Can you describe what the 767-300ER PS Mods will include?

PS seats (of course), new lavs, Y seat refresh, PED power at all seats, and LED lighting...unsure of the changes to the lavs and lighting. No changes to D1. Seating config will be C26W18Y+21Y151.

And how many are supposed to get the refresh? Twenty-some? Fewer?

I'm guessing the one 76Z that got the new D1 installed will rotate throughout the system rather than being confined to one specific route.

It didn't get the new D1 installed. Just PS.

Until the fleet gets scaled up, they will sell PS as C+ and C+ as main cabin.

Haven't seen that announced anywhere.

One of those lists with status would be great. This is something that seems to be constantly changing!

(underline by me) that's the key here, but... as of today...

Reactivated and currently in service(will be retired in the near future):
N171DN
N172DN
N174DN
N175DN
N179DN

Coming back to service but unknown if they will be retired before all 767s are retired
N178DN
N394DL

Parked but presumed to be coming back to service until fleet exit
N186DN
N187DN
N193DN
N194DN

Retired (supposedly), fate TBD:
N176DN

That site isn't up to date at all. What N515CR posted is the most up to date information regarding the 767s.

We will know more about the status of the 767s Thursday.

Re: Delta Fleet Thread - 2021

Wed Apr 14, 2021 3:00 pm

So in other words regarding the 763 fleet

56 YE2019, pre-COVID
-11 sold
---
45 frames still "owned" by DL
- 8 "retired" and not planning to RTS
----
37 frames that are to be in service in the near-term
- 5 that were "unretired" but are planned to be retired again soon
----
32 frames to be are around for a while
- 2 with unknown longvity
--
30

So, I guess what I can reasonbly infer, is the 763 fleet is going to probably sit around 30-32 frames for Summer 2022, but they might be able to flex that up a bit higher if necessary depending on if some of the "retired" aircraft are "unretired" for some period of time.

Heres the updated estimate on widebodies based on those assumptions:

Post-COVID:
TYPE Capacity YE2018 YE2019 YE2020 YE2021 YE 2022
B763 226 58 56 34 32 32
B764 246 21 21 21 21 21
A332 234 11 11 11 11 11
A339 281 0 4 8 11 19
A333 293 31 31 31 31 31
A359 306 11 13 15 15 17
B77E/L 290 18 18 0 0 0
WB FLEET 150 154 120 120 130

So, based on that assumption, they will still be down about 20-25 widebodies for Summer 2022, dependent on the delivery schedule for 2022 and how many 763s are in service.

3828 showing an exit from MCI today. 1 of 8 that does not have SSWs. https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/n828dn

For those keeping track at home, that brings the total of 739s and 321s remaining in storage to 2 per type: 3008, 3009, and 3886 at VCV and 3830 at MCI.
Also, with 668's exit, the # of stored 75D's goes to single digits.

Hearing some “rumors” of some fleet announcements coming out in tomorrow’s Q1 earnings release.

Pretty safe to say it’s not related to any retirements but I’m hearing anything from revised plans for 763, 717, accelerated deliveries, and of course the obligatory Max rumor

It’s a total WAG, but I wonder if they won’t bring back some/all of the parked 717’s, at least for the short-to-mid term?

Unless I'm missing a separate order, the order announced last week was only 20 units.

So it looks like delta.com has added the new seat map for the upgraded 767-300ER. It's going to be labelled as a 76K. I guess that is what's happening to N178DZ in MCI?

https://www.delta.com/us/en/aircraft/bo ... -300er-76k

As usual, apologies if this has been discussed already.

Interesting to see the seat map (PS at only 3 rows and 18 setas seems like it will be pretty comfortable). It will be interesting to see how they will price PS when the 767-300ERs are used on transcons. (With J on JFK-LAX sometimes as low as $600 each way there isnt all that much room for PS between that an economy) although i know PS is more geared towards INTL flying.

Is 6801 still going to ferry to BHM? because on Fr24 it says the same flight number, DL 8851 was supposed to go to ATL tomorrow, but is canceled and looking at N702TW’s schedule doesn’t show any flights to either BHM or ATL

Looking like it per FlightAware. Sometimes FR24 doesn't pick up every flight so quickly (seems to be more common with charter/ferry flights)

Man I forgot how stupidly small the bins are on the first tranche of A321s. I haven’t been on one of this vintage in 2-3 years, and they are gate checking bags even with middle seats blocked.

Has there been any plan to retrofit them with new larger bins? I know DL wasn’t happy that they didn’t turn out as advertised.

The official position was they couldn’t modify the order to a different non style so they continued taking new deliveries with the small pivot bins despite the awful performance.

In regard to checking bags on the 321 with middle seats blocked, that’s a result of not enforcing carry on policy, something they are incredibly poor at. You can bring on a house and they won’t stop you.

Anyone know why the 763 operating DL216 JFK-DSS turned around tonight? They were in the air for almost three hours. Looks like they have another airplane and are going to transfer all the passengers and bags and go.

