Some very optimistic words from Ángel Bernabé I hope it works out and that these new flights last more than one season.

Well why not? There isn't anything that the Canaries dont have that Hawaii does..Each island has sth unique to offer and once they land in TFS they can go island hopping and explore the rest..And one advantage is that they are much more afforadable while Hawaii is extremely expensive

In summer I find the air and sea temperatures on the Canaries more pleasant. In winter on Hawaii.

Wizz said they want to connect the edges of their network with the XLR. The Cannaries may be connected with Moscow, Kazan, Israel, Finland, Reykjavik, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia ^^

Is there unused hotel capacity during peak time in the Canaries to accommodate significantly more people flying in on lots of new air routes, compared to 2019 ?

Would the XLR reach the Canaries, or even east coast Spain, from their AUH hub?

The Canaries are an all-year destination. In red are the number of overnight stays in 2019:

In comparison: In Mallorca and Menorca it's much more seasonal:

Regarding Wizz Air: The first XLRs come 2023. The Canaries and all of the mentioned destinations aren't bases yet. Wizz needs either to create a base on the Canaries or at the destinations. St. Petersburg is a base and could see flights.

The occupancy rate on the Canaries in 2019 was around 80%. Some additional 2-weekly 239-seat XLR flights may not have a big impact on the occupancy rate.

Wizz said they want to fly with the XLR up to 8 hours. That equals 3250 nautical miles. LPA-AUH is 3730nmi. The route will be longer because the Lybian airspace must be avoided:

So unless Wizz changes its mind and a fully loaded 239seat XLR can fly longer, it's a no ;)

For the Spanish mainland it's a yes:

I can imagine Wizz XLR flights from AUH to Madrid and Barcelona, possibly to PMI.

You're skipping the fact that Hawaii is the same country.

So? East-coast to Hawaii is 10-11hrs flight, same as ATH-NY..Americans don't mind travelling to foreign destinations if the product offered is worth it..

Americans tend to be much more keen on travelling in the same country when the currency is the same, the language is the same, and they don't need a passport

I saw this sign on the bus in Tenerife this morning.
Maybe time for them to take it down.

It's impressive the number of new routes between BCN and Italy that have been announced just this week:
- Ryanair BCN-Perugia (2/week) from March
- Easyjet BCN-Naples (daily) from March
- Easyjet BCN-Milan Linate (3/week-daily) from January
- ITA BCN-Milan Linate (12/week) from March
