I guess FR is the next shoe to fall, but that awaits certification of the 737-8200.

I suspect the UK media swarm will try to make a stir.

Presuming that at best has a temporary impact, I think we can say MAX RTS has been a success.

While LOT moved the 2 of 5 Maxes from Lublin to Warsaw, and the other 3 will fly to WAW by end of March. All will get a C-check at LOTAMS in Warsaw. So I’m guessing at earliest it will be beginning of April before they fly with LOT? Is LOT the only airline doing C-checks, and are they really necessary?

I tried to read up about it but found nowhere it says anything about a C check. I didn’t read anyone else mentioning it here.

Aren’t the C checks a requirement for RTS after storage? All stored flydubai’s MAX aircraft will undergo a C check too.

When I look into FR24 in the night time or early morning I see no red eye operations in the US, while the Canadian and Mexican airplanes are already on their ways. The first MAX aircraft (most of them AA) appears just after sunrise in the eastern US day by day so far. So is there any night time restrictions in place for the MAX in the US?

AA has a red eye 737 MAX flight, SAN-MIA, leaving SAN at 11PM PT and arriving at 6:43 AM ET the next day,

FAA certifies Boeing 737 MAX 8200 (high density 200 seat). EASA says it will certify soon. This is the high density 8MAX ordered by Ryanair and Viejet...

https://www.aerotime.aero/27594-faa-cer ... 37max-8200

I don't know if any of those have been built yet for Ryanair or VietJet, nor when they will start receiving them.. Regardless, it's good news for the MAX program.

Yes but only -FNB and -FNC. FNA was supposed to ferry to DXB just days before the grounding and returned to GSO in the States where she still is. The other 2 entered commercial service in FEB and MAR and flew to Kuwait, Zanzibar, Dar Es Salaam, Bahrain, Muscat, Tashkent and Bucharest.

In a similar stance to Vietnam, India's DGCA has authorized the 737 MAX to overfly its territory.

Furthermore, the agency will issue "special flight permits" to allow lessors to fly their MAXes out of India for storage or maintenance/refurbish reasons:

This is just the formalisation of the grounding that have taken place since early April for the affected frames. It also means that the planes will be ungrounded shortly.

Why isn't the 737Max flying in China?

Fri Jun 11, 2021 2:41 pm

It is now June of 2021 and I noticed that the 737Max is *still* not flying in China. Why is this?
I think it is purely political. The Chinese gov't by keeping the Max grounded there is arbitrarily casting doubt on the aircraft's reputation.
Which is, of course, in the CCP's interest.
The plane has been flying for months now with no issues. What gives?

Why do you ask when you know the answer?

The Chinese authorities are always late to accept the EASA and FAA certification and only do it after a long burocratic process of verification.

After the unmitigated disaster of the FAA certification of the 737MAX and the denial of any problems following the two accidents, I find it not astonishing that some authorities are still gun-shy.

As it is the delay does not seem excessive compared to the usual timeline the Chinese seem to work by.

CAAM Lifts Suspension on Boeing 737 Max Operations in Malaysia. PRESS RELEASE - 2 SEPT 2021

https://twitter.com/CAA_Malaysia/status ... gr%5Etweet

PUTRAJAYA (Bernama): The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has lifted the suspension on Boeing 737 MAX operations in Malaysia, says its chief executive officer Chester Voo.

He said CAAM had approved the operations of Boeing 737-8 and Boeing 737-9, commercially known as Boeing 737 MAX in Malaysia, following its suspension in March 2019 with the release of CAAM Safety Directive 01/2021 – Operations of Boeing 737-8/-9 (MAX) dated Sept 2, 2021.

"The Safety Directive 01/2021 revokes the previous Safety Directive issued on March 13, 2019 that prohibits the operations of B737 MAX 8 in Malaysia," he said in a statement Thursday (Sept 2).

