Anyone care to guess where it will go from Bangor today?? It has been a while since it paid a visit to the lower 48.... It usually goes on to Caribbean or S. America from here..

This is so exciting for me and my kids - we live about two hours south, in Portland, Maine. We can't make it there today but are planning to drive up tomorrow, but I'm afraid it might be gone. I called the airport to find out if there's an ETD, but no luck. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to determine when it will leave, or how long it will stay? Thank you! (Would also love to figure out why it's there...)

So it appears to be picking up some type of load at Bangor and heading off to Tel Aviv with two tech stops on the way. That's a lot of lobsters LOL !

As a pilot for 45 years and airlines for 30 I have never heard of a tech stop. We have fuel stops and maintenance stops. Sometimes logistical stops, diverts and emergencies... is this new, unique to the 225 it has a tech which I believe it’s a technical which means something technical needs to be done to the plane like maintenance . Interesting term. Is it fad lingo used by non pilots? Then again, I could just be old.....which is usual and the language has been rewritten and I am still flying old 4 gen airliners...

Help the old airline pilot, mechanic,military, instructor on this new term....

I think it tends to be an European linguistic difference. Just a stop not for benefit of passengers. Could be fuel or any number of driving reasons. From ICAO: Technical stop. A stop most commonly used to refuel the aircraft, to make unexpected essential repairs or to respond to some emergency need to land the aircraft. Sometimes pilots and HQ employee types do not use the same words also. Pilots tend to use nautical miles. The rest of the business uses statute miles, or km outside the US. Frequent flier miles are statute miles and not nautical miles. one example. Passengers, travel agents etc use the word "tech stop" as a business term. Pilots may or may not use the same term.

It’s in the FOM, FCOM, and even has its own definition in the pilot contract at an airline with which I am familiar. There’s also a divert/tech stop guide in the FCOM. The definition for it in the pilot contract is a landing at an airport planned by dispatch the day of operations for refueling operations.

Yes, I live more or less under one of the northern flight paths into IAH and when the 225 comes over at a fairly low altitude it's an amazing thing to watch/hear.

With how much fuel they load they are possibly pre-loading it so it doesn't take so long on the day of flight.

Good point. Kinda how the pilots, dispatchers, etc. use ICAO airport codes, while at the ticket counter we use IATA.

I don't think they were ever going to open the nose up ? It was a fast turnaround ! Great crowd along at PIK today, road traffic was crazy, and I got there two hours early ! Cops on every junction and plenty of non AV geeks, families & kids etc. Just like the good old days of the Scottish International Airshow, sigh...

Agreed nice van! yes that was his nephew who help start BigJet TV they have separated for about 2 years now as he went on to be a production manager for Just Planes Videos. Jerry does all the shooting on his own.

The flight to Chateroux is not a tech stop I thought that was the question. The flight to PIK is to refuel because of military contracts/cheap fuel and political actions by the American government to bring tech stops to the city and have crew stay at a certain hotel...

Chateroux appears to have been a tech stop too... according to this article it was carrying US Army Oshkosh trucks, which are due to be fitted with Israeli made Iron Dome anti-missile technology.

Are you talking about the Trump-Turnberry resort in Ayrshire, near Prestwick ? I thought there was a current ban on US service personnel staying there (and anywhere else in the area) owing to Covid-19 control ? USAF aircraft have been overflying the area instead with minimal (if any) refuelling stops.

If I had to guess, Prestwick was for fuel and Chateroux was a crew change...

I said it is a tech stop for the military and they get deals on fuel. In normal times they stay at a certain hotel.
