Looks like Cargojet will be operating the two remaining Amazon owned 76s and ATI will be operating the remaining unassigned CAM 76s.

Interesting. Here’s a source: https://www.freightwaves.com/news/cargo ... -in-canada

I’m curious if this is going to be intra-Canada or if they’re going to have cross border packages with Amazon’s US network?

The article says “within Canada” so I’d assume only in Canada. But not sure.

Good scoop. They were clearly going somewhere; interesting that they're going to Canada. The interesting change is that up until now, Amazon and non-Amazon stuff has been mixed on the cargo flights that Cargojet runs that include Amazon freight in Canada. If these are run under a CMI agreement, then that might not be the case. I guess it could be, but then why provide the airplane?

True, but the article takes special care to describe CVG as its “North American hub” so I think the ambiguity is important. Perhaps demand is high enough for direct Amazon flights from CVG to inject full plane loads into the Canadian distribution network.

Is this different from the April 1 news? https://www.bing.com/amp/s/finance.yaho ... 00889.html

Also do you mean the last 2 WestJet 767s? I didn’t think any of the DL frames were placed.

He says the two remaining Amazon owned 763s. I can't tell you what he means, because I am not he, but it is known that 2 of the 4 Westjet ones are going to ATI, on top of, most likely, the rest of the CAM leases to Amazon this year (total: 11 plus the 2 Westjet ones, of which 5 have been delivered, plus N503AZ is done with paint and in ILN). So...logical that what he means is the 2 ex-Westjet ones. But two DL ones are in conversion, too.

After a few days using the filters in Plane Finder, I was surprised that the total transponders hit 50 for Amazon worldwide about 1:00 PM PDT

Filters

Amazon Air B763 Matches 28 aircraft

Amazon Air B738 Matches 15 aircraft

Amazon Air (all) Matches 50 aircraft

Amazon Air B762 Matches 7 aircraft

Slightly off topic but.....Love the Cargojet livery. Its really nice up close, the photo doesn't do it justice.
On another note, I believe Cargojet has 2 or 3 aircraft from CAM.

Agreed. Classy. They actually lease 4 from CAM: C-FCCJ, C-GAJG, C-CXAJ and C-GOCJ, assuming that they haven't subsequently purchased any of those from CAM.

Looks like Amazon has added Sunday delivery in Puerto Rico via USPS, since I am currently in Puerto Rico and ordered an item for my grandfather, and one of my items shows a Sunday delivery date. USPS now seems to be the majority for Puerto Rico, mostly either Amazon Air or the Miami freight forwarders, with some Priority Mail. It has been a while since I got a UPS shipment to Puerto Rico now (The paid "Priority Shipping" upgrade might still be UPS Next Day Air).

With N714AX being at SBD on the new Amazon ramp since March 18 for training. Ground personnel being trained on GSE it looks like the Amazon facility will be operational soon. Any word on the timing the opening date?
Thanks

I heard it’s scheduled to open around the 23rd of April. I was told it’s going to be a BDL-SBD-JFK route for the ATI schedule. Not sure what the other carriers will be doing.

N393AN is about to depart for SNN shortly today (4/16/21). Expected to go to Amazon in May as N233AZ.

We should see N390AA out in about a month. That is expected to go to Amazon as N239AZ.

N881YV is wearing a fresh coat of white paint with a black tail and a small "operated by 21Air" decal on the nose. Halfway into a Cargojet scheme...
Hopefully N999YV is next as its paint job flakes off a little more every time I see it.

My recollection is that the one aircraft was bought by Cargojet (or leased?) and the other one was still owned by whomever owned it. Both still operated by 21Air. So that makes sense. Both run for DHL...correct?

Both 21Air aircraft had the world's most-hideous livery. One down, hopefully one to go.

Yep, both operating for DHL. When both of those started their current routes, I believe there was some concern about reliability or recent (at the time) engine maintenance, but neither of them have had any major issues that I know of.

Also, N317AZ looks to finally be making her first flight as an Amazon bird. Scheduled ILN-SEA.

We're almost at 7 months at MEX for N569AZ and N563AZ, and N521AZ has been at TLV for 7 months as well (the 3 remaining WestJet 763s). Not sure what the status is on those three, but 7 is certainly longer than usual, unless they're converted and Amazon is delaying delivery/conversion since they're not supposed to go into service for a few months if I recall? Certainly a bit longer than the usual turnaround at TLV, but I wonder if they got a late start at MEX and temp parked for a while there.

There's a CAM ship at TLV that went there like a week after 521AZ. It may be telling/interesting to see which comes out first.

Does anyone know the current status of N503AZ? It seems like Amazon are taking their awful load of time, getting this one into service.

What we've heard is that it's going to be operated by ATI starting in May. It came back from conversion, went to paint, came to ILN on 3/13/21, and is in conformity for ATI. I would assume that that's done by now, and it's just waiting to go into service when Amazon wants it.

