Ideally, this would be easier if this was a single combined DL fleet thread.
Nevertheless updates for this week:

Actual:

Mon 12/28 B764 BHM-ATL 1821 N845MH 9950 (storage exit); stored at BHM since 3/16
Tue 12/29 A339 NRT-SEA 3408 N408DX 3466 (first revenue/cargo flight post-induction) at NRT since 12/12, 8th A339 in service

Planned:
Sat 1/2 B752 VCV-VQQ 5650 N550NW (75H) 9936 (storage exit to maintenance); at VCV since 3/28/20
Sat 1/2 B752 VQQ-ATL 671 N671DN (75D) 9962 (maintenance exit); ferried from storage in VCV on 11/30
Sat 1/2 B763 ATL-MCI 197 N197DN 9950 (ferry to maintenance)
Sat 1/2 B763 MCI-ATL 180 N180DN 9950 (maintenance exit) ferried from storage at MZJ on 12/3/20
Sun 1/3 B763 MCI-ATL 1606 N16065 9937 (maintenance exit) ferried from storage at MZJ on 12/8/20

I third the request for a combined narrow and wide thread.

Just curious, does anyone have a list of what is still stored? I know that's a bear of a question...just seems like handfuls of various types keep rolling in week after week.
From the activity listed for this weekend, it looks like an incremental 1 752 and 2 763s coming into rotation. Assuming some domestic routes are getting upgauged given we're in January to begin with and then the ongoing pandemic? Or is there some international flying actually resuming this month?

75S N712TW to exit QRO tomorrow http://flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/N712TW

Also in agreement with a single merged thread.

I saw on Twitter suggestion of a coming AD for 757s regarding additional support for PSUs to prevent injury in the event of a survivable accident. Given DL removed the original interiors as part of the cabin refresh, is it possible they would've already made a modification which would suit the FAA?

Busy week ahead, following the holidays.

Another MD90 on the move out of BYH.
Also its apparent, that other than the 10 A320s that were announced to be retired in 2020, they are essentially putting all of the others back into service as almost everything above 3230 has been either reactivated to service and/or moved from storage to maintenance.

Last week actual:
Mon 12/28 B764 BHM-ATL 1821 N845MH 9950 (storage exit); stored at BHM since 3/16
Tue 12/29 A339 NRT-SEA 3408 N408DX 3466 (first revenue/cargo flight post-induction) at NRT since 12/12, 8th A339 in service
Sat 1/2 B752 VCV-VQQ 5650 N550NW (75D) 9936 (storage exit to maintenance); at VCV since 3/28/20
Sat 1/2 B752 VQQ-ATL 671 N671DN (75D) 9962 (maintenance exit); ferried from storage in VCV on 11/30
Sat 1/2 B763 ATL-MCI 197 N197DN 9950 (ferry to maintenance)

This week actual:
Sun 1/3 B763 MCI-ATL 180 N180DN 9963 (maintenance exit) ferried from storage at MZJ on 12/3/20
Sun 1/3 B752 QRO-JFK 6808 N712TW (75S) 9959 (maintenance exit); ferried from storage at VCV on 10/20/20

This week planned:
Mon 1/4 B763 MCI-ATL 1606 N16065 9938 (maintenance exit) ferried from storage at MZJ on 12/8/20
Mon 1/4 A320 BHM-SAL 3236 N336NW 9936 (storage exit to maintenance); stored at BHM since 3/21/20
Mon 1/4 B753 QRO-ATL 5811 N591NW 9937 (maintenance exit); ferried from ATL on 11/9/20
Mon 1/4 B739 QRO-MSP 3836 N836DN 9959 (maintenance exit); ferried from ATL on 12/4/20
Tue 1/5 B753 ATL-QRO 5813 N593NW 9936 (ferry to maintenance)
Tue 1/5 A320 SAL-ATL 3271 N371NW 9937 (maintenance exit); ferried from storage at BHM on 12/17/20
Tue 1/5 B739 VCV-ATL 3889 N889DN 9950 (storage exit); stored at VCV since 3/28/20
Wed 1/6 MD90 BYH-VCV 9208 N908DA 9937 (ferry between storage locations); stored at BYH since 3/19/20

Planespotters.net is generally the closest to most accurate snapshot of the status, but with some context.
They do miss some things and/or are quick to indicate an aircraft as "stored" if it hasn't flown in a few days.
In the current state, DL has a lot of aircraft that are in-service but at very low utilization rates. Particularly in the A359, A333, B764, B763, B712 fleets where some aircraft may go days, if not a week between flights. It can be more cost-effective to do rolling parking for upwards of 1-2 weeks instead of putting aircraft in short-term storage.

Thus, the numbers are a bit "slushy".

Did they ever announce which ten A320s were being retired? 3222-3230 are all parked at BHM and SBD and then maybe 3257, which is the only other 320 at SBD?

