Forgive me for not following the thread closely, but the planned BNA growth with additional gates...that sounds like a lot of growth and connecting/hub activity potential throughout the deep south, Florida and the Midwest.
Not just in frequency increases or adds to existing WN stations, but whole new cities that might not have been considered before.
WN re-adding BNA-GSP nonstop service might be a possibility with the additional connecting opportunities that are now there at BNA with the BNA-BUR/ORD/DAL/IAH/MKE/MSP/OKC/SNA/SLC/SJC adds that had been made by WN in the last 7 years.
An article from the GoUpstate.com website (which can be found at https://www.goupstate.com/article/NC/20131219/News/605148046/SJ
) said that "Southwest said about 50 percent of passengers using the Nashville [to GSP] flight are actually connecting to other flights for travel destinations beyond the Nashville hub. The change will give passengers departing from GSP greater travel options, the company said."
The approximate percentage of O&D and connecting passengers on WN BNA-GSP in 2013 based on the DOT Consumer Airfare Report and DOT T-100 data was 32.75% O&D and 67.25% connecting.
While WN had some connecting traffic on GSP-BWI/MDW/HOU nonstop flights in 2013, the PDEW's were higher on GSP-BWI/MDW/HOU on WN than on GSP-BNA on WN in 2013.
WN would also probably be willing to carry a higher percentage of connecting passengers on BNA-GSP than it did 8 years ago as WN carried an even higher percentage of connecting passengers on GSP-ATL in the last 5 years than it did on the GSP-BWI/MDW/HOU/BNA routes as over 98.6% of the passengers on WN ATL-GSP nonstop flights in 2019 were connecting to other destinations.
WN is probably more likely to re-add GSP-MDW than GSP-BNA since
(a) there are more connecting opportunities available through MDW on WN than available through BNA on WN,
(b) most of the destinations that WN serves nonstop from BNA but not ATL already have nonstop service to MDW on WN,
(c) WN carried more O&D passengers per day on GSP-MDW than on GSP-BNA in 2013, and
(d) WN able to connect passengers to BNA from GSP through ATL after adding BNA-ATL nonstop service in 2018.
