AZS is strange they likely got a subsidy. Both AA and B6 couldn't make AZS work the last time around.

Find it interesting that La Romana didn't work but now they're going into Samana.

Got to give AA credit for launching the most new routes (beside WN, B6, and G4) during this pandemic.

Are we forgetting UA? They added quite a bit of Florida p2p and India, too. Ghana, Nigeria, and JNB are set to be added into the network in the coming months too, IIRC.

They're trying to get everyone vaccinated so that they can re-open for Passover (beginning March 27) and Easter (April 4).

If memory serves, DFW-TLV was explained as a great connection point for Mexico traffic. Lots of Catholics.

The Mexico-TLV traffic isn't exactly high yielding, but it is numerous. When I worked for TK in IAH, TLV was always a top destination. There were a few days when more of the plane was headed to TLV than IST. But lots of it were religious groups heading over, but there were a handful up front too (although not that common). We once had an entire AM E190s worth of people heading to TLV from MRY. They had so much stuff that it didn't even fit on the AM plane!

Samaná is also really cool-the first American carrier to Samaná. Bizarre leisure routes from the always cheap CLT are an interesting new idea.[/quote]

JetBlue had flown there before. Once a week from JFK. I think they dropped it around 2015-16?

Paramaribo is long overdue. Lots of business ties between Suriname and South Florida. Tel Aviv logically should work also and nice to see AA after abandoning TLV following both the TW and US mergers making it work now.

Yes FLL-PAP was loaded last month I believe (A week or so after B6 entered MIA indicating it was retaliation) but never formally announced. Was being held for a bigger int'l announcement it appears.

I've always thought AA needed more New England to Miami routes from some of the smaller cities so I'm happy PWM-MIA is now year round. It's interesting there is demand on that route in particular.

Anybody know if MIA-BUF is still seasonal? I don't see it on the schedules for this month. Also what's the possibility that AA would add SYR or ALB or BTV to MIA?

I may have missed it, but is PWM going year-round? The press release says, “The airline is also introducing two new domestic routes from the MIA hub to Little Rock, Arkansas (LIT) and Portland, Maine (PWM), operating from June 5 through Aug. 16.“

Plus itineraries that don't transit a third country are a lot more appealing right now. In a non-COVID environment, connecting in London or Frankfurt or Paris or whatever is a non-issue. I'm sure consumer anxiety about transit country testing/vaccination and documentation requirements is causing additional TLV demand for U.S. carriers.

No. The B6 partnership is focused on JFK/LGA/EWR and DCA + BOS. Good to see AA add these routes. Smart moves in MIA and adding TLV, even now, is a no brainer.

MIA's connection opportunities are also so much better than NYC's. It gives easy access to Latin America and it provides convenient connections to the South Eastern USA plus Texas. I wish nothing but the best to AA on this route.

I’m shocked that they are launching AZS from CLT and leaving out Miami. Wow.

Otherwise good adds. Tel Aviv is really taking off for AA finally.

The MIA-LIT will really help Envoy route aircraft from Miami to its maintenance bases.

MIA and DFW are open, makes sense that they are growing. CLT is fairly open and has more domestic connections than MIA.

LAX, NYC, ORD, and PHL are closed. Seems logical they get pushed back or little adds.

AA served DOM from SJU in the past with an ATR.

I’m not sure an E75 can serve DOM due to the mountainous terrain and short runway.

Didn’t FedEx send 727s in there? But yes, I’m aware it’s a very challenging airport.

I flew on as a passenger on LIAT about 10 years ago. It was an interesting approach.

MIA is a dreadful place at which to connect between Israel and the Southeast. MIA is 600 miles south of ATL, for instance.

Might be the opposite - the additional frequencies on MIA-PAP/SDQ/STI might actually be in response to B6 entering MIA. All 3 are served by B6 from FLL.

Also FLL-PAP returning after a few years off the route completely is probably directly related to B6. AA is the go-to airline for many Haitian-Americans in south Florida and it was a mistake for AA to pull of that route and force all their local customers to use MIA. Many will, but some prefer FLL so the 1x day makes sense and strikes back at whatever passengers B6 has poached the last few years to/from Haiti.

They have a partnership in the Northeast but must continue to compete elsewhere otherwise Delta's flimsy claims of collusion, etc might get put higher on the DOJ radar. I expect AA & B6 to vigorously compete in south Florida.

That is the same schedule many flights to Northern South America have from MIA.

GEO has pretty much the same schedule.
GYE, LIM, BOG all have frequencies with similar timings as well.

Obviously a terrible source but Wikipedia says the CLT-AZS route is an American Eagle route which would most likely mean it's a E175 which would be the longest AA E175 flight from CLT IIRC

TLV from MIA? That's a shocker for sure. Really surprised they didn't try DFW-TLV first but maybe there's some logic behind it. PBM is not too much of a surprise and I think that route should do well. LIT/PWM were definitely some holes on the domestic side of MIA so I imagine those should work out fine.

I think CLT-AZS will do well, but I'm definitely surprised they didn't try from MIA first. I could see MIA maybe being added in down the road. CLT-RNO should do well on a seasonal basis.

How is that "a shocker," when MIA was by far the largest market to Israel from the USA without a stateside carrier on it?

...the only thing surprising about it, is that it took AA this long to jump on.

There's a Republic subfleet equipped with life vests. Due to the lack of rafts, the flight will have to hug the coastline down to Florida most likely before proceeding over the Bahamian archipelago.

CLT-Caribbean flights operated by aircraft equipped with life rafts usually take a Great Circle Route and exit the continental US by way of the Myrtle Beach-area and bypass the Bahamas altogether.

For the right price or for reasoning unknown to us people will do CHA MIA TLV.

in my flying I have sat next to people doing DFW IAH AUS (this one was funny since t-storms diverted us to AUS so my seat mate asked to get off!), LAX MIA LHR, LHR IST IAH, NBO JNB AMS routings even when much easier routings existed. My personal favourite was a seat mate doing POS MIA KIN so that he could stop off in Miami and do shopping and charge it to his client.

To my knowledge the longest previous Eagle route from Charlotte was RAP, but I could be wrong on distance.

MIA-MSP and DFW-YYC are both some of the very longest in the Eagle network.

From CLT it would be Republic, their 175s are EOW capable.

Price it cheaply enough and you can fill flights Fargo to Bangor in February. Pricing things (on average) cheaply isn't the goal.

AA must love Israel because they can fly a ton of widebodies there in these challenging times. TWA flew there for decades from JFK, sadly AA didn't continue those flights 20 years ago. JFK, MIA & DFW plus make quite a presence in TLV. Miami to TLV should have happened years ago.

From what i've heard, TLV is a big market for cargo. Lots and lots of pharma coming out of Israel these days. And lots of inbound cargo as well. As I said elsewhere, I am pretty confident in saying this will be a money maker.

At 6600 miles, this has to be one of AA's longer flights. I assume this will require two aircraft.

They actually operated LAX-CUN 4 or 5 years ago and had to drop it in late 2017. Why did they drop it and are now giving it another go?

Do TLV flights still have to leave from special gates with extra security? I haven't taken one in a long time.
