Hi Fly Malta just flew in from ANC with A343 9H-FOX, which, correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't visit too often, if at all.
-there's a little info on the a/c in the caption of the photos above.

Just departed over hour ago.
HFM was often here early this year with some cargo flights but stopped later. Seems like we might see them here few more times.

That’s excellent news! I forget the thread but there was mention of El Al not returning to BOS. Supposedly cleaned out their offices.

Today, (10/5/2021) a United A320 flew from ORD - MDW. Why? I just happened to pick it up on FlightRadar24. UA2546. Flight landed at 13:19 local time.

Wild guess, but maybe flying the White Sox? Is it flying on to Houston after?

That was a great guess. Sure enough, the next flight operated by the aircraft is UA2503 from MDW - IAH.

Two things. 1) I am surprised United would legitimately relocate a plane from one airport to the other to accommodate the White Sox. 2) I am surprised they aren't using bigger equipment to carry the White Sox to Houston.

I’m sure the conversation was United saying “look, you can either fly out of MDW, or you can have lie-flat seats, you can’t have both.” I imagine getting a 767/787/777 out of Midway would be tricky.

Either way, Jerry Reinsdorf (White Sox & Bulls owner) is a frugal man.

The NFL is the only league that uses widebodies for team charters. All the others use 737/757/A32X equipment. The Sox flew an AA 757 in 2005 but switched to UA not long after and have been with them ever since.

Some good home town news, according to Flightaware, ORD was the busiest airport for at least the last week with 13,761 total departures and arrivals. It's on their main page under the Aviation Trends section.

Just checked TFR's and seems like AirForce1 should arrive after 12:00pm and depart before 5pm. We can see more supporting stuff tomorrow.

I’ve been checking this weekly and it’s been ORD since June. Generally not even close on how many active ORD flights there are compared to the next at any given time.

Hi Fly Malta A340 9H-SUN inbound to ORD from ANC. This airline normally does ANC-LCK (Columbus-Rickenbacker) but did a right turn around Traverse City,MI (maybe weather related in Ohio)

Healthy upward trend through summer of course; Q4 is going to be interesting this year. Will ORD be able to crack 60m pax this year if we have a busy, more normal holiday season??

This evening I see another Voga-Dnepr Antonov An-124, this time RA-82079 operating as VI5233.
As I type its in the conga line for departure to KEF. That should turn some heads.

I am gonna quote myself and again the same aircraft will arrive at ORD within an hour as VDA5234, just a heads up. Weather not cooperating, but if someone likes water mist when thrust reverses applied then it is the good time to take a shot today :). ETA 3:42 pm

Also I saw today two ET Dreamliners (788 and789) that landed at the morning from SNN 40 miniutes apart.

Couldn't figure why I couldn't find a photo of this 332. It's to be expected: it begin its flight history with this reg last week.

Here it is in MEX in it's former life:

Actually I was monitoring it once found it descent and that flight landed at RFD. I think I need to go to RFD one day for a spotting but first have to find when something unusual will arrive there.

What are the chances of 4L being lengthened? Its short length seems to be a limiting factor during heavy crosswind days for departures

Not going to happen. Can’t extend to the NE because of Higgins Rd, can’t extend SW because that’s where the new terminals will be built.

These crosswind days are rare, and typically departures from the normal runways are fine. Only on a very rare day are departures performance limited with wind.

I have been anxiously awaiting an updated aerial satellite image of ORD on Google and looked around today and found that MapQuest has an updated one.

https://www.mapquest.com/search/result? ... ort%20(ORD)&page=0&mqId=7797318&index=0

Trying to figure out the date of the image and thinking Summer 2020: T5 construction had begun; runway 9C/27C is mostly complete but doesn't look open (that happened in 11/2020; the grass looks greenish/brownish so I initially thought winter but could be mid-summer dry spell.

Edit: If you zoom in past 300m the image reverts to an old one.

Then the links inside there to filter for dates and areas.

There is a timelapse option, so you can see the changes overtime. You have to sign up in order to save it.

Taking a step back in time to 1974 with this photograph showing a UA 747-100 and the former ORD International Terminal in the background (precursor to the current T-1).

Can anyone tell me the name of the airline, seen in the background, whose 747 bears an insignia in the form of a backwards L?
I was around O'Hare at that time but can't remember this airline, although it looks familiar. This has puzzled me for some time.
Extra points for identifying the other a/c in this image!

Speaking of the old T1, there used to be a 10-15 minute video on YouTube documenting its last day of operations. The video title was "O'Hare International Airport Terminal 1-last day 14March 1985". It's link was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afJeeJENZvM.

Unfortunately YouTube has taken down the channel for an unknown reason (I don't recall any unusual/offensive content on the channel). It was a neat channel in general, lots of great old videos from around Chicago and other videos of miscellaneous aviation. If anyone else has seen this video and possibly knows its source, I'd love to work with someone to get the video back online.

It’s an awesome photo. Other gems I see are a TWA L1011 in starstream colors in the background in front of the TWA hangar. An AA 707 to the right of the AF 747. A Capital Airlines DC8 parked at the International Terminal, a Eastern DC9 in the white colors, a Piedmont 737 in the old pacemaker colors and a Braniff 727 in the beautiful green BI flying colors. There is a DC10 that appears to be AA which could be from Acapulco or MEX which they flew nonstop from ORD with DC10s in the late 60s early 70s. There is also what looks to be a 747 parked at the IT just in front of the tail of the UA 74. I think it’s a Pan Am 747 because of the US flag. The only US airlines with 74s in white that flew internationally from ORD would’ve been TWA and Pan Am back then but TWA’s flag was slanted and PA’s was straight which this one appears to be.

Where does it mention ORD-EDI resuming? This (https://www.instagram.com/p/CVAhzKarBHa/) mentions only IAD-EDI. ORD-EDI is for sale, but it would be good to see some official confirmation that it's returning.

About 20 seconds in or so in the video (buttons on the backpack scene), the last entry for resuming routes listed ORD-EDI. No date when it will resume, just that it is.

That flight is coming from Vietnam and they seemed to have switched from LAX to ORD, maybe trying to avoid the cargo mess in LA. CFS US customs west of ORD has been going crazy, as bad as last year. I think they are rerouting even more cargo traffic into ORD and RFD now.