Interesting article. Especially the part of the deal that relates to setting up a manufacturing facility for aircraft parts. As well as training in Addis Ababa:

"Parallel to the settlement over the MAX, Ethiopian Airlines this week made public a related agreement: Boeing will partner with Ethiopian to make the airline’s base in Addis Ababa “Africa’s aviation hub” and to set up a manufacturing facility there to make airplane parts."

"In addition, the partnership will promote the training of pilots and aircraft technicians at the airline’s Aviation Academy in Addis Ababa, and STEM education in Ethiopian schools."

It seems like a well rounded deal that is beneficial for both Ethiopia and Ethiopia Airlines.

Singapore has lifted its ban on the MAX. Commercial services can re-start when SIA can show that it has met the new crew training requirements. Foreign airlines flying in and out of Singapore with the MAX must meet the same requirements.

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/ ... -after-ban

CAAS directive: https://www.caas.gov.sg/docs/default-so ... ements.pdf

From what I was told, point 3(e) in the directive was the cause of the delay. During a visit to the SIA training centre last December I was told the simulator needed to be updated to meet crew training requirements and it was driving the overall timeline and it was hoped to be completed by April/May.

This follows the recent announcement by the Malaysian CAAM on their return to service.

So I currently see a MAX 8 of China Southern, B-1200 on FR24 operating CA1299. This must be some sort of hex code error or something. There has been nothing reported about RTS for the MAX in China and this would be an odd route to begin operations on. Plus, a bigger issue is that this aircraft is operating an Air China flight. Really funny.

If you look a bit further you see that this is the 2nd leg of CA1299, the first part of the flight from Beijing to Hami City was flown by a 737-800. For earlier flights it was always the same aircraft for both legs. So yes, this must have been a hex code error.

How Many MAX Flights Since RTS?

Tue Sep 28, 2021 9:15 pm

Out of a statistical curiosity I'm wondering how many MAX revenue flights have been completed (approximately) since RTS. I'd like to know if the number of flights before the MCAS issue originally showed up have been exceeded by flights since RTS.

I would be interested to know those numbers as well. Southwest alone flew over 40,000 flights with a fleet of 34 prior to the grounding. The max fleet is currently over 60 frames I believe so I would think they are approaching that “equal time point” with no apparent issues.

Interesting question. I know insiders know the true answer. I think they have not yet surpassed the flights before the grounding but that should happen in a month or two. Quick and dirty calculation: by the time of the grounding there were about 350 MAX-es delivered but most in the preceding 12 months, they flew let's say 9 months in average by that time, say 6 flights a day makes 567.000 flights. Now 580 are delivered but about 180 have not yet resumed flying (China, India, Indonesia, Norwegian). The other 400 have been flying but in average only for 5 months, say 360.000 flights. Also due to Covid it can be less. You see airlines like WestJet and Air Canada not doing many flights with their (active) fleet yet.

SpiceJet to resume Boeing 737 MAX flights from October 5. After 2.5 years, the 737 MAX will officially take to the skies in India for commercial ops.

DGCA had lifted the ban on 737 MAX in August end, however Spicejet needed time for the return to service technicalities.

Their pilots are being retrained at a full flight simulator set by Boeing for the 737 MAX in Noida and at a MAX Fixed Base Simulator at the SpiceJet Training Academy.

Spice has 13 737 MAX in its fleet in India, with another 15 737 MAX's in the US and elsewhere in storage and waiting to be delivered.

I have not heard that exact question answered, but many press reports say Boeing provided compensation mostly in the form of credits that could be applied to its goods and services, and my guess is those credits could be applied to time on sims run by Boeing.

Keep in mind, the AD is issued yet the airspace is still closed.

China is doing the ultimate "slow roll" on MAX, IMO.

Guess those 200+ max left undelivered will soon be delivered to Mainland China.......the last frontier......

As for some numbers:

Around a third of about 370 undelivered 737 MAX airplanes in storage are for Chinese customers, Boeing said at the time.

So, closer to 100 than 200 for China, more for the ROW.
