Just came in on HA82. Flight was awesome, with two meals during the flight. There was a pre flight ceremony in HNL which included Lei and Hula. We flew to AUS with Peter Ingram the CEO of Hawaiian.

It was not heavy at all going to AUS. Although they said going back to HNL was much higher. There were about 10 completely empty rows in economy.

According to the ABJ, Austin airport is building new 90,000-square-foot cargo facility to keep up with demand for e-commerce.

Hawaiian is receiving incentives for HNL-AUS: https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/ ... -take-off/

Landing fees waived for two years and a marketing incentive of up to $100,000 in advertising and marketing costs for a year, with $50,000 for a second year.

I checked yesterday and it looked like First Class was full with minimal seats remaining in Economy. Good luck to Hawaiian.

Thanks for this. Do you have a visual of where the new facility will be built? The article doesn't seem to have one, hence the ask.

Finally.

This is actually a pretty useful route addition for me as I have family 4 hours South of Monterrey without any good air service. Beats driving to San Antonio, although I imagine the cost will be a little bit pricier out of AUS than out of SAT. We'll see.

Thinking of AM I went to their site and tried to book a random trip to MEX on 1 July, the date that AUS's website says the service is supposed to resume. Alas, no nonstops on AM to MEX, either.

Viva can't start new US routes until Mexico's AFAC is back to category 1. The FAA downgraded Mexico's civil aviation authority to category 2 at the end of May.

Aha, no wonder...thank you. What of AM, then? It's not a new service, and would "only" be a resumption. Would that be affected by the category 2 downgrade?

I’m booked on AM in August - hasn’t been affected as far I can tell.

Austin has a LOT of tech money going in. Many, many thousands of affluent tech workers. Workers who can easily plunk down for a Hawaii vacation. Mind you, telecommuting also allows _remote working from Hawaii_ while remaining on US soil. And the timezone is favorable, you just wake up early and log in at 5-6am.

Hawaiian will do absolutely great on this route.

Wow. Is AUS now AA's largest outstation/non-hub in terms of number of destinations served?

Impressive adds by AA! Especially the international ones. Do you have a link that shows the breakdown of mainline versus Eagle here? Do you know how many departures this will give AA in AUS? It will be interesting to see how this affects AUS-DFW connecting traffic.

All of the new domestic routes are on the E175 aside from SJU. The four international routes and SJU are on the 738: https://viewfromthewing.com/american-ai ... om-austin/

The press release said AA and its partners (JetBlue/Alaska/British Airways) will be up to nearly 100 departures on peak days: https://news.aa.com/news/news-details/2 ... fault.aspx

That should put AA's peak flights at around the 70-80 range.

WN re-adding AUS-SEA nonstop service might be a possibility as the demand was there for WN AUS-SEA nonstop service 4 years ago with WN having an average load factor of 86.06% on AUS-SEA nonstop service in 2017. WN dropped AUS-SEA nonstop service in January 2018 back when WN was facing a plane shortage, but WN will be taking delivery of more new planes and WN now has more gates at AUS than it did 3 years ago.

WN adding AUS-JAX might be a possibility, even if on a Saturday-only basis, with WN having at least Saturday-only nonstop service out of AUS to most of its other Florida markets. RSW and PBI will be the only other WN destinations in Florida without nonstop service out of AUS once WN starts AUS-SRQ nonstop service.

WN adding AUS-LIR/NAS/PUJ/SJU nonstop service might also be a possibility, even if on a Saturday-only basis, with WN already serving other international destinations nonstop from AUS such as CUN and SJD.

WN adding AUS-CLE/MKE nonstop service are possibilities with the recent adds WN has made to ORD, CMH, and MSP in the Midwest from AUS and with CLE and MKE being two of the top destinations traveled to from AUS that aren't currently served nonstop from AUS.

WN adding Saturday-only AUS-LGA nonstop service is also a possibility with WN no longer serving EWR and with WN having previously operated Saturday-only nonstop service to LGA from PHX and SAT (which are outside of the LGA perimeter).

Factoring in all of AA's new routes so I'm using November 13 (Sat) and November 14 (Sun) to account for the new routes and frequencies. Also doing only AA/DL/UA for now.

Do note this is highly likely subject to change since it's so far out.

Not a meaningful statistic due to Covid

It was nice to see AA add an earlier flight from MCO, it will be good for capturing cruise ship passengers returning home.

Allegiant just added 7 new routes from AUS; source below. Destinations:

AMA
SDF
SNA
PVU (Provo, UT)
FSD
SGF (Springfield, MO)
TUL

Service starts on Nov. 18 with twice-weekly flights to each. Yes, it's "just" G4 with the usual token two flights per week, but I find some of these interesting, like PVU and FSD.

Factoring in all of AA's new routes so I'm using November 13 (Sat) and November 14 (Sun) to account for the new routes and frequencies. Also doing only AA/DL/UA for now.

Do note this is highly likely subject to change since it's so far out.

Sorry if there's any inaccuracies but this should reflect what's currently scheduled.

American Airlines:

November 13: 74 departures (LIR/SJD/PVR operate Sat, not Sun)
2x BOS
6x CLT
4x ORD
13x DFW (11x + 2x new)
2x LAS
4x LAX
5x MIA (3x + 2x new)
2x JFK
2x MCO (1x + 1x new)
3x PHL
3x PHX
1x SJU
2x TPA (1x +1x new)
2x IAD
2x BNA
2x MSY (1x + 1x new)
2x RDU
2x CVG
3x ELP
2x IND
1x JAX
2x MCI
1x OKC
1x TUL

Many thanks for putting this together, great snapshot of what AUS will look like toward the end of the year.

One note, looks like 2x STL was omitted from your list sir :)

Interesting the Tulsa add. This means that two airlines will serve the route non stop that hasn't had nonstop service since VC's short term operation out of the South Terminal a few years ago.

I'd forgotten about that short-lived service. And TBH I'd forgotten about AA's TUL service...you're right, that makes it even more interesting.

Does anyone know if BA will operate next month (specifically around Aug 20th)? The flights are still available for booking (daily A350). Or has the schedule not been updated that far?

I ask as I was looking for tickets yesterday and LH was available as well (3/4w A330), only for it to be gone today. I know that schedules are extremely volatile but I would like to take as low a risk as possible.

The UK isn’t looking good - the next announcement from UK government on whether they’ll open up is supposedly July 19 (and even then, if you’re connecting via LHR to a third destination, you’ll want to check how UK arrivals are treated).

I’d expect to see LH back in AUS first at the rate things are going with the EU - but you might want to book via IAH to be on the safe side (LH 440/441 have resumed, if they were ever suspended).
