Hi, Canarian Airways seems to be no longer around - ahead of launch the new name changed to "LATTITUDE HUB - THE CANARIAN AIRLINE"... :loco:

Not very professional to have the English section full of Lorem Ipsum placeholders neither...

Seems yet another trading name change, Lattitude Hub - WHERE CANARIAS BEGINS... Hopefully this is the final version, I am already confused. :spin:

British Airways City Flyer seem to have cancelled their summer seasonal London City - San Sebastian for 2021. Maybe they will return in 2022

They seem very keen on that strategy of connecting Asia to South America, but honestly, I don't see EK, QR or even TK leaving South America after covid, and there will be no way to compete agains them.

IB announces extra capacity (from 2x/w to 3x/w) to MLE due to good response in demand for their seasonal service to Maldives.

https://twitter.com/novedadesaereas/sta ... 90884?s=20

They also confirmed plans for increasing Panama up to 6x/w (was daily before corona), and 11x/w to SDQ (more seats available than ever before)

EK, TK, QR and ET all serve the main LATAM markets. IB on the other hand serves many markets that would require 2-3 stops + getting visa’s possibly. This is a big plus and market that they can be the leader in which no one has done up until now. The question is which markets have the most demand from Latam to Asia.

Correct. I don't see much demand flying Asia to.... anywhere in Latin America where EK/QR/TK do/did not fly (GRU, EZE, GIG, SCL, PTY, CCS, BOG were all served pre-covid...). Turkish is relatively very present in the region, and to be honest, IB product to Asia isn't too great to be a good competitor. Plus they lack of a good geo position in order to offer efficient connections EU-Asia. Pretty much anywhere in Europe (except Portugal) needs a detour to head to Asia if you fly through MAD.

We'll see...

Don't forget AF + KLM - they have a massive Asian network and a very good Latam one too (IB has only a good Latam network, but their Asian one is pretty much zero). AF+KLM probably hold the Gold medal in the Latam-Asia connections.

------------------------

Unless IB changes dramatically, I do not see them competing on the Latam+Asia market. They can't even compete with KLM, AF or LH (check our how many frequencies IB flies between MAD and AMS, CDG, FRA) vs KLM, AF or LH - if they can't compete on those short haul markets, then I do not see them competing especially with AF and KLM on the LATAM-Asia market.

------------------------

I do wonder as well where is IB+UX going to send the planes - a few days ago IB CEO said they would aim for 160-170 planes. LOL.

MAD is great for LATAM and core US markets - but aside from that, not great. They have tried a few times with Africa and failed badly (I doubt they are going to try again); and for Asia, with only Shanghai and Tokyo, no new markets ever since (Shanghai launched S16 and Tokyo W16) - it's not a good reflection of "we want to grow in Asia" - Iberia Peninsula to Asia great, but everything else is an important backtracking.

There has been news in the press of Andorra Airlines starting routes from La Seu d'Urgell to Madrid and Palma
https://www.lugaresdenieve.com/noticia/ ... 0-de-junio

In March 2018, I flew LEU-MAD with another airline - fantastic experience as an avgeek, being one of just 3 pax in a Citation (a normal 19-seater chartered with TwinJet was cancelled because it had too many seats and cost too much). This makes me wonder if there is really much demand at La Seu airport

Does anyone have some info on whether this will *really* happen ? How to book ? Etc..

Amazing to think that if this was to materialise, Catalonia would have 5 airports with scheduled flights. I wonder if a hypothetical LEU-PMI would have any impact on the ILD-PMI route which Air Nostrum operates year-round. Does anyone know if those new routes by Andorra Airlines will be subsidised in any way by the Andorran Govt? And if Air Nostrum's Lleida-Palma route is subsidised? Thanks in advanced!

I guess bookings will open on the website once the airline is ready, however I believe they should have already been opened if the hypothetical launch date is June the 10th...

Which airline did you fly with? AFAIK, not only Andorra Airlines will start operations, but another company CieloFly as well - unfortunately, I have no information about this new airline than this: https://aeronewsx.com/exclusive-start-u ... s-andorra/

In other news, courtesy of skyliner-aviation, Aura Airlines ferried A320 EC-NMY for wet lease to Caracas... Any more information available which airline will take up the Airbus?

There wasn't really an *airline* - more an air taxi company. El Teu Soci Aeri www.tsa.ad, I think. Aircraft was S5-BBG which FR24 shows to be a regular (based ?) at LEU

Etihad will be launching flights from Abu Dhabi to Malaga this summer. Flights will be operated 2x week with B789. Huge news for Malaga as Qatar Airways also announced its return to the Spanish city a few weeks ago. Malaga is slowly becoming the third intercontinental gateway in Spain after Madrid and Barcelona.

