UA DC10 in 1979 movie "Love and Bullets" Which airport?

Thu Sep 24, 2020 8:55 pm

Just finished watching the 1979 movie "Love and Bullets" starring Charles Bronson. Starting at 1:27:25, there is a United DC10 landing in what is supposed to be PHX. However, the mountain range to the right of the screen does not appear to be Tempe Butte, nor any other mountain range around PHX. Is there any idea as to where else that landing would have been filmed in those days?

Later on, there are interior and curbside shots of PHX Terminal 2, so that part is accurate.

Per IMDB's list of filming locations, the movie was filmed at a variety of locations in Switzerland, a few spots in Arizona, and at the MGM lot in Culver City, CA. Could it possibly be a UA DC-10 landing in Switzerland? If not, maybe just stock footage that they grabbed. I haven't seen it.

UA did not fly to Switzerland in the 70s, and I don't believe their DC10s ever saw Europe.

Certainly not the domestic DC-10-10. The landscape in that shot of the landing DC-10 looks rather Californian to me.

I agree, definitely looks like a stinky hot day in the south west. I think it really is just stock footage, which wouldn't be listed as a filming location. The movie credits back then were far less detailed than they are these days, so no info there.

Looks an awful lot like SFO to me with Coyote Point in the background. Hard to telI for sure though because the quality isn’t very good.
