Sky Airline Peru Applies For Miami and Fort Lauderdale

Mon Aug 10, 2020 10:07 pm

Sky Airline Peru has applied to launch flights (scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail) between Peru and Fort Lauderdale/Miami.

They intend to launch a 7x weekly service from Lima to Southern Florida (FLL/MIA) using the A320neo starting some time in the first half of 2021.

Sky Peru intends to initially utilize Airbus A320neo (new engine option) aircraft with 186 seats in an all economy class configuration and proposes to commence scheduled service between Lima, Peru’s Jorge Chávez International Airport and the South Florida region, on a nonstop basis, beginning in the first half of 2021. Sky Peru further anticipates such service will initially entail seven weekly roundtrip frequencies. Sky Peru may adjust this schedule as market conditions warrant.

Is this the Sky Airline Group’s first entrance into the United States?

So they plan to launch both at the same time? Doc isn't all that clear, and only mentions the destinations twice.

Odd.

I took the phrase "South Florida region" to imply one or the other. Maybe they'll take whichever authority they get, but I was under the impression MIA/FLL shared co-terminal status. Or maybe I'm mistaken on that.

US and Peru have an open skies agreement, so Sky Airline Peru can fly to any one once it receives formal approval. They probably have not committed to an airport yet though.

It depends on the bilateral.

For example, with the old "Bermuda II" bilateral with the UK:
IAD/BWI and JFK/EWR were co-terminals, but MIA/FLL, SFO/OAK, and LAX/ONT were not.

That explains it then. Thanks for the clarification.

And yes. This is the first time Sky is branching outside of their lil niche in Chile & Peru. Super duper tight legroom though...
