Not really. It goes SIN-CPH-FCO, stays overnight at FCO, and then returns FCO-CPH-SIN

Surely lease rtn, must be too young for scrapping….
Or perhaps onward conversion stock..?

Widerøe keeps adding capacity at BGO. AES and MOL increases from 5x and 3x daily to 6x and 4x daily after the summer holiday. BGO-SVG also increases from today's 6x daily to 9x daily. It is not that many years ago Widerøe only flew this a few times daily

It also looks like they have to get more capacity for these flight, as all the AES and MOL flights I've checked in September are showing wetlease ATR-72 from Norra

I imagine the flights are from other bases to HEL..Maybe next year they will consider a HEL base..I mean they're opening a base in ARN, how much more expensive could it be to expand in HEL? The only major airports in the Nordics missing are OSL where FR hasn't expanded that much and keeps majority of flights to TRF and curiously enough to KEF where all other LCCs are flying (U2,HV, EW, VY, W6) except FR..Maybe they will reconsider now with their "gamechanger" planes?

It seems AY has extended HEL–ORD route to a year-round service as direct flights are bookable throughout the W21/22 season. All flights are operated by A350.

Weekly frequencies as follows:
2 weekly from 1 Nov to 28 Dec 2021
3 weekly as of 31 Dec 2021
5 weekly as of 28 Feb 2021

I saw them flying yesterday and today. It was really cool as they are flying lower than most other traffic. Their livery looks very nice, modern and clean.

Norwegian is flying now with two B737 based in Spain after more than 15 months, one in ALC and one in AGP.

Loads seem good. Do you see them reopening some more bases in Spain i.e. BCN? Do you see Norwegian with a maximum fleet in the near future or will they "grow" soon?

No plans returning with a BCN base

They plan to have active 50 aircraft in the fleet later this year, increasing to 70 next summer

- KL1325 AMS 14.30 - AES 16.30 E175 PH-EXW

https://www.flightradar24.com/KLM41H/2836e9a0

and also to Oslo Torp:

- KL127 AMS 12.25 - TRF 14.00 E175 PH-EXU

The airline has decided not to re-open AMS-Vaxjo for the time being.
The only European route to remain closed.

In Iceland, the Govt subsidises a triangle route about 5x per week to connect Vopnafjördur and Þórshöfn to Akureyri, the main urban area in the north of Iceland. Generally, Beech King Air 9-seater and Jetstream 32 19-seater aircraft are flown. About 10 years ago, Vopnafjördur and Þórshöfn also had bus service but those days are long gone

Why is air service used to connect these villages when roads exist, particularly in summer ?
Do these air routes have any kind of future or are they on borrowed time ?

A somewhat interesting story in the media today - Finnair would have wanted to fly long-haul from unnamed European city/cities next winter season to get some cash flow going and employ around 400 flight crew who have been laid off during the pandemic. In order to make these flights viable it would have required some temporary flexibility in the existing collective agreements. Everything was agreed upon with the pilots but the board of the Transport Workers' Union (AKT) representing the cabin crew members disagreed with some details and rejected the motion. This despite the fact that the cabin crew division itself was in favor of accepting.

However AY still has the option of leasing crew from elsewhere.

What would make those long-haul flights viable or more interesting in terms of revenue compared to what they could potentially do in trying to regain capacity at their home hub in HEL?

Finland has had quite strict entry rules so I guess it’s similar to Aer Lingus trying to start flights from MAN. They see an opportunity to operate flights which will bring in more cash possibly from somewhere more open than Finland.

Convenience, saving time. It is a 2h30 drive versus at most 1h15 flight at the second destination, and at airports of these sizes there is not a lot of hassle getting through security, if any at all at the small destinations. They probably also transport some more time critical goods and/or mail as well. I flew PSO routes like these in Sweden, where a 1h20 total travel time replaced a 4h drive. People showed up often 10-15 minutes before departure time, a quick last minute change on the loadsheet and off we went.

I agree that flying saves time over road. However earlier this week, Vopnafjördur had 1 passenger arriving from Akureyri, and 1 passenger boarding to Akureyri. Vopnafjördur gets 5 flights per week. Yes, 5 flights per week. Fare is 43 euros one way for tourists, or 26 euros with proof of local residency - the rest is Govt subsidy. The only time critical goods I saw were newspapers - probably surpassed now by Internet

This is not an offshore island. Roads exist, many of the residents have their own 4WD vehicle, and a bus could be used by other pax en route. So why an airplane instead of a 10 seat minibus ?

Interesting to see FAE in there, only the 3rd airline operating to the Faroes beside RC and SK. I still dream that NY (now FI) will one day restart the old RKV-FAE, like they operated on the Fokker way back when. :cloudnine:

These towns are around 10 hours away from Reykjavik by road, and 5+ hours away from Akureyri. Compare that with a 30 minute flying time to Akureyri, timed to connect to RKV-AEY-RKV which is around 45 minutes, and you're talking about 2 hours in the air vs. 10 hours on the road to Reykjavik. That, coupled with a lack of large towns in the surrounding area, means that cargo and essential travel alone guarantees these routes survive. It would really surprise me if that route ever got cancelled due to the aforementioned factors.

Couple that with some of the largest and most lucrative fly fishing rivers that are located in the area, giving extra demand from foreign travellers in the summer months which means it borders on being profitable without the subsidies - especially on the 9 seat King Air.

Remember that back in the day, NY used to fly 50 seater F50s RKV-AEY-VPN-THO-AEY-RKV! Those days are long gone now. :cloudnine:

That would be interesting, Norlandair already has a footprint in RKV since they took over the EAS routes to Bildudalur (BIU) and Gjögur (GJR) from Eagle Air last year which means they now have a B200 based here. However, given that Atlantic used to fly RKV-FAE on the A319 and now flies the A320neo to KEF, I think FNA would have a hard time competing against that on such a small aircraft (unless they leased the Q200 from NY, like they do to BIU on a case by case basis when demand calls for it).

To STN, not CPH. And no, it wasn't their launch flight on the route - so no journalists going for free trips
I got the number slightly wrong - not 30 pax but 35 pax
Their A321 is in a somewhat spacious configuration, but with Play offering just a single class of seats, I would expect about 230 seats on a comparable airline.

Anyone flying with the new Norwegian airline today Flyr? I hope there will be some pictures of their inaugural flight.

Have posted some photos here:

I do plan to create a report in English and post it here at Airliners.net later

Thank you for sharing your Norwegian trip report with pictures! It seems like they had a successful launch, without any major technical breakdown even though the app check in seem to have some issues. Cool to see they have sky interior. Are the grey seats covered in airline specific fabric?

Don't think so. Looks more a generic grey

The first two aircraft was from Pegasus, including their red seatbelts. From what I've heard, the next two aircraft are ex-Norwegian. So remains to see if there are different seats then