Generally-speaking, converting and painting aircraft and running them through conformity is not a just-in-time endeavor, if one is smart. ATSG tends to plan to have aircraft sitting around waiting to deliver to Amazon, so if something unexpected happens with one, they can adjust and keep the customer happy.

N317AZ (formerly N376AN) just went into service for Amazon last night (and per MO11, was just formally dry-leased to Amazon), replacing N385AM (to be N221AZ, which had come from conversion and gone into service without being painted). The latter is now in paint. There had been a little shuffling of unpainted aircraft to account for the fact that N376AN took a little longer in maintenance at VQQ than anticipated. Things are now back essentially where they were expected to be.

Presumably, N221AZ and N503AZ will go into service in May, along with N393AN (to be N229AZ), which is just back from TLV.

Yes, a CAM purchase. Last one of the 20 retired AA B763 aircraft that CAM bought from Jetran.

Here is what I noticed for Puerto Rico shipments to my grandfather:

Those shipping from Central or Northern Florida or the southeastern United States will mostly use the Amazon Air flights out of TPA to USPS.

Those shipping from the Miami area will mainly use the freight fowarders out of Miami to USPS.

Those shipping from the Mid-Atlantic or Northeast will mainly use the Amazon Air flights out of RIC to USPS.

Those shipping from elsewhere are mostly now USPS Priority Mail. Haven't got UPS, International Bridge, or UPS-MI in a while now. I think possibly the paid Priority Shipping upgrade might still be UPS Next Day Air.

Lots of revisions of carrier-station assignments, for one, and apparently how it's all laid out.

Very true.

It's not top secret. You go to Amazon's website, you see how much widgets are, it tells you how much and when to expect them. It doesn't tell you where they are coming from, or how it will get to your house. All the public cares about is, "when will I have it?", not how it gets there.

If you send something via UPS or FedEx, they tell you when you need to drop it off for Next Day Air or Second Day Air, and they'll tell you the delivery parameters at the destination. They don't tell you what the flight schedule is or what hubs it will go through.

I work with/for entities that handle these flights. Even they aren't sure why the schedule isn't being produced as fast as previous updates.

This morning I made a stop at Whole Foods. I noticed that there was a UPS delivery truck parked in front of the store. I watched the driver exit the truck with 5 or so small packages, go to the Amazon delivery lockers in the lobby of the store and place each package in a locker.

What's interesting about this is that Amazon used UPS to move packages from one Amazon location (the warehouse the originated the shipments) to another Amazon location (the Whole Foods store). Amazon didn't use the 'in-house' Prime delivery system (planes and vans) to move this shipment. I'd note that Prime vans always deliver Amazon packages to my house.

Yup. Amazon Lockers are stocked by all sorts of carriers, UPS, USPS, Amazon Vans/Flex, and probably more. (I wouldn’t be surprised if Ontrac stops off there..)

While this Amazon locker was at Whole Foods, another Amazon company, I’m sure that the Whole Foods has little to do with the locker, I’m not sure what the advantage of managing the WF Lockers any differently than another locker.

I’d bet that those packages came from a FC that doesn’t have a connection to your area. And they probably came from 2 to 5 different FCs.

I’m in Seattle. Today I got two Amazon packages, one was delivered by Amazon the other was 2 day UPS. The Amazon package came out of the local Kent, WA FC. The 2 day package came out of a Phoenix, AZ FC. I’m guessing that there isn’t a direct connection, and/or it was just cheaper to let UPS handle it.

It appears Amazon has changed the designation for its CVG Amazon Air hub on its shipping labels. It looks like Amazon now prints "KHUB" on the labels instead of KCVG.

Interesting. Possibly a move to avoid confusion with the AMZ Fulfillment Centers in Hebron KY which are identified as CVG1, CVG2 and so?

I think KHUB vs KCVG is in prep for the move to their own facility at CVG. I'm assuming there will be some overlap and they'll need a way to differentiate between the DHL and their own facility.

I think the plan is to move all of the sorts from DHL to their own facility once it is completed. Its probably more of an issue on the ground side for routing trucks into the proper sort facility if they're going to run the DHL facility doing the day sort and their own facility doing the night sort.

It appears Amazon has changed the designation for its CVG Amazon Air hub on its shipping labels. It looks like Amazon now prints "KHUB" on the labels instead of KCVG.

I'm kinda curious how much longer Amazon is going to stick with just four letter codes sort of loosely based off of IACO/IATA codes for facilities. It worked in their 2000-2010 style of distribution of a few big fulfillment centers in a couple of states, but its getting strained with each fulfillment center and sorting facility each getting their own pseudo-IACO code.

Like one of the oddest things is theres a collection of facilities in Everett, Washington with the code DSE# (DSE4, DSE5) From what I can see KDSE isn't an IACO code, but DSE is an IATA code for Combolcha Airport in Ethiopia!

I'd be curious if its in the pipeline to write themselves out of this technical debt, by perhaps expanding the code to 8 or 16 characters. (They'd probably not use all of them, but if you're rewriting, it helps to give yourself some space.) This way you could have a code like KPAE-D4 (Everett, WA, Delivery 4.)
