UAL #203 Abrupt course change west of Toronto

Thu Aug 20, 2020 12:01 pm

Good morning!

Anybody know why United 203 (A319) Albany to Chicago did such a strange change of routing today?
We often see aircraft passing over our rural community however this one was an abrupt change from the usual LOL

Could be a number of things. Most likely it was a vector for ORD entrail separation. Wasn't really a route change since the a/c still went over FNT.

Looks like vector for intrail spacing. I’m guessing there was a RJ at the front of the line doing .72 that had everyone slowed behind them.

I think abrupt course change is very much an overstatement. I've been directed on a lot more aggressive changes than that. This looks like a typical vector for separation, like MSY2351 said. Very typical when there is a large number of aircraft approaching from the same direction and on the same STAR (WYNDE1 in this case) into a hub city.

HA! We (ATC) used to joke about the F100s and BA46 lack of speed when mixing in with other planes in the terminal area. If they ever reported a bird strike, we were told to ask if it was from the front or from behind.
