A logical decision there. You can get more out of LAS than PHX at an identical trip cost.

PHX has an over kill of service.
I honestly thought WN would have added LAS long before PHX when they launched PSP.

MLI would be way out in left field for WN, even with the prior service on Airtran. It ranked #156 in enplanements in 2019.

Of course WN isn't going to fold to AA. Why would the most financially secure airline fold to the least financially secure airline in an airport where it serves the most destination and have the greatest market share?

I'd be surprised if more than half of those routes AA announced will still be around by next summer.

I will be using that PSP to LAS flight, as I hate that drive and to drive to ONT is a little far.

Bring on DAB!!! BTV I think was dropped after the FL merger, FL flew to DAB for a bit too. JAC makes perfect sense and the 73G is a perfect high altitude aircraft.

FL only flew to BTV in 2009 so that was dropped pre-merger/acquisition.

I believe AUS-SMF isn't new, and they also ran AUS-SLC during the holidays

I flew AUS-SMF on a WN MAX once. Still good to see any route coming back!

MLI isn’t far fetched at all. WN is incredibly strong in the Midwest and MLI geographically is perfect to pull from both Eastern Iowa and West Central Illinois. I could see a flight to STL, DEN, MDW, PHX, and LAS.

It should be Spirit. "Something BIG is coming" says their Facebook post.

BIG as in Spirit's Big Front Seat. I believe SDF Airport did a similar "BIG" teaser when announcing Spirit.

That’s a Southwest Passenger seat taken from a Southwest Advertisement in the teaser picture on the Quad City Airport Facebook page. I strongly suspect it’s Southwest. I guess we will all find out on March 30th.

WN launching MYR with 10 cities

Thu Mar 25, 2021 5:50 pm

https://www.wmbfnews.com/2021/03/25/sou ... ch-cities/

WN is coming in to MYR with a bang...

5/23/2021 — MYR - BWI, MDW, BNA
5/29 — + DAL, PIT
6/6 — + ATL, CMH, IND, MCI, STL

Quite a big start, which makes it deserving of it’s own thread.

That makes sense, although I suppose a 3 PM announcement breaks the pattern of Southwest’s new route announcements from the past year or so.

And changing their profile pic to a red-ish color somewhat conflicts with Spirit.

I didn't say it was impossible, just that it would be out in left field because (a) it doesn't fit the profile of almost all of the markets added by WN in the last year, and (b) there are quite a few bigger airports that don't yet have WN service ahead of MLI on that list of enplanements.

Also, the seat image on the announcement page is a stock photo image: https://www.shutterstock.com/image-phot ... -461932165

Yeah....also why would they announce a new airport the day before their schedule extension?

They also haven't done an announcement like that for any other new airport they have opened.

The fact that it's such a large initial launch makes me think this is their retaliation against all the adds that NK made against them.

Interesting.... I would imagine that allot of folks who live in Dallas fly down to HRL (Harligen) to go to South Padre Island to enjoy the beach. Even so, DAL will get connecting traffice to get to MYR now and possible bait a few Texans to Myrtle Beach now. That's allot of routes for a new location. I wonder how seasonal they will be?

This is mostly true. OAK wIll be completely flipped to all ETOPS trained crew. LAS won't be completely 50/50 on ETOPS, but a large chunk will be in the upcoming bid. LAX is already 100% ETOPS trained pilots.

Wait I’m wondering what does 100 etops certified mean and if they are doing LAX at 50 percent etops are they going to start flying to Hawaii from there ?

Based on the TPG article I read - seems like everything except STL and MCI is at least 5x weekly (Tue/Wed usually not served from the “non-hub” airports... if that’s the best way to describe it). STL and MCI are weekend only

DAB has one big barrier that MYR doesn't - leakage to nearby MCO. I live in DAB now and the level of service MCO offers will continue to be DAB's weakness. My family lives in MYR and I worked at the airport for 2 years and it's the busiest airport (atleast in the summer) in the area, so it doesn't suffer from as much leakage (CHS definitely siphons some traffic, but I've seen more leakage from CHS to MYR than vice versa).

I'll keep my fingers crossed for WN in Daytona, but I'm not holding my breathe for now.

ACY would be cool. When I was with FL before becoming part of WN we flew to ACY from ATL. I believe ACY is or was expanding. I wouldn't mind a BWI, or DCA-ACY service. Since NK doesn't do Miami, we, WN could do MIA-ACY. ACY would be convenient for the ever growing South Jersey area. Used to be once you left Philly on the way to AC, it was cows, fortune tellers and old school mom and pop business till you got to Pleasantville (5 miles west of ACY). Now, its nonstop suburbia from PHL to ACY. . Plus ACY service at least during the Summer would draw to and from the Wildwoods and Cape May markets.

I'm wondering if we will ever fly into Branson, MI or DSM.

I think a lot of folks don't realize how relatively isolated MYR is because they think of the FLL-PBI-MLB-DAB-JAX-BQK-SAV-HHH corridor where everything is pretty close together and, more importantly, connected by 6+ lane Interstate 95. The South Carolina coast isn't like that, and ILM - the next closest airport to a good chunk of Myrtle Beach - doesn't exactly have scads of service either.

A rumor that’s gaining momentum is WN will be announcing SGU and IDA soon. The SGU airport manager also made some comments in last months video conference update that eluded to the rumors as well.

Now, its nonstop suburbia from PHL to ACY. . Plus ACY service at least during the Summer would draw to and from the Wildwoods and Cape May markets.

I'm wondering if we will ever fly into Branson, MI or DSM.

IDA? WN has been super ambitious over the last year, but that might be the craziest. That place is tiny.

Myrtle Beach is known for their golf resorts as much as their beaches.

ACY would be cool. When I was with FL before becoming part of WN we flew to ACY from ATL.

I don't recall AirTran flying to ACY - where was the service from? I know they had quite a few flights to/from PHL.

If I had to guess WN's next beach destination.....Mobile? Gulfport's too close to Jackson and New Orleans plus it's a bit on the small side. I could see a 4 flight a day Mobile station working....say 2x each to BNA and HOU. or maybe an ATL flight instead of one of the BNA turns.

AFAIK WN hasn't dropped DSM. Tough to say if WN would ever return to BKG. Branson pretty much fits the bill of a leisure market which should work during Covid, but it's definitely a drive-to market for most visitors. Maybe they'd end up trying SGF instead.

Well maybe it is in place of JAC since it is so busy LOL. I cant see WN at IDA either. If they do that then do Cody,WY and have Yellowstone covered LOL!

SGF is interesting. 3-ish hours to the nearest WN stations, some business demand, and some leisure demand to Branson. But I wonder if XNA, which has stronger business demand but isn't as associated with Branson, is the more sensible add in that neck of the woods. It probably doesn't make sense for them to to be in both SGF and XNA.

[quote="TerminalD"][quote="zippyjet"]ACY would be cool. My mistake. Maybe expand DSM service.

I believe we flew to ACY around 2009/2010 to ATL only.
