Goggle Maps: No Planes at JFK?

Thu Dec 31, 2020 3:28 am

I was just looking at a satellite view of JFK airport on Google Maps and noticed that there wasn’t a single plane at any of the gates or on the tarmac - I believe Google removed the images of all aircraft. Many other airports show planes at the gates so any idea why Google selectively removed them at JFK?

Sadly they are doing it to more and more airports. I suspect eventually they will all be like this. :-(

I believe they look for any object that moves from one image to the next and remove it. This is something they implemented in the last few years and is slowly making its way around the globe.

I assumed it was taken during the height of the pandemic lockdowns in NY during April, as there were few cars on the highways or city streets.

SDF is the same other than one bird on a taxiway.

Noticed that as well, and the pandemic cant have anything to do with it, because it wouldve just made for more planes on the ground. Oh well, itll make for cleaner satellite imagery for msfs2020

Thankfully, MEM has not had the same treatment yet, and all the FedEx planes are visible packing the ramp. I was disappointed today trying to view the SDF UPS hub.

On Google Earth they are gone. I'm looking at them right now in Maps Satellite on a Windows PC.
