Re: Airbus A220 Production/Delivery Thread - 2021

Sun Nov 14, 2021 6:17 pm

I reviewed the Airbus production site and I counted 39, not 37 delivered so far in 2021;

DL x 7 (3 x 100/4 x 300)
Swiss x 1
AC X 10
AF X 3
JetBlue x 6
Tanzania x 2
Baltic x 7
Astral x 3

I may be mistaken and stand to be corrected if so.

MSN 55139 + MSN 55140 Air France were delivered in November so MSN 55138 should be #3 in November

All I report is what I read on other forums/websites, and according to aibfamily.flights, MSN 55140 was "Delivered on Contract" in October. Mario gets his info from Airbus directly, so all I can go by to post here is what is reported by him via his website. I assume that "Delivered on Contract" is the date that the frame has been paid for and delivery has been accepted by the airline, and has nothing to do with the actual "Delivery" date when the frame departs home:

Correct !
Airbus O&D sheet October = 3 A220-100 and 33 A220-300 delivered and now 2 Air France and one Air Canada in Novevember = 39

I also read on other websites but at the end of the day the safest source is Airbus` O&D sheet and there was no delivery in October to Air France.
I know you do your best to provide us with good information which is not easy with all those "delivered on contract" things at all

AF has received 3 frames so far this year...F-HZUA/B/C...and these are already included in the 36 A223 deliveries as shown above. You've added the 2 most recent deliveries for AF for November, but they are already in your table above, thus duplicated. So the total deliveries year-to-date for the A223 stands at 37, not 39!

No !!! Total deliveries year-to-date for the A220-300 stands at 36 not 37 !
The list from Skywatcher includes the A220-100 and thus 39 total deliveries for the A220 family is correct.

From Audidudi above, Air Senegal is picking up at least one.

With 3 A220-300 and 7 A220-100 on order and with Air Senegal picking up this cancelled order, could they be picking up other assembled 'white-tails'? A200-100 50019 and 50006 come to mind.

Swiss cancelled 50019 for another a220-300 and 50006 was the first production a220-100, likely destined for Braethen who were supposed to be CSeries launch customer.

Many of those early “white tails” were not completed and likely never will be, or are former test aircraft. There is no desire from Airbus to finish/refurbish/deliver them (why would they? It would just lose Airbus even more money than a new build and they were not the ones who spent the money to build them in the first place), and IIRC some or all of them don’t even belong to Airbus Canada and never transferred out of Bombardier ownership, so they are not Airbus’s to sell.

The Air Vanuatu jets are relatively late builds (eg built in 2020) not comparable at all to the early builds that have been sitting around for the better part of a half decade now.

I`m not aware that Air Senegal has 10 A220`s on order. They had a MoU for eight and at the Dubai Airschow they leased 5 A220-300 from Macquarie AirFinance

It appears that the pace of deliveries is picking up. So far there have been 4 this month. There should be another one in Nov. and maybe a typical year end push to get 6 out in Dec?
Is this doable?

Are we at the point where 6/mo. is achievable yet? If so that's notable progress during the last year.

I believe the MoU for 8 was firmed early 2020. Delivery of the leased frames is only in ’23, so this Frame is likely of the original order.

