Despite further delays in the development of the 777-9, Boeing is keeping 777 production at 2 per month.

The most recent 24 frames , LN1670 - 1693, have comprised

8 777-9
8 777-300ER
7 777F
1 777-200LR

Presumably the next 24 will be predominantly 777Fs.

Should be D-AALR. There's two more Aerologic 77F's to come this year as well, also presumably for DHL operations.
When's the next Fed Ex 77F due ?

D-AALR is correct. PH-BVW returned from paint yesterday, should have name Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks.

Don’t think she’s going to VCV today, but she should be soon. And yes, she’s going to be stored, don’t know how long.

Does anyone know how many more DHL 777Fs are due? I believe that even before the recently placed order, they still had several more coming from their previous order. Does anyone know which of the DHL partner airlines those frames will be assigned to? There is a rumour I am trying to confirm!

I wonder if this is the same rumour I’ve heard. That some might end up at Air Hong Kong?

According Boeing's order and delivery webpage four (4) more are due from earlier orders, placed in March 2019 (2x) and June 2019 (2x)
The first of these four will be L/N 1693, D-AALR destined to be operated by AEROLOGIC.

The January 2021 order for (8) eight 777F aircraft was placed by another entity : "DHL Aviation Americas", all previous orders are listed as "DHL"

The rumours says 3 of them all this year.

So there are 4 DHL 777Fs this year...after D-AALR, have the other 3 been assigned? And when are they due?

I’ve heard up to 3 frames crewed by CX pilots, so it’s the same as you have heard.

According to Boeing’s figures for the end of January 2021, there are now 14 unfilled orders for the 777-300ER.

This is down by 2 following the final 2 deliveries of the Novus order for British.

The status of the remaining 14 is as follows ;

Two frames for Aeroflot, previously in storage, are now back at Everett. These are LN 1652 and 1654.
Two frames for KLM have been built and are being prepared for delivery or storage. These are LN 1681 and 1686.
Two frames ordered by BOC have been built for Thai Airways and are being prepared for delivery or storage. These are LN 1683 and 1687.
One ‘Unidentified’ order has been built, painted for China Southern and is now in storage. This is LN 1641.
Two frames, one each on order for Aeroflot and BOC have not yet been reported in assembly and have no LN identified.
Five frames on order for Pakistan International are not expected to be built.

Cheers

The third BOC/Thai frame rolled out on January 21st.

It's been pinging with hex 885283 in 216 for two weeks. Just filling in the blanks, would be WE868 66586/1690 HS-TTC 'Simongkhon'

Aerologic are due to get D-AALS & AALT this year as well for DHL ops so that accounts for two of them.

Thanks for posting the video link, still amazes me to watch these planes go together, and the amount of detail in the paint is also a bit eye opening, for me at least!

The first of this new DHL order of 8 777 freighters (+ 4 options) is scheduled to be delivered in 2022.
The four to be delivered DHL 777F aircraft in 2021 are from an earlier order.

Why would any airline want to buy a new 777-200LR? There are plenty of them parked in the desert. If I owned the production slot for that plane, I would sell it to an airline that flues the 777F.

You do not own the production slot nor are you allowed to sell the production slot. That slot belongs to Boeing, not you- you buy airplanes not production slots. You have to hope that you can favorably cancel your 77L order, that was likely placed when there were not tons of 77L sitting in the desert, without having to pay Boeing massive penalties.

It's not an airline order. It's an order from Turkmenhowayollary Agency (Turkmenistan State) probably for State/VIP use.

According the Boeing order webpage all four ordered 777-200LR aircraft for Turkmenistan are indicated by customer : "Turkmenhowayollary Agency"

Of the three already delivered 777-200LR aircraft, one (EZ-A777) is a VIP configured aircraft, the other two (EZ-A778 and EZ-A779) are in C28Y263 airline configuration..

I am aware of that. My point still stands that this is not your 'traditonal' airline order. I still find it unlikely that this will be for pax use considering that EZ-A779 hasn't flown for a year and only did a single 3.5 hour round trip to IST per day and EZ-A778 only flies sporadic flights every few weeks to random destinations which are not scheduled services.

A country like Turkmenistan mainly makes orders like that for political and prestige reasons. Economics are not a priority. Perhaps earlier Boeing orders smoothened the US-Turkmenistan relationship. Their dictator wants to take delivery of a new aircraft, even while the type is a bit obsolete (compare to the middle eastern Sheikhs still ordering 707s in 1977 or a single 747SP in 1987). Even while a second hand Etihad/Air India aircraft would have been cheaper to purchase and operate, he would never want to be seen in a hand-me down.

I did some further research into the four Turkmenistan 777-200LR aircraft :

L/N 889 C/N 39548 B777-22KLR EZ-A777 TURKMENISTAN (WD091) VIP configuration
L/N 1181 C/N 42296 B777-22KLR EZ-A778 TURKMENISTAN (WD121) airline configuration C28Y263
L/N 1194 C/N 42297 B777-22KLR EZ-A779 TURKMENISTAN (WD122) airline configuration C28Y263
L/N 1691 C/N 66893 B777-200LR EZ-A780 (N55061) TURKMENISTAN (WD123)

L/N 889, EZ-A777, has been built according an unique variable (tabulation) number WD091, indicating a different customer specification.
The last three have been built according one variable number block (WD121-123) , indicating the same (airline) configuration ?

Interesting to note is that A777 has white engines while the other ones green; perhaps the use will be determined when we see the colors of the engines ?

I'm curious about how DHL orders and allocates new aircraft. Do they operate a central purchasing unit, or is it up to the individual constituent carriers operating under the DHL umbrella to order as required ?

Boeing shows recent deliveries as DHL, in the past they’ve also used DHL International but not for a long time. Unfilled orders for the 777F are shown as a mix of DHL (4)and DHL Aviation Americas (8).

So, taking the doubtful PIA order out of the equation, as things stand 1695 will then be the final 77W to be built.

Based on the Boeing public page showing they only have 2 frames outstanding, I assume so.

Geoff

The original orders were from DHL Aviation Americas, however they were reassigned to DHL Network Operations (USA) Inc and delivered to them. Maybe Boeing hasn't yet reflected this on their public page, hence why 2 separate lines. As for what the exact arrangement is between "DHL" and the actual operating entity, I really don't know. The ones in DHL colours seem to have "operated by x" stickers on their noses so does that count as a lease, or sub-lease arrangement? No idea who pay the bills or whose crew flies them.

1694 is N776CK.

I think 1698 is probably CKS as well. I'm guessing at N778CK which is reserved (N777CK is already taken by some tin)

According the Lufthansa Group fleet listing : D-AALR, D-AALS and D-AALT, all three to be delivered to DHL in 2021, are to be operated by Aerologic.
See : https://sites.google.com/site/lhgroupfleet/cargo/fleet
According DHL a total of four new DHL 777F aircraft will be delivered in 2021.
