That was the final 737-8 from Southwest's backlog. 737-7s next?

N8751R should make an appearance on 1 July but I think that's it for the year for 737-8s.

Any idea what is Boeing doing with N8703J? It has been pinging on FR24 stationary at BFI and has also done several test flights over the past few months.

I hear there's been some dispute from the UA fanboys over the appearance of the first UA 737-8. It's perhaps worth mentioning that it isn't a UA order. The first 3 are ICBC Leasing orders and ones after that are CDB Aviation to N27261 at least.

Can't edit my post - but on closer inspection seems to be a sale and lease back so probably was UA order after all - maybe undisclosed.

By Backlog I assume you mean the backlog of parked aircraft in various locations.

Couple of questions.

Are all the previous NTU 737 max now spoken for?

I thought the 10 was supposed to be in the air by now, is there an issue? Where are the other test articles?

I keep seeing the mauritania max pinging at ADD, what’s going on with that plane?

Ok so there were 3 questions. Sorry, not sorry!

"Are all the previous NTU 737 max now spoken for?"

Nope. Most have gone under Boeing ownership except the BOCs where most are going to Flair.

"I thought the 10 was supposed to be in the air by now, is there an issue? Where are the other test articles?"

N7201S is at BFI still doing flight tests.. N7202U is stored at MWH. N8701/2/4 in service with WN. N8703 doing flight testing for Boeing, future unclear. N7379E > HS-LSJ Thai Lion stored at BFI. N739EX > HS-LSK was in service with Thai Lion, stored at Batam.

"I keep seeing the mauritania max pinging at ADD, what’s going on with that plane?"

No idea. That delivered years ago. Ask in African aviation thread.

Is there any list of the NTUs and results? Certainly will be a lot between Jet Airways and Norwegian alone. But we know Flair and AS are taking some, among others?

The list would be huge. No info on the NAXs but most of the JAIs are (were?) going to GOL, but many of those are GECAS frames and they are not in good shape themselves so all bets could be off now. There have been huge lessor cancellations. Many frames are in limbo until financing can be arranged through other parties. I know that Aviation Capital Group, Avolon, GECAS, ALAFCO and, ICBC are badly affected which accounts for around half of the backlog, especially the first two. Plus you've got Comair, Eastar Jet, Royal Air Maroc, Oman Air (own), Samoa all allegedly cancelling and unknowns with the Lion Group frames.

A few things of note RE cancellations. A LOT frame and a T’Way frame have appeared painted over in VCV, unknown if it is the same frame or if these are two different frames. From what I’ve heard, Comair has only cancelled two. I suspect a lot of the cancellations we are seeing are carriers transferring owned to leased, or shopping which lessor gives them the best deal, but that is just my personal speculation.

Those will be 7617 and 7888. They've been there since March 2020. The AerCap/T'Way is still on last I heard, but the ALAFCO/LOT is cancelled and under Boeing inventory now.

All we heard was some time in June, and even that was via unofficial channels, so I would not hit the panic button just yet.

This is my first attempt at adding an entry to this website so I have my fingers crossed.

Re SOUTHWEST AIRLINES

https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data ... x1016aalso list MSN and delivery dates.htm

Supplemental Agreement No. 11 states:
“WHEREAS, Customer and Boeing have agreed to terminate one (1) aircraft bearing MSN: 42556 that was to be delivered in July 2018, and replace such aircraft with one (1) aircraft delivering in August 2021 with the [***] the aircraft bearing MSN: 42556”

Make of that what you will. Further down the Agreement is a list of MSN along with the proposed delivery dates.

https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data ... 3729re.htm

Supplemental Agreement No. 12 also includes MSN & delivery dates. These may add to or, in some cases, replace some of the dates in Agreement No. 11.
According to SA12, delivery of the MAX 7s is due to start in January 2022 (with those already built) extending through April 2025. Delivery of the Max 8s is due to start in January 2026 extending through October 2031.

I hope the information in the two Agreements is helpful.

Thanks Iowgun and welcome. The first link doesn't work unfortunately. I wonder about the wording as 42556 can't be used for the "replacement" frame as it's obviously already in use on 5728 and would remain the same regardless of WN taking it or not. The official confirmation that 5728 is cancelled for WN is certainly appreciated nonetheless.

Interesting, what is wrong with N8703J? Quite interesting that WN has taken the first and 2nd and 4th test aircraft and not this particular frame.

Sorry about the link. I copied & pasted it but the system only highlighted part of it. Thanks to the kind person who found a better link.

Rob, the quote from SA 11 didn’t make a lot of sense to me either hence my statement “make of that what you will”. There is a part of the quote which has been redacted by the airline & I’m wondering if we knew what that said whether the quote would make more sense. Anyhow, I checked an old copy of Boeing’s order database & it showed one new MAX ordered on 18 December 2019 which is the date stated at the start of SA 11. I think that makes it clear that msn 42556 has been cancelled & is now replaced by another aircraft (msn still to be discovered).

As for msn 42556, it may be going to be retained by Boeing as a test aircraft for future changes.

Thanks lowgun;. Yes, I have the same thoughts about the future of 42556. Seems like it could become the 737 equivalent of the LH 747-8 N828BA.

Hello texl1649

Re:" Did SWA just order 34 more to be announced today?"

See the excerpt below from the 6-8-21 CNBC article at the link after the excerpt.

