So this in turn (obviously) means that charters for the Blue Jays and their opponents will be going in/out of BUF instead of YYZ.

JFK is right next to Citi Field. When teams are leaving after a night game at Citi Field, they almost always depart from JFK. Braves arrived into EWR for the series, due to hotel location I would presume. Then, the aircraft ferried over to JFK from EWR

Citifield is 2.9 miles driving from LGA and 11.1 miles from JFK. I know they are both right by the stadium but Citi is significantly closer. That being said I know a lot of the baseball teams go out of JFK.. I've actually seen charters of 757-200 for MLB at LGA but more often I believe they are over at JFK. Traffic on that 11 miles at 11 or 12 PM after games is usually not too bad.

I wonder how specific the charter requests are from each team and whether or not they specify the city or the airport. You see teams use BED for games in Boston and MKC for Kansas City.

I think you got that one mixed up, Citi field is right next to LGA and is part of the approach on the Expressway visual approach into 31. JFK is in comparison on the other side of Queens.

That was not an MLB flight. Swift/iAero was flying teams in and out of YYZ all day for the NHL bubble, so I believe that flight is connected. The Blue Jays fly Air Canada. This is their flight leaving TB for DC for their upcoming series.

Maybe this is a dumb question but how can Air Canada legally fly a domestic US flight? Do cabotage rules not apply to charter flights?

The two airports specifically called for in the MLB 2020 Operating Protocol are that teams are to use MKC for Kansas City and PTK for Detroit whenever possible.

I wonder if we'll be able to track their bus trip back to Miami?

From what I've seen, MKC is the preferred choice when playing the Royals. It's less than 2 miles from the field to the Power and Light District, versus a good 30 minute bus ride from MCI. Since the runway at MKC can easily handle a narrowbody anywhere in the US, it's not an issue for teams to go there.

Just to clear this up a little bit... Kauffman Stadium (where the Royals play) is not in the Power & Light District, it's on I-70, which is about 10 miles from MKC. The teams go to their hotel on the Country Club Plaza first, which is about halfway between MKC and the stadium. You are correct that it would be a 30 minute bus ride from MCI though.
