The model of CM is based on loading planes through PTY with passengers coming from abroad.
However, DL has a decent Latin American coverage from Atlanta, even though their weekly supply of flights is not the same before March 2020, in most cases.

However, they're not operating yet: St, Maarten, Cordoba, Mendoza, Recife, Rosario, San Andres Island, Manaos, Paramaribo, Santiago de los Caballeros, San Francisco, Barbados and Las Vegas.
CM PTY-MSY is programmed on December 04th.
The current demand of passengers is mandatory on changing their former plans.

Coincidentally, a friend also told me that yesterday and that what some outlets had mentioned about the termination of the PTY-MSY route were incorrect. Now in more I will try to do more cross-check of the information.

I think WN was flying HOU BZE so will restart from there not IAH (WN does serve IAH again). UA does IAH BZE of course.

Looks like CM didn't want to keep PTY-MSY not even as a Mondays and Fridays day-time rotation aimed to the weekend/week traveller, IMHO, CM's B737-800 wouldn't have helped any potential passenger demand for such operation.
Bet Panamanian and other Loyola, Tulane, LSU students and Pat O'Brian patrons mourning CM leaving MSY.

Braniff International and Eastern Air Lines flew the PTY-MSY sector, so many years ago.
The commercial ties between New Orleans and Central America are historically focused in Honduras.
NK MSY-SAP 3x weekly started in July as scheduled flights. The same route was attended in the past by TACA and SAHSA.

The ties between New Orleans and Honduras are more historical than current. Outside Honduras, there aren’t many ties between New Orleans and Latin America. I’m not surprised CM couldn’t make it work.

NK flies MSY-SAP a couple times a week. That should more than satisfy demand. New Orleans is a really great and fun city, but it’s not a particularly international city in this day and age.

I agree. New Orleans was one of the main gateways linking the United States and Central America, more than 35 years ago.
The demand of passengers is limited, like Denver - Central America.
Nowadays, those travelers should easily choose UA [MSY - IAH - Central America], on a daily basis.

Those maps also show certificated/authorized routes as well. No one has ever flown MIAHNL nonstop. CO also did that type of route map back then.

Coincidentally, a friend also told me that yesterday and that what some outlets had mentioned about the termination of the PTY-MSY route were incorrect. Now in more I will try to do more cross-check of the information.

PTYMSY is permanently discontinued and no longer in reservation systems through end of schedule.

As I said previously, I also thought the same point until a friend clarified to me that although MSY has not resumed at this point or does not appear in the reservation system, it doesn't mean that it has been cancelled yet. Its possible that CM may be waiting until demand is high enough to relaunch MSY (perhaps with a different schedule), as well as the other destinations that are still suspended and moved a moderate number of passengers prior the pandemic, something that I don't expect to happen until mid-2022 at the earliest.

Besides that, as Kilgen previously mentioned, CM decided to keep a small fleet of 6 737-700s. Although it was a surprising move, I can understand why they done it: they need an aircraft to perform the flights that their retired E190s originally made and where the demand is not strong enough to fill an 737-800.

It could be a certainty, but time will tell.

According to several local news media, Edelweiss will begin a 1X flight to LIR on sundays flying a triangular route ZRH-SJO-LIR-ZRH. SJO will have an additional 2X nonstops for a total of 3 flights per week. First flight into LIR operates November 28th. Great news and yet another European operator. These triangle segments are trendy in Costa Rica, given KL AMS-SJO-LIR-AMS.
Before March 2020, Air Transat flew TS [YVR-SJO-LIR-YVR] with 321 Neo. It hasn't returned to Costa Rica.

My very own guess:
Achieve the best possible fleet commonality.
This means that regardless having announced the B737-700 was out too, it chose to keep it.
What was the reasoning for going for E190 instead of B737-600 when CM could have kept fleet commonality with different capacity aircraft models with almost the same range? Political move with Brazil (aiming for open skies)? = We might never know.

I've always thought they were cheaper as well.
CM utilized these planes for their low density routes.
From I had read before, the baggage allowable capacity was always an issue against them.
The Covid-19 era only sped the withdrawal plans of their Embraer 190 jets.

Aruba Airlines also has the crj200. And also a bahamas company has the erj145. So not only dr and t&c.
Plus there are plenty of light turboprops and islanders flying which cannot deal with the loads that your mentioning.

Besides the point and venturing into straw man territory at this stage. Not that many RJs flying within the islands - and those that do are low utilization compared to other airplane types. Still haven’t provided evidence of “lack of max baggage policy” regarding COPA either.

The smaller airplanes aren’t as baggage restricted for the missions they fly (and naturally they’ll hold less as they carry less passengers) - the E190 is - as mentioned earlier up this and other threads - making them less favourable floor COPA in this current economic climate.

Won’t be saying anymore here regarding Caribbean carriers and their equipment as that has its own thread and I don’t want to derail this one.

The conclusion was that someone traveling on CM had more flexibility to carry more cargo.
However, this baggage allowance policy didn't fit perfectly in their E90s.
I couldn't find accurate sources in order to prove this point, but this hypothesis was extensively commented on this board and it makes sense of logic.

The smaller airplanes aren’t as baggage restricted for the missions they fly (and naturally they’ll hold less as they carry less passengers) - the E190 is - as mentioned earlier up this and other threads - making them less favourable floor COPA in this current economic climate.
