Do you really think WN is worried about G4? I'm not a fan of either carrier, but common.

I'm sorry but Allegiant will still offer more point to points to VPS from airports outside Southwest's footprint. Take the 3x weekly from XNA to VPS. Why do I want to drive to Tulsa and then connect? Allegiant hit a homerun there. I might think about it is WN actually services XNA and the connection time was half decent in BNA or ATL due to the luggage allowance.

Full WN staffed station.

PNS

Above the wing WN staff. Below I believe is still 3ed party contact Ramp and Ops.

Well it certainly isn't the FL panhandle catchment area that they are concerned with. that is fairly irrelevant IMO. Concern is more with grabbing out of towners and taking them down and back home. I am a bit amazed STL isn't getting a VPS nonstop.

G4 is running 13 flights a week in the summer BLV-VPS. I can't imagine STL-VPS isn't added on WN for summer, if not only weekend only. Plenty of demand especially if you add in connections on WN. I do get the will it eat into ECP/PNS thoughts though. I know plenty of people who fly to those two and drive over to Destin.

But I also am surprised we don't have STL-SRQ on WN yet either.

Service to FAT doesn't even begin until April 25, so it would seem unlikely.

True but SRQ got more before flights even started there I would think it’s depends on what’s routes they are planing to add there

I have been waiting for that announcement, but it's still a bit of an extra wait yet. Perhaps they have been focusing on finding ways to put people on planes in the near term rather than working on extensions.

I'm in awe of the capacity that WN and others are throwing at the new leisure markets searching for cash. It will be interesting to see how much sticks when per flight yield starts to matter again for sustainability.

True...in 2019 WN flew Saturday (plus Sunday in a few cases) only service from PNS to DEN, STL, AUS, MCI, MDW). I did notice in the recent schedule update that the Planned Saturday only DCA-PNS starting in April was shifted to BWI. This makes a lot more sense. Plus the ATL-PNS route was extended daily through the entire summer.

I’ve never understood why WN can’t make MDW-PNS work daily during high season.

Only a limited number of the -800 fleet is ETOPS certified. Theres a specific group of tail numbers in the ETOPS fleet, 8301-8329. (If I remember correctly... there may be a couple in that group that aren't ETOPS. I've been off for quite some time and don't have the ability to look and verify till I go back, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

That's an incredibly short booking window, April 22-Aug 16 is only a little over 100 days.

Surprised they wouldn't publish earlier, most carriers already have their fall schedules out, 2 months from now WN will be way behind.

At least this way:
a) Their initial fall schedule will likely be more accurate than everyone else
b) They'll likely announce a large amount of new routes given this extension would likely cover 2 normal ones
b) i) The extension is the same date as their Q1 earnings call, I am sure that is not a coincidence....

Interesting perspective! I concur it’s such a short booking window that it will be interesting to see what they release at that time.

There was a separate thread about it but it disappeared. It’s weird that we’re allowed to have a separate thread about NK adding MKE but we have to bury discussion of WN adding BZN and VPS in the WN Fleet/Network thread

If it’s true, it sounds worthy of its own thread, instead of sifting through this generic Southwest thread. BZN would be interesting...I suppose we could speculate the frequency and destinations.

There were quite a few complaints in the thread on why it should have a standalone topic. I'm somewhat surprised it took over two days for someone to create a thread on BZN/VPS.

Anyways, here's Southwest's press release on BZN: https://www.swamedia.com/releases/relea ... -low-as-39

Will the next schedule release lots of new routes I’m guessing for summer to the fall since it’s not tell April six and it will probably be extending the schedule at least tell December ?

I agree on BZN-SAN being Saturday only, if at all.

If WN adds new routes from BZN, they will likely be either OAK, SMF, HOU, MDW, PHX, LAX/SNA

BWI-BZN maybe summer seasonal? But MDW can serve the east coast just as well as BWI can with the exception of only a few airports.

BZN-BNA seems more likely than BWI just because G4 is serving BNA-BZN and WN is starting to show signs of reacting to G4 (eg MDW-VPS)

Any route they don’t already compete on. G4 flies so many routes that there is NUMEROUS routes. Just out of VSP, WN could add AUS STL BOS CVG CLE CMH DSM GRR IND MCI LIT SDF MEM LGA ISP OKC OMA PIT TUL and ICT. Out of SRQ, WN could add BOS STL CVG CLE CMH CLT DSM GRR IND SDF PIT and RIC.

Still can’t believe they haven’t added DAB during all of this.

DAB is a smaller air market than even the smallest of ECP/VPS/PNS. In recent history it hasn't had much more than 4-5x DL (but all mainline, and sometimes as large as 757), and 4-5 RJs AA to CLT. BWI? MDW? IMHO it would be tough to avg 7-10 flights a day year-round to justify a new station.

VPS has DL to ATL and is not all mainline, in fact all but one flight today are RJs. They have UA and AA. G4 is the game changer for them but otherwise just...I dunno VPS over DAB just seems weird since it’s right in the middle of two small WN markets already. At least MCO wouldn’t be hurt by DAB. I think they’re going to cannibalize themselves here.

Makes no sense. The NK announcement thread for MKE is still up and active but now we have to filter through these super threads. I’ll never get it.

This is exactly why that should be its own thread. There's too much info to sift through for big things like that.

If it’s true, it sounds worthy of its own thread, instead of sifting through this generic Southwest thread. BZN would be interesting...I suppose we could speculate the frequency and destinations.

There was a separate thread about it but it disappeared. It’s weird that we’re allowed to have a separate thread about NK adding MKE but we have to bury discussion of WN adding BZN and VPS in the WN Fleet/Network thread

Lets make a few things clear

1. Discussion of Site Related matters gets discussed in the Site Related forum. This includes discussion moderation and things around general threads. The 4 users I am quoting let me make it clear your comments are off topic and I would be justified in deleting your posts. Alternatively you can email us at [email protected] for an explanation

2. As stated in the rules if you are posting factual information provide a source along with some commentary, this applies to both starting a new topic and posting in an existing topic. We also expect any new topic that is started for the user who opens it to put in a little effort in constructing something to discuss about, just posting a few words with no source will get the thread deleted

3. The moderators are not against having everything discussed in these larger threads. Specific Route announcements can exist separate to the general thread providing they are within the rules of this site. In this case they werent and the appropriate action was taken

So now get back and discuss the topic

Will the next schedule release lots of new routes I’m guessing for summer to the fall since it’s not tell April six and it will probably be extending the schedule at least tell December ?

Extension is through Nov 6. Subject to change

I’m surprised it wouldn’t be through December since it will be two extensions in one

Agree.

Here’s the link of course:

Are you referencing the re-introduction of the MAX8 to the fleet? If so, I believe it's the fact they need to re-train ALL pilots on it before they can. AA has already done this and thus is flying the MAX8 now.

I don't know if that soon but I would guess by the end of the year.
