Not going to talk about how different governments have acted to save the airline and travel industry, only going to talk about my own observations. When we were at CDG in August, the airport was reasonably busy and the Air France flights were all of healthy loads.

With France's rising COVID19 cases and subsequent measures put in place to try and stem the spread, one does have to wonder if CDG will be as busy as it is currently a month or so from now?

Indeed due to COVID-19 we will see a lot of temporary figures thrown about but until maybe next Summer we will not know the real situation and also how much damage has been done to certain airports. Take DUB for instance at the moment its plummeted and the aviation industry here is close to collapse. Lets see what the story is Summer 2021. Some will bounce back and some will loose their places for a decade or more.

UK and Heathrow long term will be depending on a combination of how Brexit effects London as a financial district and how fast Tourism comes back to London.

A no deal Brexit might also lead to people avoid Heathrow as a hub to change to an EU destination.

Thanks for clarifying the OP's metric, and for offering an alternative, but I've never understood the fascination with aircraft movements. Movements can reflect small avg gauge, or caps on runway/taxiway capacity, or limited hours, as much as demand. Movements don't reflect revenue because they ignore gauge, flight distance, and avg fare.

OTH, aircraft movements makes it easier to compare airports with different proportions of cargo vs passengers. If you count payload, how many passengers equals a ton of freight?

It's fairly easy to compare passengers to freight simply on a weight basis. 1 pax + baggage = 100kg
But what about revenue? A single first-class passenger is often worth his weight in gold. Unlike most of the packages my OH orders from eBay.

So....How about {aircraft movements} x {MTOW} ?

That way we compensate both for an airport moving one 747 versus two/three A320s, or a dozen ERJ-135s.

And a fully loaded 777 gets the same rating whether it is full of passengers or cargo. Or a mix.

It still isn't perfect of course; just an idea.
Nothing to see here; move along please.