From the Q1 2021 10-K filing - the official fleet update:

Current fleet summary:
Note, DL stopping indicating a difference between "current fleet" and "temporarily parked" in this quarter's update, and the only note is that "as of March 31, 2021 less than 10% of our mainline and regional aircraft are temporarily parked"

(+/- # indicates total difference from Q4 2020 numbers

Type, # total, average age
B712 50 20.0
B738 77 19.6
B739 130 4.6
B752 100 23.6
B753 16 18.1
B763 36 24.4 (+2)
B764 21 20.3
A221 41 1.5 (+3)
A223 7 0.4 (+2)
A319 57 19.1
A320 55 25.1 (+3)
A321 113 2.6 (+8)
A332 11 16.0
A333 31 12.2
A339 8 1.2
A359 15 2.7

Total: 768 (+18)

Notes:
- Numbers in 10-K are from Mar 31, 2021 and there have been some additional activations, temporary parking, and deliveries since
- B712 fleet has been reduced from 91 total pre-COVID, to 65 at the end of Q3 2020, to remained constant at 50 at end of Q4 2020 & Q1 2021. Of those 50, 45 are in service and 5 temporarily parked/ not in active service. If those 5 will come back to to service???
- B763ER fleet was reduced to 34 end of Q4 and now up 2 to 36; jiving with how some have been "unretired"
- A320 fleet was reduced by 10 retired in 2020, fleet was at 52 but current fleet is up 3 to 55 based on 3 frames that were "unretired"

Q1 2021 per 10-Q filing updates on the DCI fleet:

Regional fleet:

9E / Endeavor:
CR2 45 (+3)
CR7 13 (-5)
CR9 111 (-10)
TOTAL 159 (-12)

OO / Skywest:
CR2 0 (-12)
CR7 5 (-1)
CR9 40 (+1)
E75 68 (+4)
TOTAL 113 (-8)

YX / Republic:
E70 18
E75 41 (+11)
TOTAL 59 (+11)

DCI Systemwide:
CR2 45 (-9)
CR7 18 (-6)
CR9 141 (-9)
E70 18
E75 109 (+15)
TOTAL 331 (-9)

Notes:
- I honestly don't know what exactly is going on with most of the changes in fleet numbers; just going off of what was in the 10-K / 10-Q
- The CR2 number obviously doesn't include any of the Skywest / OO flying that is pro-rate/at-risk, and primarily EAS flying these days; OO has ~20-22 aircraft used for such flying across the system

Anyone have any clue why N702TW was sent to BHM this weekend? Short term storage to defer maintenance costs? That would seemingly be the only explanation that I can think of. Seems odd to stick a 752 into storage now when the new schedule has quite a lot of 752 flying over the next few months

Wait, Endeavor is decreasing CR9s? Temporary?

Like I said, I don't know what is going on with those numbers. That is what was in the 10-Q.
I suspect they are perhaps excluding anything that has been temporarily parked?

With the mainline fleet reductions, what are the implications to RJ scope?

My guess is that DL can do some gyrations with the size of the active fleet on the 9E side being wholly owned to stay in compliance with scope, versus where at Skywest and Republic they are tied a bit more contractually under the capacity purchase agreements.

That was my guess, too, after I posted. Especially when I thought about 15 E175 additions.

Btw, thanks for pulling this together. Very interesting, especially the un-retirements in the mainline fleet. I was disappointed we didn't get some (positive) news though.

Anybody know if they've set a date for the CR7s (or E70s) to disappear entirely?

No idea on the date but I can’t imagine it will be anytime soon if they plan on serving ASE. It might get down to single digits though

It is parked awaiting it's turn for a check. DL is at capacity at all of it's MRO locations, so certain ships will be flown right up until their check and subsequently parked.

That'll be the case for any frame parked here in the next month or so.

Looks like 767-300ER N174DN is exiting storage in ILN tomorrow (3/8/21) and headed to Atlanta. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N174DN

This is another "unretired" aircraft from ILN, where the ones that were left after earlier exits from storage were said to be being retired. N172DN was similarly "unretired" on 2/25/21. After 174DN leaves, there will be 4 DL 767-300ERs left at ILN: N394DL, N183DN, N178DN and N185DN.

I had been thinking that the ATSG folks were probably walking out on the tarmac and kicking the tires occasionally, given that these might be conversion candidates. At 30 years old, they are on the high side, but not beyond-the-pale. Hours are high, but cycles are low. As of 4-ish months before parking (SDR dated 11/22/19, ship parked 4/1/20), N174DN had 133072 hours, but only 18838 cycles.

So the ATSG folks can eat their hearts out for now, she's going back to passenger service for the near-term.

Many thanks. Makes sense. Certainly a good sign to have full MRO's at the moment.

The E70’s should be going soon because I think most are being moved to the AA Eagle operation by Republic.
