Spirit Airlines fleet status: Repaint and cabin updates

Sat Jul 18, 2020 2:45 am

Back in late 2019, we were given our first glimpse at the new interiors of Spirit Airlines. The new interiors looked to be a big step up for the airline. Big tray tables, better seats, and a new plane smell.

We know that N920NK was redone. The question is: What is the status on the interiors being redone on other planes?

Also, is NK planning to repaint all the planes that still use the 2007 livery?

It would be great to discuss more about NK and their recent fleet progress.

The Neo I flew today was brand new yet had the old interior. Also, I still see 2007 liveries.

The new interior uses the same current seats, except its a new seat cover that includes a larger tray table add on. New carpets as well.

Not quite. The new seats have an all around different ergonomic shape. The area around the passengers backside and tailbone is recessed further back. The idea being is if their butt is further aft in the seat, they will get more apparent legroom. While not perfect, they are noticeably more comfortable than spirits first generation A320 seats and the very firm seats just preceding the new ones.

Just watched a few video clips of the new seats - they look like Acro products... am I right?

The seats look quite nice, they'll probably be the new staple with LCCs in the coming years. 28 inch pitch is the new normal now.
Come, fly the prevailing winds with me

I was on a 319 DTW-PHL two weeks ago. New livery and new interior with the exception of the bulkhead panel between row 1 and the galley. The logo on it was from the pixel livery.

It's hard to get enthused about 28" seat pitch. It would be useful if they showed pricing of Big Front Seats at the flight selection page - or even in their price by day display - instead of needing to put in name/address/phone/email first. Seriously. Learn to upsell, guys.

931NK was all set up with the new interior, being brand new of course it was all matched. Tried out the seats in the back and I think the new ones are actually pretty nice.

It's been a while since I've jumpseated on Spirit but the last time I did probably 9 months ago the pilots said it had been delayed because of installation issues.

They are "pre-reclined" and I felt the new black seats gave better support than the older new seats.

Going with a new vendor now, the Airbus STC. There should be a few done by the end of the year but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I heard the antenna's from Thales were basically VMC only because when the plane would fly through visible moisture the antenna would take in moisture and freeze and as a result connectivity would fail. My understanding is the issue has since been fixed but highly doubt they're going to be in a hurry to spend much capital right now. What a shame because it's the perfect time to paint planes and install seats and wifi.

I flew the new interior on N929NK a few weeks ago, the interior felt like a great overall update (talking on LCC standards)
I did also make a video on it, back in May.

I believe all the pixel scheme aircraft have been repainted as of the start of 2020, correct? How many are still left in the blue tail?

I am a big fan of your videos. I fly Spirit frequently and have never had a problem. I hope this new cabin brings good light into Spirit. ULCCs are overhated.

I agree with American post above. Despite the ULLC models being over hated this should really help NK with the new seats. Factually, the new middle seat is 1 inch wider than others. Before the Covid 19 health issue, NK had planned to finish all painting with the yellow and were also targeting to finish Wi Fi .. Sadly, i don't think they plan to add chargers to each seat. The flight attendants have all been through Spirit Signature Service and this is noteworthy on most flights. The video ( above ) is on the NEO which is extremely quiet on take off and landings especially. The cabin updates should be noticeable with yellow highlights through the cabin ( seat numbers ) , new updated service carts accented in yellow ( actually looks pretty smart ! ) and the larger tray tables with a sleek , trim and more open seat back area. Give it a try ...

Earlier in 2020, it was last reported as down to N627NK-N640NK - 14 aircraft. Some may have been "yellowed".

Great trip report!

One thing i fugured out recently is to solve the hardness of the seat i take along my car seat memory foam pad that i got at costco and use that on the plane it works wonders for me.

Last I knew, 14 A320ceo aircraft, registrations N627NK through N640NK; I do not believe any repaints have occurred during the pandemic.

All of these A319s are owned by Spirit and are not leased.

Skyliner-Aviation.de spends a lot of time and effort into keeping their website up to date, be nice if you quoted them as a source when copy and pasting their information. Even if they're wrong on this occasion with the 'return to lessor'

Where and when was the alleged United purchase transaction of A319s from Spirit announced? Google doesn't find it.
