Gulfstream to close West Coast LGB completion center

Tue Oct 27, 2020 3:46 am

As part of consolidation, Gulfstream Aerospace announced it would close its primary West Coast completion and servicing center at Long Beach taking with it 700 jobs.

Gulfstream occupies 455,000 square feet - 22.5 acres and has operated at LGB since 1986 including in 2018 acquiring former Boeing property for what was planned to become an even larger facility.

Completion operations will be moved to Gulfstreams facilities in Appleton, Wisconsin and Savannah Georgia, while limited West Coast service work available at its small Van Nuys facility.

Sign of times as OEMs pursue cost savings. General Dynamics parent of Gulfstream Aerospace already back in April stated they would focus on improving Gulfstream's margins and cut 700 jobs in Georgia.

Doubt it has anything to do with LGB as an airport especially since only two years ago they purchased some former Boeing land with the intention to grow further.

Probably has everything to do with General Dynamics looking to squeeze every dollar out of Gulfstream and driving them to cut costs and consolidate during these turbulent times.

Does anyone know what they're doing to do with the old Boeing C17 plant?

C-17 plant was sold last year and rezoned for
mixed use retail and light industrial development.