..
..The carrier is configuring its Airbus A220-300s with 140 seats, compared to 100 for its Embraer E190ARs. Despite this big discrepancy in seating capacity, the two models cost similar amounts to operate on a per-trip basis, thanks to the A220-300's low maintenance costs and dramatically superior fuel efficiency. However, the A220-300 can do a lot more than fly short-haul routes. It has enough range to operate transcontinental routes and even some trans-Atlantic routes. This means that JetBlue can use their A220-300s more than its Embraer E190ARs, for example, by operating transcontinental flights during the overnight hours when they would otherwise sit idle. Additionally, a few years down the road, the A220-300 could replace some of JetBlue's aging Airbus A320-232/232(WL)s.
..
..JetBlue Airways expects to receive another 9 A220-300s in 2022, 18 in 2023 and 22 in 2024. Thanks to A220-300's combination of long range, low trip costs and low unit costs, JetBlue Airways is likely to find many new growth opportunities that wouldn't be viable otherwise. That could encourage it to order more A220-300s in the years ahead.
..
..And half of its fleet of 130 Airbus A320-232/232(WL)s will be at least 20 years old by 2025. The carrier will probably replace some of those planes with 200-seat A321neos. In other cases, replacing Airbus A320-232/232(WL)s with the slightly smaller A220-300s will maximize JetBlue's margins by helping the carrier to better match capacity to demand while keeping unit costs low.
..
..In addition to 7 Image A220-300 aircraft, a major American, JFK-based, low cost airline JetBlue Airways (B6/JBU), has received this year in its fleet, besides 5 Image A321-271NX, and 3 Image A321-271NX/LR, long- range aircraft; MTOW: 97.000 kg / 213.848 lb, cabin configuration: C24 Y114, all powered by two Image PW1133G-JM, ‘2,5’-shaft, high-bypass, GTF engines (fan diameter: 81,0 in / 2.057,4 mm; BPR: 12,5:1; gear ratio: 3,0625:1; eng. architecture: 1F-]G[-3LPC–8HPC〧2HPT–3LPT), OPR: 50,0:1, each rated at 147,28 kN / 15.018 kgf / 33.110 lbf.
..
..Additionally, JetBlue Airways is the first launch partner for the new Airspace cabin configuration designed by Airbus to bring the long-haul style to Airbus A321 aircraft. With the Airspace cabin configuration, Airbus A321-271NX/LR aircraft has a layout of only 138 seats: 114 in economy class and 24 in jetBlue’s Mint Suites.
..
..The first test flight of this type of the aircraft happened on 13. July 2021, on the route JFK - LHR with the Airbus A321-271NX/LR, MSN 10303, reg. N4022J.
..
..One gets the impression that JetBlue Airways company has not only a moderately set goals but a clear development program and a meticulously charted path how to reach them. It seems the team that runs the company knows very well what they are doing. With 223/BCS3 and 32Q/A21N you can't go wrong. The only question is whether you can and know how to utilize them …

Doable yes but pending on the airlines.
MSN 55147 Air Canada delivered 3 December :checkmark:
MSN 55141 Air France actually in the air for next flight :checkmark:
MSN 55149 Air France first flight done :checkmark:
MSN 55128 Breeze Airways should make it after six test flights
MSN 55136 Iraqi Airways possible but not sure
MSN 55145 Iraqi Airways possible but not sure
MSN 55089 Air Senegal actually also in the air possible but not sure

You see if everything goes sound than even seven deliveries are possible.
Maybe "audidudi" has a different opinion ?

Are the floor plate/doormats on the A220 still being delivered with “C-Series” painted on them? I see the Breeze A220s have this, seems like a bit of an oversight?

Also,
MSN 55137 Breeze had 1st flight in early November
MSN 55142 Delta had 1st flight in late November

How about
MSN 55089 Air Senegal

As to Air Senegal, they announced the lease deal with Macquarrie but those were identified as delivery in 2023. The Oct O&D still shows Air Senegal with their own order for 8. Did they cancel and decide to lease instead with Macquarrie? Did Macquarrie pick up 55089? Or are Air Senegal doing a sale and leaseback with Macquarie? That would still have Macquarrie with their own order of 29 to place. November O&D might answer these questions.

With Breeze I can`t tell you what is going on. They should have first delivery already in October but still nothing.
Delta as far as I know will take the next delivery only in 2022. There are also already built A220-100s MSN 50062 + 63 + 64 for delivery next year. The last delivery schedule I saw for Delta was : 4x A220-100 and 7x A220-300 in 2022.
For Air Senegal I just wait for the next O&D sheet from Airbus because I`m also a bit confused

I’m not going to go into detail on the why part because what I know is only very believable hearsay, but Breeze will be taking the first 3 planes in December. Dispute celebrating “delivery” in October when they showcased the public, no official delivery has occurred yet. Official delivery for 203/204/206BZ will occur between this week and Christmas.

The Airbus O&D sheet for November confirms this. 14 orders for a socalled dead horse in one month. Not bad !
To my surprise Airbus delivered seven A220s in November
Air France 3x
Air Canada 2x
Jetblue 1x
Iraqi Airways 1x
So far this year 40x -300s and 3x -100s delivered

November O&D also shows 10 cancellations for the -100. It appears to be the previously undisclosed order for 10.

Still not clear how the Air Senegal order for -300 is impacted by the November lease deal with Macquarrie. Both are stall showing 8 and 29 orders respectively.

Yes I forgot to add the totals to the delivery. I still have only 2 deliveries for December so far, but maybe I've missed one. Anyone?

MSN 55146 was Delivered on Contract on 23 November 2021:

If we take it absolutely correct than you can have only one delivery so far in December. MSN146 and MSN147 were delivered on contract in November already.
See MSN136 Iraqi Airways was delivered on contract on 8th November but still not flown out.
#41 for 2021 is correct

I can only go by this, as I don't have any inside source at AB...I'm somewhat surprised that it was Delivered on Contract on 8 November, but yet wasn't spotted until 2 weeks later with it's delivery registration!
