Alaska Airlines has a hilarious new "Safety Dance" video

Mon Dec 14, 2020 6:05 pm

If laughter is the best medicine, maybe it is the best teacher, too. Alaska Airlines has a really good - and hopefully convincing - new video to promote Covid safety. With lines like “Well your friends don’t mask and why don’t they mask? Well they won’t fly this airline", and scenes of their well-thought-out "Yellow Cards", the video is both entertaining and informative.

Have a look - and put on your mask!

How would they play this onboard? Doesn't Alaska have BYOD entertainment?

Cheap and embarrassing imo.

I would prefer an airline to just be clean, mature and professional. But maybe thats just me.

It's an ad.....not something AS can/will/does show on-board.

This was fun and cool but they should have done it a few months ago? The vaccine is here and already being injected into Americans. I mean the COVID isnt going away overnight but this would have had longer impact if it was released earlier. Still like it though!

Maybe I'm a cold hearted bastard, but I found it cringey. I liked the pilot on the keyboard though.

I saw it by total accident yesterday! It was refreshing. I have flown Alaska 15 times in the last few months, and I am here to confirm that Alaska has done a heck of a job in regards to Covid, and this commercial is 100% true.

I wonder how much this 1 minute commercial cost Alaska? Anyways, I love it!!

Enforcing rules poses challenges for cabin staff and is often unpleasant for passengers. By having fun with the mask rule, this video may take the edge off a bit. I have no opinion on the artistic merits of the video, but from the standpoint of morale and marketing, it works. Face it, most passengers want to avoid unpleasantness while flying. If they haven’t had a bad experience themselves, they’ve heard about others, or have read about incidents like the family thrown off a UA flight because their 2 year old wouldn’t keep the mask on.
This video wasn’t created as a response, but it functions as one.

I wouldn't describe it as "hilarious" (perhaps setting up false expectations for the curmudgeons on here), but I did think it was cute. What's wrong with having a little fun in life?!

And totally agree that Captain Shades stole the show. Woof!

This is the era of Tik Tok and people pressing “skip ad” or muting ads that are “clean, mature, and professional” as you’ve subjectively described. People only absorb things that are unique in some way or less than 5 seconds. There is also extremely limited business travel right now and many of the people who are flying are younger leisure flyers who are using the new telework world to spend weeks in Palm Springs, Puerto Vallarta, Park City, etc. They respond better to this than something stuffy and forgettable.

Will they be rejected if they’re men flying without hats? (That song is stuck in my head now.)

"Book now. Mask up. Let's go." is a theme they're trying to hook some things onto. Here's another variation on the theme that is more "mature", for more "mature" people.

These days we need something that is uplifting and fun, this was it! Some can say it was goofy or stupid but personally I found it funny and upbeat plus am an 80's kid! I am certain that each and everyone of these Alaska Airlines employees had a great time performing in this video and why not!