The 10 A320s that were retired in 2020 include 3219 & 3222-3230.
There are still a few more to reactivate out of BHM & SBD, but not many left at this point.
Pretty interesting considering that in April 2020 the entire A320 fleet was grounded / in-storage.

Looks like Delta was able to sell 7 767s.

https://thepointsguy.com/news/amazon-buys-delta-767s/

Are these the 76Ts ? Or the older 76Z version 2s?

These are the 76Ts. I doubt it would've been worth it to sell the 76Zs considering how much older they are and the high cycles.

Thanks. I presume these won’t be resold with their age but who knows. Also am curious where their final resting place ends up being. The outlier at MCI will likely be moved, I would think, but I’ll be interested to see if they part out and scrap some of these at BHM

Its actually either 3217 or 3219, not sure which one, along with 3222-3230. Almost certain fate to be harvested for parts. The previous batch of the older A320s that didn't go through the interior mod were sent to SBD back in ~2017 and harvested out there.

There's a perfect example of a planespotters.net failing like you cited up-thread. They don't yet show any of those ten A320s as 'historic.' They are all shown as parked.

There’s 3 A320 at BHM? (Including the one leaving today)

It is true that the "stored" category on planespotters.net was ambiguous, but recently the new category "parked" was introduced for aircraft that are still in a fleet but haven't flown in a few days.

As MIflyer12 already noted, planespotters.net is not up to date with Delta's last year's retirements, which includes the 10 A320 retirements missing. As far as I understand, it is mainly based on contributions from volunteers, so if anyone of you knows which were retired and which are just parked, in maintenance, etc., I am sure that they would appreciate if you could take the time to file a correction that moves the airframes in question to the historic fleet.

N386DA, a 738, is ferrying to BHM as DL9939 as we speak. I initially thought that it was a ferry for a revenue flight, but no 738's are on the schedule for BHM-ATL for a while at least (712 and CRJ9 for now, but they were running 738's pre-Thanksgiving). I presume this is for maintenance in that case.

N3764D and N3762Y were stored at BHM pre-pandemic for engine work (at least it seemed so, as both engines were removed on both aircraft). N3762Y is still at BHM (no clue what the deal is with this one, been there since August 2019), and N3764D left in September and is in revenue service. Will be curious to see what happens with N386DA

Whatever. I from then on I said screw it.

Hey all. Delta just announced a major Wi-Fi program. It'll remove Gogo 2Ku from the A321ceo, 737-900ER, and select 757-200s totaling about 300+ aircraft. Can we get a tracker going here for when the program ramps up?

I'm sure N515CR will be right on it. He usually has the skinny on when the planes go in for mods. :)

The new A321 ceo aircraft are said to have a different interior then previous A321s. Perhaps this just means overhead bins or will they have different seating, galley, lavatory configurations (the neo will have a different configuration as well)

Do you have any idea what the deal was with N3762Y? Last I saw it a few months ago, it looked like it was receiving an engine overhaul, but I could be totally wrong, as I was only able to catch a glimpse. It’s been at BHM since August 2019, which seems abnormally long. If I recall, it was damaged by a catering truck at JFK in 2016, but I’d have to check on that. Not sure if this stay has been related to said incident.

In 2019, DL had put a small number of aircraft into temporary storage, primarily to balance and/or defer airframe and engine overhaul costs.

There were ~3 717s, 2 738s, and a sub-set of MD90s that were put into storage after the end of the peak summer schedule.
It wasn't uncommon in years past for DL to temporarily park some aircraft during fall and winter to defer maintenance. You would occasionally see a few 757s or A330s get parked for a few months.

It means its being parked, and with management approval, rotable parts can be removed with the intent of being used on other aircraft.
That is a lot different than being scrapped or even a full part harvest / tear-down.

Not an uncommon practice with some of these parked aircraft for them to remove rotable parts to use on the active fleet. Particularly with the massive cost reduction and austerity measure in place where they are to avoid any unnecessary part procurement / outside spend.

UA has been doing a ton of this, and robbed a ton of parts of their aircraft parked out in ROW. They have a lot of parts to reinstall on some of those 777s if they intend to reactive some of those frames.

Makes sense, many thanks. Sounds like that temp storage just continued once COVID hit. I haven’t seen N3762Y since March 2020, but at that point, both engines had been removed from the aircraft. Not sure what it’s current status is or when/if it will go back, but that would certainly explain the length of the visit. Guess we’ll have to wait and see. N3764D was the other one, and it went back into service a few months back. Both engines were also removed from that frame at the time as well, IIRC.

IIRC, there was as relatively young 757 which did this and never came back which otherwise probably would've ended up in the batch DL updated a few years ago. 677?

I thought that plane was damaged in an accidental fire suppression foam discharge. As such, it seemed like Delta refused delivery.
