NK route map but isn't bookable for any flights. GSO bookable for flights beginning in late November. But as I said on this thread last week, I doubt NK will be back in AVL.

80% of Idaho’s inbound growth is from California. Most has been from the LA/OC Area. With telecommuting here to stay, the Boise Area is expecting continued growth. I’m guessing an increased share of that will be from the Bay Area.

Starting to see some anecdotal stuff out of the regionals, as well, with Late August/September schedule bids coming out.
Just from what I have read, Expressjet is getting crushed. I can’t see UA operating EX and Commutair both for much longer. EX is the bigger company, with more infrastructure. Republic seems to be the least affected by downgrades, (Single type) though they still have a lot of airplanes parked.

I have been looking for signs as to what the big three is planning for the regionals, but there just isn’t much out there. At this point, I think it would be a good guess that Oct 1st is going to be brutal.

Much lower Per Passenger cost for connecting traffic than EWR.

DTW-PVG is currently prohibited by the Chinese government until further notice.

There is significant demand to/from China (which is usually tech industry, VFR or students anyway). So demand is not greatly affected. But literally zero flights USA-China nonstop. There is considerable pent up demand. Yields appear to be 300% of normal. China prohibits USA-China nonstops by US carriers. US prohibits China-USA nonstops by Chinese carriers. That's where we are right now.

The July cuts are from AA's standard placeholder schedule, it's quite a few more flights then we're flown in June, but significant cuts from pre-covid schedules.

AA is still suspending a lot out of JFK. I am surprised by the suspension of JFK-DFW and JFK-ORD.

I hope AA starts to pick up steam again in JFK. AA has a great terminal and gateway for NY fliers.

I figured as much. I flew BNA-DFW-BNA this week. Saw some signs of life, but normal seems a long way off.

DL is adding one SBN ATL flight back in in July. UA is actually operating 3 SBN ORD flights on select days in July.

This is from APC on June 1. Not sure if it means the August or September schedule bid:

Since when did AS fly the SBA-STS route???

I'm sure all these flights are extremely fluid routes and frequencies. I'm sure many of these routes will show themselves in August or September.

Looks like this will be a tag to PDX, although SBA-STS-SBA isn't bookable on its own, which there probably is demand for...the non-stop is still showing 20 minutes later, so I'm guessing it didn't fully load correctly or they're still playing with the schedule.

I will be curious to see how far out in the schedule these stations get dropped for. As in, will it just be no flights in July on the schedule, or July to September? Or will it be like YOW where all flights are zeroed out through the winter? Obviously going forward anything could change, but I think the initial end date selected could provide some clues as to whether the drop is intended to be temporary or permanent.

Actually compared to June they are running more flights. You can’t really compare the schedule of July 2019 to July 2020. You have to compare June 2020 to July 2020. DFW is supposed to have about 560 flights compared to the 400 or so now. CLT also is going from 320 to 450. Examples: CID - DFW is currently 2x moving to 3x in July. DSM currently 1x to DFW moving to 3x in July. ECP-CLT current 1.8 moving to 3x July. And so forth. Atlanta will only have about 450 flights on DL so DFW will still be running ahead of them.

I don't think this is end of July schedule rejuggling. Next weekend US CDC supposed to inform public about the extension of any European travel ban, as it is said to be reviewed every 30 days. 12th June should be the next.

I think there is a good chance that the current EU Travel Ban will stay. If that becomes reality, more cuts in US-EU flights will be coming.
