Franz (COO) announced that both the leased (2nd hand) A350s and the whitetail 787s won’t get the LH product. It was rumoured that the 5 787s could be moved to another hub (basically OS or WK) once all LH ordered are delivered. This could fit with the refurbishment cycle in 4-6 years anyway. I expect similar with the additional 350s. They stay medium term (3-6years) and if they’ll stay permanent then they’ll get the new LH product then.

Thank you for your detailed information. I find it surprising LH Group are adding fleet now when a year ago they were busy shedding excess capacity and borders to majority part of the world are still closed. Let's not forget their Eurowings many misadventures have burnt much money. Also I find it weird LH Group is adding just one additional A359 particularly from PR. PR is looking for offloading two A359 as part of their restructuring. Is LH Group going to add more used aircraft?

Hard to imagine that LH are doing this just to get into the leasing business. On the other hand, how much work would it take to convert to plane to the LH configuration? I don't really get it either way.

It will join the FRA fleet. No cabin modification (seats).

From what I have heard the YCL-Seats will be swapped and the seat covers in CCL will be changed as well.

According to this thread (see post No.200), Lufthansa will take four ex-PAL A350s.

That would make a lot more sense than one or even just two orphaned aircraft. At least with this set up there would be four and probably 3 or 4 dedicated destinations uniquely served by this small subfleet.

PAL flies their A350 in a 30J/24M/241Y layout, not hugely dissimilar to the LH layout of 36 Business/21 Premium Economy/262 Economy. All the PAL seats do have direct aisle access and 33” pitch in Y, compared to the 2-2-2 LH product and 31” in Y. In many respects the PAL aircraft will be superior to LH’s own layout.

Some more rumours:
- 4x A350 will be leased in the near future, all ex PAL
- Some A350 will be based in FRA
- 5x A380 could come back instead of A346, based in Munich
- 5 further B787 white tails will be acquired
Source: https://www.aero.de/news-40225/Lufthans ... nchen.html
Idk where they get their information from, but they were the first ones to report that Cityline will operate the A321P2F, so they are quite credible.

The first one was ferried from MNL to MUC on delivery yesterday (RP-C3506). D-AIXP appears to be the first FRA A359.

Several A350s are currently based at FRA. But they don’t have a real „base“ there because all the crews come from MUC. This is expected to change.

Just to nitpick about credibility, just because they got 1 thing right it doesn't make a source 100% credible then again that's rare to find these days

Anyone know which LH B748/Reg will operate the FRA-PMI-FRA flights? 1 particular bird or a few of them?

Some sources are now saying the A380s may be swapped out for the 5 reactivated A346s but this situation is so fluid things could change. The A380s may or may not come back and until the engines are fired up its all talk externally anyways

Demand I'm guessing. The 744 isn't a new subfleet but I get what you're saying. Only LH has these answers. Easy to reactivate and get pilots current

I'm also guessing the 748s can be reactivated more easily (more short-term storage) than the 744s that were long-term storage at best (retired at worst). If my theory is right, the 748s probably come out of storage later, they just need the process to get started on the 744s sooner.

So you mean the A346 will be stored and the A380 will be brought back? Dang, I was hoping for the 346s and I do hope they also come out of storage, at least temporarily.

Any signs that Boeing begins to prepare the first 787 for LH soon? With all the trouble with the FAA I fear that we will not see the first one at the end of 2021 as planned.

This is incorrect, that image was taken several months ago, LN887 will not be the first, nor registered D-ABPA.

LN905 will be D-ABPA
LN913 will be D-ABPB
LN887 will be D-ABPC
LN893 will be D-ABPD
LN898 will be D-ABPE

Also, whilst I am here, It is now rumoured that Austrian will start taking delivery for there rumoured 787 in Q2 of 2022, ready for the summer season.

Hey, I’m the one that took the photo lol. OMAA is correct, I took that photo back in March 13. When I visited VCV last Saturday (July 10), there were no preparations going on with any of the aforementioned aircraft, nor the NTU Norwegian jets headed to Austrian.

Interesting to see that LN887 will not be the first Lufthansa 789, as there were many rumors saying it would be. Glad I didn’t say that specifically in my post (said ‘one of the five’).

@OMAAbound Thank you for the revision. Kind of weird some website list Line 887 as the first B787 for LH.

@VCVSpotter Small world indeed. I am a great fan of your IG! :) Well, to be honest fleet planning within LH Group or any airline is quite fluid at the moment as the pandemic bore down over the many months since COVID-19 started. Hence we will not know what will really happened in next few months with LH Group.

Definitely true that fleet planning these days changes on a seemingly weekly basis, will be interesting to see where all the pieces fall in a few months regarding all of these rumors with 789/A359/744/A346/A388.

Lufthansa targets 60-70% of pre-pandemic passenger numbers volume by year-end. The airline and its subsidiaries are using 520 aircraft, compared with roughly 800 before the crisis.

Actually, the intra-European widebody flights are scheduled to cater to the increased tourism demand from Germany to southern Europe. https://www.lufthansagroup.com/de/newsr ... a-ein.html [German]

Apparently, today's 747 flight to PMI had every seat filled.

Same at LX, 77W’s are deployed to PMI,ATH and also OPO.
OS sends thwir 777’s to HER. These are althe places where they can fill the seats to. So better fly them than have them hanging around their hubs

That EW Discover A330 has racoon windows. Is that a NEO or did they just paint one of their CEOs like that and created a "fake NEO" ?

Not sure why you would consider it "fake NEO", as it is just a bit of livery. Look at Air Canada - they have even painted 787s with a racoon mask.
Anyway, its pure and simple A330-200s that received their mask as part of the livery.

Any signs that Boeing begins to prepare the first 787 for LH soon? With all the trouble with the FAA I fear that we will not see the first one at the end of 2021 as planned.

According this is IG poster Line 887 is now in Boeing hangar at VCV for rework and maintenance. This will be LH's D-ABPA.

Well the Airbus 'P' reg sequence didn't stay out of use for long...

Some official/interesting numbers.

Zero 747s listed as temporarily decommissioned (3 retired since 2019, plus 2 more scheduled to retire).

Before the fleet page was taken down it showed 3 744s being reactivated

Not sure why you would consider it "fake NEO", as it is just a bit of livery. Look at Air Canada - they have even painted 787s with a racoon mask.

Chances are that "bit of livery" was inspired by the mask around the A330neos cockpit windows, it's the exact same design, so calling it a "fake NEO" is not far off the mark there.

And Air Canada's mask is supposed to represent indigenous birds of Canada. Don't know where you are getting your racoon from.

While we are at it, the reasons for the masks on the A350s and A330neos are explained here:

If you think that a "bit of livery" is the defining characteristics of the NEO rather than engines, wings, wingtips, then, well. Okay.