"Southwest Airlines said Tuesday it is increasing its order for Boeing’s smallest 737 Max model by nearly three dozen planes, citing an improvement in travel demand.

The Dallas-based airline said in a filing that will exercise options to increase its firm orders of 737 Max 7s by 34 planes, bringing its total order book for that plane to 234. The all-Boeing 737 airline also has orders for 149 Max 8 planes to be delivered through 2031, as the company retires older 737s."

Welcome Lowgun, you are doing fine. You will notice that each thread has a different 'tone', something in one thread is fine, but you'll get trashed in a different one. You are spot on in this threads 'tone.'

Thank you JayinKipsak. Just for the record, I didn't start the other thread, just pointed people in its direction if it is helpful.

I have been keeping an eye on the quarterly reports lodged with the SEC by Southwest as they enclose copies of purchase agreements with Boeing. These Supplemental Agreements generally contain information about MSN and delivery dates. I had long given up looking at the Form 8-Ks as they generally showed things like change of shareholders and other mundane information.

No sooner had I pointed people in the direction of SA 12 then somebody else points us in the direction of the latest Form 8-K..It just shows you that if we each have a piece of the jigsaw puzzle, and pass it on, we all end up with a clearer picture.

I will be keeping an eye on the next quarterly report to see if there is a copy of a new Supplemental Agreement combining the information in SA 12 & the Form 8-K.

Two new deliveries today 6-10-21 according to FlightRadar24. According to FlightRadar24 GOL Airlines 737-8 PR-XMO left Boeing Field at 1:53 PM PDT today for Cancun (CUN) operating as GOL flight 39657, and Flair Airlines 737-8 CL-FHI left Boeing Field at 3:14 PM today for Calgary (YYC) operating as Flair flight 83.

I just realized that the last digit in the airline code for both GOL and Flair is a number, and that as a result, the flight number for the GOL delivery flight was actually 9657 (not 39657), and the flight number for the Flair delivery flight was actually 3 (not 83).

I just found an article on CH-Aviation regarding Ryanair's MAX 200 delivery delays, which explains in a more direct manner what is specifically happening.

It appears that although the MAX 200 was officially certified, Boeing has not been able to deliver any of them yet due to bureaucratic issues with the FAA regarding the approval of the extra door (emergency exit) sets.

I posted it in this thread. It's unclear whether it was damage or production issues but the best information I have (that I feel I can share) is that it had some kind of issues that presumably would put it on a different MX schedule than the other ones. So, WN decided not to accept it and 8751 is the "replacement" to give WN the full compliment of 50 ETOPS-equipped Max-8s. (8701-8751, sans 8703)

Sounds a bit like that final Lufthansa 747-8 not taken up because it had amassed more flight test hours during Boeing testing before handover ending up with a maintenance schedule too different from the rest of the LH batch for easy maintenance.

According to the following excerpt from the 6-11-21 Wall Street Journal article as the link after the excerpt, the number of stored 737's without buyers was approximately 100 in July 2020, but is now down to approximately 10.

"The Covid-19 vaccine-fueled travel rebound in the U.S. and some other parts of the world has left the Chicago-based plane maker with around 10 stored MAX aircraft needing buyers, people familiar with the matter said. Last July, it counted around 100."

Overall there is a lot of positive momentum for Team B, but to me the main downer is that China still has not approved the MCAS fix and shows no sign of doing so any time soon. If you look at the link I posted to the storage at KMWH earlier, you will see a LOT of aircraft with Chinese characters in the livery. It seems those won't be going anywhere any time soon. The recent interview with Calhoun on AvWeek didn't offer too much optimism on that front. Yet I think progress is inevitable. The Chinese operators aren't going to want to sit on their aging NGs forever. I realize they have no choice but to do what they are told to do, but I think a workable solution will be found.

AS I suspected, Boeing delivered the paperwork in blue ink and the FAA decided they wanted it in black LOL :)

China and the US are sabre-rattling war threats at each other. The Chinese frames are not going anywhere due to that. They could sign them off tomorrow if they wanted to. All politics as per usual.

According to flightradar24, TUI 737-8 G-TUMV departed Boeing Field at 3:13 PM PDT today 6-11-21 enroute to London Gatwick (LGW), operating as TUI Flight 950P. According to flightradar24 the most recent prior flight for G-TUMV was on on 6-9-21 as Boeing Flight 868, thus today's flight is a delivery flight.

Is there a website someplace where we can see the planned delivery schedule? I am looking for the next two Flair Max 8 registration numbers?

I am note that optimistic about China clearing the Max anytime soon, and they do have alternatives, albeit not as good as a RTS of the Max. They could either buy more from A and Embraer, or push their domestic models. Also if China does suspend the Max indefinitely many that will have effects on many regional operator who subsequently can't use their Max to fly to China, causing B problems beyond the Chinese market itself. I am suspecting that B will not build any Max planes for Chinese customers in the immediate future, but please correct me if I am wrong. If production of frames intended for Chinese customers resume, that would be a good sign.

Pretty confident they’ve rolled some out very recently. The MAX will not be banned indefinitely, it’s just political negotiating. The airlines need that aircraft now, Airbus and Embraer can’t replace that in the short-term as you suggest.

They couldn't have just moved the UNITED titles forward enough to not cover the overwing exits? I know I know, small dumb little detail to complain about but once I see it I can't stop looking at it. Same story on their 738s.

Maybe it is intentional so the name gets not partly covered when the front door is connected to a jetway or a catering truck Is parked there?
