BDA was always CLT's weakest Caribbean route, and it was never flown more than once or twice weekly in peak season, even in good economic times. I assume they are attempting to optimize connections?

Interesting B6 followed them in...and then AA apparently retaliated.

Why would JL split a single daily frequency across both airports? Its almost like they are saying that HND doesn't work all of the time, just some of the time.

This theory seems to be growing in popularity. It does seem odd that B6 announced MIA on Thursday and by Friday AA had a bunch of new FLL flights (BOS, JFK, LAX & PAP) that are also flown by B6 that suddenly popped up on the reservation systems. If it's retaliation, it was super-quick, but AA probably anticipated it. Then again, it's a new environment, anything is possible.
I do think in this exchange it is great to have B6 flying MIA-LAX with Mint, a product long overdue from Miami and AA back on FLL-PAP, a p2p international route that needs no feed whatsoever to be successful. FLL-PAP probably as good a VFR international route as any flown from the US. AA never should have dropped it, in their frenzy to consolidate around hubs a few years ago.

The theory makes zero sense. They’re not codesharing on those routes. How does it help B6 if passengers that might have otherwise flown them from Fort Lauderdale to Port-au-Prince are now flying on AA, when there is no revenue to them from the AA flight? How does it help AA if passengers that might have otherwise flown them from Miami to Los Angeles are now flying on B6 with no revenue going to them on the B6 flight?

Interesting. Long ago, back in the late '80s and early '90s, I think this was served by AA as a tag on DFW-CLT and then DFW-GSO.

I agree. I think the most obvious explanation for that shift is that without business travel and with extremely reduced international travel, the passenger profile at MIA is not very different than the passenger profile at FLL. So with legacies flying leisure passengers into either airport anyway, why not beef up in FLL? With MIA becoming more leisure oriented, why not expand there if you're B6/WN?

You are right, probably no collusion, that doesnt make sense, unless this is just the beginning of massive adjustments, but these adds are likely a result of the new partnership. AA can now utilize B6 feed on FLL-PAP, and B6 can use AA feed on both ends of LAX-MIA.
If they keep poaching each others feed the partnership might not last long.

One one hand there is going to be major cabin fever by then, international options are a bit limited and/or some just not wanting to leave the country now, and cruises aren’t going to be happening.
More importantly to compensate for capacity lost due to middle seat blocking so in many cases its still less capacity or neutral depending on aircraft gauge size.

Yep, the most under discussed part of JetBlue announcement was that EWR added another 10 flights and they are going into major legacy hubs. It's hard to believe, but JetBlue is getting more bookings out of EWR than JFK to a lot of cities that they both fly to. I doubt they will call EWR a focus city since it's all part of the NYC strategy.
Expect plenty more EWR route announcements. I'd expect any large market that have large WN or non-fortress hub AA presence on the other end to be added + some other ones. That means BNA/MSY/ORD/DEN are probably next along with some summer leisure destinations. And when they do enter new domestic cities in the middle of the country (particular ones with large WN/AA presence), I would expect EWR will be in the first round of add. Quite a change from back in the days when any within perimeter add would just start off with BOS and maybe FLL.
At this point, I think JetBlue would be willing to trade assets at JFK for more gates at EWR when the new terminal 1 open.

I never understood why AA never ran it since they could carry connections through to Mexico and the west instead of DFW. Glad to see it. Now, of course we don't know that it will actually run since we're not going to see many Canadians head to the US until the quarantine rules change here in Canada. Anyways, Happy Ho Ho Ho to everyone.

All kinds of cool YOY increases for DTW. Will this finally put the DTW and DL debate to rest?I suspect it's just a product of demand being in Florida/Arizona while DL's seat blocking makes these actually year over year reductions still in available seats.
I guess it's just nice to see new routes and increases for the first time in a while across the country more generally, especially year over year.

All types of cool new UA ads to park/recreational towns: I'm not sure which of these are new and which are just extensions of the operating season or shown as resuming relative to 2020 cuts. Any good way to pull old UA (or really any carrier) schedules to tell for sure? Other than maybe T100 data?
