The airline has just revealed a stunning new livery on LX-VCF promoting the use of face masks in the fight against COVID 19.

That's awesome! And also very kind of Cargolux that they want to make sure one of their Queens doesn't get sick

Only cargo operators can afford special liveries in these days and age. But very nice anyway

Smart marketing and public service move. Likely they have transported many millions of masks and PPE.

Look at the way the ear strap is wrapped around the C of ‘Cargolux’ that’s very clever.

My guess is that it was due a paint job anyway... Thus, it's very minimal $$ to add the mask design to a repaint.

I highly doubt that they painted the B748F "just for fun"

Props to Cargolux for the classy protection of its image...

Have a great day,

How often does a plane generally get repainted?

When the paint is heavily rusted (or outdated) and needs a refresh, or everytime it changes its operator, or basically the operator would repaint the plane just for fun :duck:

Since some have asked questions about painting:

1) Do they ever paint-over-paint or do they strip the old off first? I would think the extra weight would require stripping it each time.

2) How much does the average paint job cost... say, for a 747?

3) How long does it take to paint a plane of this size?

They have done something on the tail also. It looks dark blue but I can’t make out the sign.

Is that mask painted or is it a decal/wrap?

I recall Boeing wrapping one of their 787's last summer to have the wrap certified :)

To reply to your questions:
1) They use thinner to remove the old coat.
2) It costs $200,000 US dollars to repaint a 747, and
3) It takes roughly 10 days for the whole procedure.

FYI paint doesn’t rust, neither does aluminum

But it can be faded.
Sorry for my bad English, somehow I couldn't think about the word "fade" when I was writing my previous reply

For spot repaints, it's not uncommon to simply mask off and sand the area being repainted to rough up the surface and apply the new paint on top.

I'm pretty sure some of the former CO aircraft were repainted that way following the UA merger, with only the titles changed since the livery remained.
I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.

Nice look Cargolux! Interesting note, when AirTran had the Falcons jet and the contract expired, they painted it back to regular AirTran colors. Then DL got the 717's and that aircraft got painted again. So N891AT got 2 total repaints within about 10 months.

It's well known in the meanwhile that the mask serves mostly to protect other persons near you if you belong to the dark figure, that has the virus & is infectious, but doesn't know it!

On the other side it's wrapped around the upper part of the "x", but that doesn't seem to be very safe...
This is your pilot speaking. Welcome to flight one from here to there. We'll be flying at a height of ten feet, going up to twelve and a half feet if we see anything big. My copilot today is a flask of coffee.

I hate it. Plain and simple.

Not even the Queen of the Skies can escape the mask.

Colors are bright, but this is one 748 I will NOT be getting from Geminijets or JC Wings.
