Wizz orders 102 aircraft plus options.

Including 27 more XLR! Bringing the total order of XLR to 47!! Looks like they identified demand for long-haul flights.

As far as I see it, most of the XLR flights gonna be from Abu Dhabi. From there to Western Europe, South Eastern Asia and China.
Connecting India with Central&Eastern Europe and Italy
Some from London Gatwick and Budapest.
At least one route between Kazakhstan and Germany as there are quite a lot Kazakh people in Germany.
Possibly from Ukraine and the Caucasus, if establishing a subsidiary there

Air Arabia Abu Dhabi now also flies to New Delhi. It really cannot be difficult to set up new routes from the UAE to India. Varadi says: "we are working hard on getting to the subcontinent. [...] it's just a matter of time and we will get there."

He said also flying to the CIS. The only CIS countries not operated yet are Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Varadi didn't want to do any actual comments about a takeover of Easyjet ^^

Half of the new aircraft orders is going to Central&Eastern Europe. And a quarter respectively to Western Europe and 'into new markets going east'!

I get that it is easy for 3L to launch AUH-India to connect the dots on already-existing stations, in the same way that 5W heading to the same in Eastern Europe where W6 already has a presence. Playing the same game, albeit in different directions. I too wonder though if 5W are sticking to their (mostly) standard model of 2 or 3 a weeks, then the likes of LKO, PNQ, GOI, JAI, SKT etc in the Indian sub-continent that are not served from AUH might a good place to start. Anyway, this is based on zero evidence or fact, just an idea ;)

It feels like a few months since we have seen a new Wizz base announcement. I wonder how many of the route/base announcement in the past 2 years have survived or even been launched.

Starting from June 2nd, Wizz Air will introduce three weekly BEG-FCO. They will compete directly against JU and ITA which announced its return to BEG from August.

Wizz Air operated this route some 10 years ago and it failed. Hopefully this time around they have more luck.

Flights are already in the system.

9W expects now to start flights to Indian subcontinent in 2022:

"We have all the approvals from the UAE side, and now we're in the middle of the process of getting regulatory approvals from the subcontinent countries. It's up to the destination markets to approve that. All the bilateral services agreements are in place. It is a matter of finalizing documentary and regulatory approvals, and then we are good to go there as well. We will see that happen sometime in 2022," said Kees Van Schaick, managing director of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi."

Mentioned are subcontinent countries.

"Kees Van Schaick said the airline is also seeking approval to start a bus service between Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates to ease connectivity for ease of its passengers."

That would be nice. There is also a bus service needed between AUH and Dubai after midnight.

For 9W "around five aircraft will be added every year". Okay, then in 20 years there gonna 100 aircraft for 9W ^^

It looks like you need to find that out by yourself ;)

I remember I wrote the new recent bases into this thread somewhere. I think there was also a Simpleflying article about it. New bases are also announced on the WizzAir website in the news section. The last base opening was announced in October (Venice Marco Polo). The listed current bases should be up to date on the Wizz Wikipedia page.

The start of the St. Petersburg base was postponed to March 2022. The Dortmund base was shut down recently.

9W = 5W

This will be the new Wizz XLR seat:

The manufacturer describes it as "sleek and stylish in its all-Italian way". Doesn't look bad.

TBH - it looks no different to my untrained eye to the standard seat on any of Wizz's existing fleet. All about squeezing the maximum number of fare paying pax into an aluminium tube - same thing as Wizz has been doing for years. If anything, the seat looks to be a bit thin (i.e. save maybe 1 or 2 cm, so that Wizz can add an extra row of seats somewhere - which usually translates as minimal padding and uncomfortable after a few hours. The sleek-and-stylish all-Italian description is nothing more than marketing fluff for those who fly rarely

The comfort cannot be judged from seeing the pictures. As the seats are made for the XLR, we gonna see how comfy they are.

Wizz won't add more seat rows. The XLR will have the same amount of seats as the A321neo.

Air Serbia responds to Wizz Air launching BEG-FCO. Next month they are increasing flights from 2 to 3 weekly and then from June they are going daily. If I had to bet on someone on this route then it would be JU. Wizz already tried Rome and failed (so did easyJet) and Wizz did lose against JU in Oslo and Larnaca. They only managed to beat JU in Malta.

5W to launch AUH-KRR in Feb 22.
http://wam.ae/en/details/1395303002639

No competition on this route, or even to the rest of the UAE. Also adds a new dot on the Wizz destination map!

Any further info on what the story is with their sole A330 Cargo edition?

The Hungarian government bought a former QR cargo plane, and Wizzair is operating it on behalf of the government for cargo / medical transports.

It was bought a year ago (October 2020) but operated only a few actual medical cargo flights. The majority (90%) of the "China shuttle" was done by that time by Wizz A321s with fuel stops back and forth. The 330 was on ground for months on end, in the last three months the only cargo flight it did was a single BUD-ACC-KGL-BUD flight transporting vaccines donated by the Hungarian government. It's scheduled to fly to Tunis today (the same reason?).

On 4 February Wizzair opens KRK-DXB-KRK two weekly. I was wrong thinking that flying to AUH from a nearby KTW will prevent them from doing this.

At the same time DXB is a route that sees the biggest increase in WAW: when compared to 2021 summer season, +892 movements (now 1,362 movements) and +225,528 seats (Emirates, LOT, flyDubai).

AUH-KTW-AUH on 5W was announced but before it started was replaced with KTW-DXB-KTW on W6 (this was also the same with AUH-BUD-AUH on 5W being replaced with BUD-DXB-BUD on W6, among other routes).

Both airlines are already selling flights via their website.

Further schedules probably haven't been loaded yet. Or maybe it's a winter seasonal route, after all demand to the UAE is lower in the summer when it's way too hot there.

That's one of the 250 routes "only" suspended for January-March. The 84 routes cancelled are on top of that.