No opinion, just the news? I was hoping to find your view on this move, since you are quite a (justified) fan of the rational use of SCQ to serve the whole region and not just one or the other corner ;-)

What is weird is that now Malaga has flights to Abu Dhabi (Etihad), Doha (Qatar), Bahrain (Gulf Air), Kuwait (Kuwait Airways), Jeddah and Riyadh (Saudia) but it doesn't have flights to the biggest GCC market: Dubai.

I doubt there is any other place in Europe with flights to so many GCC airports but no Dubai. On the other hand, a lot of that demand is local but the transfer market to Asia is not that big.

And don't forget Turkish to IST+connections. Turkey is not the same, I know, but TK are probably serving the same market Emirates could serve.
Had Emirates been the first to come to AGP, they would have been able to offer lots of connections to their neighbouring countries and beyond. Now the market looks a bit crowded. Unbelievable that even EY beat them to AGP. EK should probably start looking at Valencia or Bilbao.

Iberia remains committed with PVG and NRT, and Sanchez Prieto, IB CEO, announces that the airline works in launching Seoul once demand recovers.

I am not sure why IB is so keen on connecting Asia to South America via MAD. They must have done the numbers and saw an opportunity but I am not sure IB's product is good enough to compete with the enormous competence which EU-Asia had pre-covid, which eventually will come back at some point and will make things very hard for IB to compete there.

I don't think the aim is to act as a connecting hub between Latin America and Asia, but to simply expand a market in which IB has a marginal presence.

Geographically speaking, Europe is not the most ideal point for connections between those regions, though some passengers might not find an inconvenience regarding that matter.

Once COVID-19 is finally over, with the announcement of new routes in Asia, the correct price, a decent quality service and a strong commercial strategy, IB might stand a good chance of competing in Asia. Though some of those requirements are not fully met by the airline at this point.

Sadly, this is pretty much meaningless. This was "said" during the official South Korea Presidential visit to Spain.

"When the appropriate circumstances arise, they will launch the route", which in Spanish means I'll buy myself a Ferrari whenever the appropiate circumstance arise - which could be tomorrow (extremely unlikely) or in 10 years.

Taking into account that South Korea is a SkyTeam and StarAlliance dominated market - seeing how BA failed with that route (they've recently permanently cancelled the route - meaning they are not flying to Seoul in the near term), I really really doubt IB has "good" numbers for such a route.

Lattitude stops flying until the fall season only after a week of "operations" from their hub at TFS. Not really surprising.

18,000 Furloughs this fall between Iberia, Air Europa and Vueling. I feel so bad for these professionals. I was able to fly to Spain this summer and the staff was very attentive. I do have to admit that it was a pleasure traveling through empty terminals but at the same time cant help but to feel bad for my country

Does anyone have an update on IB new uniforms? They were supposed to start being rolled out right before the pandemic hit. I was never crazy about the designs that I saw but maybe I would once I would see them in person. I just love their current uniforms (ok, the male-option uniforms could use updating)

These are indeed seasonal. Great for the Canary Islands especially if you can get a connecting through ticket with Binter .

Lattitude Hub (aka Canarias Airways) were due to fly between Tenerife and mainland Spain as well as potentially other places in Europe. Flights began on 25 July 2021, and were suspended after just one day - presumably because of disappointing ticket sales - see more at https://simpleflying.com/lattitude-suspends-flights/
It seems they have decided to restart on 29-October with flights between Tenerife-South and Madrid + Bilbao - or at least they have tickets on sale for this.
AENA's website shows the flights which is a good sign - but it's easy to cancel at the last minute. Given the company suspended after just 1 day in July, I don't think EU261 is a big factor in the way the company makes decisions

Anyone know if these flights are really going to happen ?

I am in favor of renaming the airline into flycana. It's such a great airline name and sounds wonderful. It should not be allowed to disappear.

Different media reporting that tt looks like Iberia is considering strongly paying the 40m Euros and walking away from the purchase. Not sure if they are serious or if they are playing hardball. Links only in Spanish sorry.

Wouldn't it be easier and just to wait? I mean, there are clearly signs, that the EC watchdog will never approve a merger under current market conditions. So wouldn't it be much cheaper for IAG to call the merger off by officially "blaming" the competition authorities?!

Wouldn’t want to get on Brussels bad side. A lot of lobbying probably happening behind closed doors which IAG I’m sure is trying to combat.

There’s some misreporting about this, €40M isnt’t a walk away clause fee but the fee if the deal doesnt happen due competition authorities not giving the go ahrad. If there’s a walk Away clause we don’t really know the amount that IAG would have to pay but personally I think that if it was as low as €40M then they would have walked away from this deal long time ago.

CAN THE CANARY ISLANDS BE THE NEW HAWAII FOR AMERICANS?

www.canarianweekly.com/posts/canary-islands-new-hawaii

Some very optimistic words from Ángel Bernabé I hope it works out and that these new flights last more than one season.
