According to some german aviation forums DUS will be the first new german Destination after the Open Skies Agreement has been signed. Starting December 16, daily on a 787-8. Now they can fill the gap that Etihad left.
They originally intended to start both DUS and HAM but the Open Skies has some limitations before it becomes unlimited in Winter 2024/2025. From now on Qatar Airways can only offer 7 additional weekly services to German cities other than FRA and MUC. From winter 2022/2023 it will be another 9, from winter 2023/2024 another 12 and then unlimited one year later.

QR has an ownership stake in CX, and alliance partnership so seems quite logical. They did the same with BA and LA previously.

In whom they have stake and may never have the bandwidth to operate those aircraft

All of which will be F-equipped. Be interesting to see how QR sells those seats.

Well, CX has limited options and places to fly those 77W's given the restrictive measures in place to enter Hong Kong. There's little to no business demand to HKG at the moment. QR has leased planes to and from airlines in the past. It operated some LATAM A350s for a time, and has leased planes and pilots to BA as well not that long ago. Leasing planes from another airline and being a top rated carrier have nothing to do with each other.

Ex CX 77W A7-BOB is already reported on Skyliner as in service.

The following B77W are leaving/have left and being returned to their lessor BOC Aviation, then would go to Qatar Airways:

Registration/ MSN/ Line No.
1. B-KPL 36161 / 818
2. B-KPM 36159 / 835
3. B-KPN 36165 / 839
4. B-KPP 36164 / 845

As what ContinentalEWR has mentioned, Hong Kong currently has one of the strictest COVID19 entry requirement and may get worse due to Omicron variant. Most of the CX flight are being done now by A321neo, A350 and some A333/B77W. 70% of B77W fleet are now stored at ASP. Way too many excess capacity now, hence the early lease return/ lease cancellation. Demand or HKG flight literally tanked.....

Qatar Executive took delivery of it's eighth G650ER in November, followed by a triple delivery this month and with one more to go before the end of the year, taking the fleet to 12 G650ER.

Rumor: Qatar Airways will lease Etihad’s A350s. This has to be confirmed.

Are there plans to update the existing business class seats on the A350-900 to the current 787-9 ones?

Interesting, as EY showed off the A350 at the airshow recently.

It doesn’t really make sense IMO. Etihad only has 5 350s that they would want to use soon. And given Qatar are complaining about 350s I’d assume they’d want some unwanted aircraft from Etihad like their 777s or 330s. But I could be wrong as I have no knowledge.

Not saying it will happen, but makes sense to me. Remember leasing out the A350s means EY can delay entering them into service…which means delaying training and induction costs. If the price is right might be worth it. It’s not like EY desperately needs the planes at the moment-leasing them out might be more profitable than actually using them in service, especially with the Omicron setbacks.

There are some thoughts (only rumored so far) that Qatar Airways may let their two 748 freighters fly for a European cargo operator. This arose as a result of Air Belgium announcing a search for 748 pilots for three freighters to be acquired in early 2022. Would QR lease or sell outright to CMA CGM to be operated by Air Belgium (similar to the four former A330Fs of Qatar Airways that went to CMA CGM) or lease or sell outright to Air Belgium . Would QR do that or keep the two freighters to be chartered only? Mystery where a third freighter would be sourced (eg possibly one of the ex-Saudia freighters sold to Hongyuan?)
