Question about Sky Lease Cargo 747 (N903AR)

Sun Jul 12, 2020 4:27 am

I photographed this 747 freighter the other day, and when I looked up its history I got a bit curious. Apparently it was delivered as F-GIUB with Air France, then leased to AirBridgeCargo as VQ-BFX. So far, so good. But then it was apparently returned to Air France with a new registration F-GIUG, and remained there for only around five months before being shipped out to Sky Lease as N903AR. It's that last bit that's the issue - I can't seem to find any photos of it as F-GIUG. Did it ever actually get those marks, or even fly with Air France again, or was it just stored someplace until Sky Lease got it?

It's a bit esoteric I know, but I've seen some pretty well informed posts about Sky Lease and the rest on here so I thought there was a chance somebody would know. Thanks!

I don't know where you've looked for it but here it is. It probably remained all white since AF Cargo didn't really need it.

FWIW, she's been at SBD for a couple of days. They ran her hard during the Air Bridge contracts, so I'm assuming that she's there for a check.

Thanks! The weird thing is I did search flickr, but it didn't pull that up for some reason.

744F N904AR joined her today (July 12) from LAX.

Just a normal teenager juggling AP classes and airplanes. No biggie • Love the 747 & 777-9 • Farewell BA/KL 744s

Huh. Could be that checks are due on both, given how hard they have been running. Or could be something bad. I guess we'll have to see.

I did check PACER, and I don't see a bankruptcy filing. The only recent news about Sky Lease is the profile of that NYC heart surgeon that is also a pilot for them, and a mention in an article indicating they got more than $150K in a PPP loan.

I was working next to N903AR last friday at LAX. She came by around 11AM.

N904AR stopped by LAX several times in the past few weeks. She was involved in an incident on the night of June 26 as they were towing her into cargo ramp. Her right winglet clipped the left winglet of iAero Airways DHL N737KT a B737 BDSF parking in the next stall. N904AR departed the next day without a right winglet.

N737KT stayed for a few days

Here is N904AR Arriving back to LAX without the right winglet. She would visit LAX a few more times without the winglet
