Spicejet A340-F ???

Mon Aug 17, 2020 3:48 pm

According to multiple news outlets, Spicejet is acquiring and Airbus A340 freighter,
However, as far as I am aware, there is currently no A340 p2f Conversion program in action for any variant.
Will they simply use it with no passenger seats or is there a program that can convert them?

Could this be a wet-lease from European Aviation? I know they've been "converting" A346s to full-time freight operations.

Maybe a typo and what they really meant was an A330F?

That would certainly make more sense to me.

They are likely using a HiFly A340, who has recently “converted” (aka removed seats) some A340s to cargo ops: https://simpleflying.com/hi-fly-a340-freigher/

SpiceJet is also currently wetleasing a A339 from HiFly.

Spice has leased A340-300 9H-JAI from HiFly. This aircraft has had its seats removed.

How was SpiceJet able to lease a 22 year old aircraft? Isnt there a law that prevents airlines from bringing in aircraft older than 15 years old?

Does that apply to a dry (ie "normal") lease arrangement only, or wet leases as well? If it is a Hi Fly aircraft, it will be operated by Hi Fly on behalf of SpiceJet, thus won't be getting re-registered and won't have any such laws apply to it.

The rule says that "Pressurised aircraft to be imported for scheduled operations shall not be more than 15 years in age or have completed 75% of its design economic life or 45,000 pressurisation cycles whichever is earlier."

https://www.civilaviation.gov.in/en/air ... ory-issues

Aircraft taken on wet-lease technically aren't imported into the country.
