I wonder when they will send their A380 to USA, it seems 77W will serve all North American stations at least for the first half of 2021

So with Qatar setting up at YYZ (with a Star Alliance rival AC codeshare!) and SEA, on top of Turkish Airlines coming to YVR (eventually...), can we assume Emirates will never fly to YVR?

Edit: Saw the first page, and edited appropriately. Does Seattle have enough demand for both EK and QR? And what are the most popular connecting destinations for customers from SEA, anyway?

Putting my observation from 2012 onwards as i travel this route atleast once a year. When EK started the SEA route in 2012 there would be a big chunk of pax connecting to DEL bound for north India. One could think that the flight was bound for ATQ!!

However over the years as Amazon started to expand & hire software enginners in the 000s (which also resulted in sharp appreciation of SEA property market) the pax mix changed to more connections from HYD and BLR.

EK201 to JFK is currently scheduled to revert back to the A380 on March 27th. Though I wouldn't hold my breath. Given the additional hurdles for US travel lately, it very well may be pushed back.

QR is more likely to add YVR-DOH before EK gets to add YVR-DXB. Difference is Qatar has only one airline, UAE has two airlines.

During Tim Clarks interview with CAPA, Sir Tim mentioned that they 50 A350s on order and a similar number of B787s on order.

Does that mean that the B787 order has increased from 30 to 50?

There's been some chatters in the aviation industry that suggest Emirates might convert more B777X to B787 just like they did before. They estimated around 30 - 50 Orders could be converted to B787.

they need to. That 787 will help them recover much faster than the 77X will.

Interesting divert for EK201 DXB-JFK B773 A6-EQJ on Sunday February 21st, 2021.

Before starting the TATL crossing a suspected fuel leak was observed and after some holding over the North Sea east of Edinburgh, the aircraft diverted to AMS:

After a 2,5 hrs ground stop the flight continued to JFK:

Emirates A380 returning to connect several cities

Fri Mar 12, 2021 4:22 pm

Seems that Emirates will restart some routes with the A380. Will this be the second life for the giant or not? What do you think?

Anything more than a month out is subject to change. And until there's widespread vaccination globally coupled with reopened borders, flying the A380 on any route is just a recipe for burning cash. If you need to fly cargo and have a bunch of 77Ws like EK, then you should use those -- they're better-suited for the job with lower fuel burn.

I think there will be a place for EKs A380s assuming air travel demand returns, but certainly not a large enough niche to support a fleet of 100+ frames. Maybe a few dozen, up to 50.

Now they fly 3 weekly 777s. The plan is a 4th weekly 777 from end of March, a fifth 777 from early July and one daily A380 from end of October.
As always nowadays changes are highly possible ...

It started in 2003 before the first 77W arrived in 2005. The AKL tag became DXB-BNE-AKL on an A345 around 2008/09 iirc. SIN-BNE went 77W probably around the same time.

EK is bringing back the A380 to LHR, FRA, and YYZ effective May 1. JFK set to resume from June 1.

As of today, 20/117 A380s are back flying. Albeit, at very infrequent use for most of the frames.

I don’t think the above date is correct. Today is May 01, launching the route in 18 days without an official announcement and marketing, might work for LCC carriers who launch new routes with not enough lead time. Maybe Emirates will launch the route in June or July.

Great move. Lessor picks up part / all of the cost - preserves revenue stream. EK increases capacity and usability.

EA powered, so EK correctly assuming lots of low cost used engines and new parts will be available. Given the reduction in the active global fleet, a fair assumption.

Watch other lessors offer similar deals on A380's and 777's fitted with first class.

From the State of Berlin? They quite often have stated their inclination for a change in the bilateral. However, it’s a federal and not a state topic.
