Here goes, there are 15 official "Not Built" MSNs,.......

Close, but no cigar :D

Not Built MSN's:
Aeroflot: 242, 253
American: 108, 131, 156, 166
Ethiopian: 377
Hong Kong A/l: 384
LATAM: 139, 152, 171, 367
Qatar: 275, 353, 361
SAS: 360
United: 194, 222
Unknown: 288, 304, 317

Some news for me. I had 171 as the first frame for SriLankans own order (so not the AerCaps which went to Sichuan) instead of LATAM.
317 I had it was for Lufthansa, it was reallocated to msn 314 or 390.

So, all in all, 21 unbuilt MSMNs. And on the other hand, 24 unused, built A350s. So, an airline could build a complete fleet almost instantly…

Any word on exactly when French Bee's A35Ks are due for delivery this year? Is this the right thread to ask about that?

Not sure of delivery date, but they have been allocated MSN 539 and MSN 560. Currently Airbus production is hovering around MSN470-500

On 13 Jan 2021 audidudi posted a link of a fully painted BA A350-1000 [MSN 473] without engines. Since then it has not been mentioned in any daily updates which strikes me as as a long time with no evident progress. I am wondering whether there is a problem with this particular aircraft eg an engine supply issue or do BA want to slow delivery rates or is this not an especially long interval between initial roll out and progress to engine testing and test flights?

Any thoughts welcomed.

Are you sure about this "34 built, but in storage units currently"? Could you list the MSNs for these 34 as I can't come up with near that number. Thanks!

He listed out the MSNs in reply 143. I haven’t double checked that they are all correct. Some of them, like the EY birds, are stored but not for sale/looking for a new home. There are also some planes that are technically not stored but whose owners probably wouldn’t mind if someone else wanted them.

I am not him but they are probably thinking about:
ex LATAM: 024, 027, 035, 045, 048, 064, 079, 200, 250, 265, 282, 313, 363
ex or ntu Hainan Group : 124, 153, 168, 187, 226, 245, 246, 256, 270, 285, 308, 323, 338, 351, 355
Etihad 290, 315, 330, 342, 388
Air Mauritius/SAA 354, 365
And then there are others like Aeroflot and the other Chinese airlines who seem to drag taking delivery. Not all are for sale but given they are stored I guess you might be able to buy them if you offer a fair price.

That’s a lot of A350’s sitting around and looking for a home! But the way some of you are posting referring these to be on Airbuses books is incorrect.
The 5 Etihad have been contractually delivered to Etihad, so they are their problem, not Airbuses
The 13 former Latam are the respective lessors problem, not Airbuses
The 2 Air Mauritius are their problem, not Airbuses
Most of the Hainan Group/Hong Kong Airlines are their problem or the respective lessor “ALAFCO”.

Airbuses Problem are the NTU’s From Hainan and the delayed deliveries from numerous airlines.

So saying/referring 34 built in-storage is a financial drain/problem etc is incorrect, the big problem is these frames will complete against future sales for Airbus.

Hey there, thank you for your comment, I understand where you are coming from. However I would like to state I think you got me, MEA-707 and Polot wrong, what we have stated is those 34 A350 are simply in storage stage regardless whether they been contractually delivered to lessor, owner or simply NTU. At no time we imply that those 34 A350 are (still) in Airbus book or causing financial drain on Airbus. With EY B77W retirement announcement yesterday, things will change again in next few months.

The aircraft went into storage as BA didn't have any need for it (unsurprisingly) given non-essential travel from the U.K. is banned, here it was pictured in February. Delivery is now due in May - so I would expect to see it being unwrapped soon.

Funny enough the next BA A350 was rolled out (without engines) earlier this week (G-XWBJ), so we may see 2 x A350 deliveries in May.

Since it's a long seen tradition from Airbus, two questions for anyone interested.

1. Do you think more raise(s) of MTOW are in the pipeline?
2. What would be the limit?

I'd say there's quite a big chance (next to certain), that rumoured Project Sunrise 322-323t bird MTOW will also be available to standard bird, like we've seen to 900ULR. But is this going to be the last, or are we going to see more? There's no direct pressure from the market, no competition and no particular routes to push further, but A330 is a nice example of incremental updates by Airbus, and I'd expect more of the same on A350. One more upgrade? 325t, more or less?

Your thoughts?

Read a post on IG, MSN338 is the last of ntu for HNA Group A350 order to be delivered, albeit to its lessor ALAFCO via Geneva onwards storage at Teruel. With that, Airbus, if I am correct, has cleared out HNA Group undelivered frames. Airbus dabbled with HNA Group A350 has came to an end.

Airbus formally lists highest-weight A350-1000 at 319t

FGlobal's statement makes no sense:

"Airbus has not yet confirmed whether the Qantas aircraft – which will have a range of 8,700nm – will include additional fuel capacity beyond the -1000’s basic figure"

Obviously they're going to have to do something, as the GC for LHR-SYD is nearly 9200nm, before winds/tracking are even factored into the equation.
Heck, 8700nm wouldn't even be sufficient for a reliable southwest-bound JFK-SYD op.

I'd say there's quite a big chance (next to certain), that rumoured Project Sunrise 322-323t bird MTOW will also be available to standard bird, like we've seen to 900ULR.

The only reasons they'd do it would be the combination of ease of production + lack of objection by customers who don't need the performance of otherwise identical proportions.

If they can keep the OEW relatively similar to what it is now, then they have an incentive to standardize it for cost of production. As you mentioned, we've seen this recently demonstrated with the A359ULR and A321LR.

The current A35K can operate 99% of all current and even envisioned routes by just about any carrier, range-wise, so there's VERY few carriers who actually "need" this kind of performance. Thus if the empty weight ends up being significantly increased, then they'll strongly object to Airbus standardizing the model, and likely shop elsewhere within this market segment.

but A330 is a nice example of incremental updates by Airbus

Actually, A330 is an extremely anomalous example, because its range was for a long time artificially stifled in favor of an internally-competitive model.
We likely won't see anything like that again, in the future.

Cheers,
Adam

If a 322 to 323t MTOW bird manages Project Sunrise that will be it for the passenger frame, no airline will need more. Today the move is not to build in additional capabilities, but to not carry unnecessary weight.

It could be a completely different think for a A350F that Airbus is thinking about. It will be anyway different, shorter than the A350-1000 and more capable than the A350-900. There the MTOW is limited by the MLG offering about 350 t and what Airbus wants to design.

well, there is still LHR-AKL and back to be done non-stop :)

Since Airbus still isn´t trading MZFW for TOW/Fuel there is probably still some room to move up.

Is there any particular meaning to those high numbers of customer acceptance flights? And the 13 test flights of MSN 414?

Airlines are not clamoring for new A350s (or any wide body really) at the moment so they are stalling delivery as much as possible. Which means more test flights as customers find “unacceptable” problems (eg frayed/torn carpets, slightly misaligned interior panels, loose/rattling trim, etc) that in normal times they would let slide and deal with themselves.

Not surprising as this aircraft is due to Aeroflot, recently they ntu one of their new airframe MSN448 went to newcomer World2fly as EC-NOI. Unless SU decides to accelerate the retirement of their A330ceo or older B77W fleet, or even Rossiya's 744 and use A350 as replacement, we will see more A350 delivery delay for them.
