Data from a time gone by: FAA releases calendar year 2019 enplanement data

Thu Jul 16, 2020 2:31 am

FWIW--On July 6 the FAA posted the calendar year 2019 enplanement data for US airports. The data can be found here:

https://www.faa.gov/airports/planning_c ... passenger/

Some highlights from the data:

Big movers in the FAA "Large Hub" classification were DFW (+9.01%), CLT (+8.61%), DEN (+7.11%). Biggest declines in the classification were MDW (-5.58%), BWI (-0.65%) and SFO (-0.30%).

For the "Medium Hub" classification, the biggest gains were SJU (+13.11%), BUR (11.51%), and BNA (+11.45%). The biggest drops were recorded at MKE (-3.51%), BUF (-2.53%) and OAK (-1.89%).

For the "Small Hub" category, the biggest increases were at SRQ (+42.7%), STT (+41.57%), and AVL (41.41%). The biggest decreases in enplanements were at GUM (-29.27%), LGB (-8.19%), and ACY (-7.92%).

CY 2019 enplanement data for airports not classified as "hubs" is also available.

Obviously, next year will look much, much different.

2020 data is going to be completely meaningless.

PAE was up 12727.99%

Amazing what new service will do. Good luck trying to match that percentage ever again.

FWIW this data has traditionally been reported by the FAA in June every year, even in pre-COVID times.

Why is 2020 data going to be meaningless. It's going to show where real demand is verse all the artificial demand stimulated by incentives and the like that wouldn't exist. I think the 2020 data is going to be more truthful than what we've seen in past years.
the truth does matter, guys. too bad it's often quite subjective. the truth is beyond the mere facts and figures. it's beyond good and bad, right and wrong...
