At a total of 331 seata, the A351s will have more seats than their 779s (325 total with 8 F) reportedly.

Intriguing! Is it the lighting or is this plane in some sort of silver and white(?) scheme?

The A380 at BA was always about slots at LHR and among the principal reasons the type was acquired. As COVID's impact on the industry grinds on, wondering if the A380's future at BA is really all that secure. The A350-1000, B777-300ER, B787-10 seem like the future higher capacity plane for BA, even if they don't of course replicate the haul capacity of the A380. I've not followed BA's pandemic plans all that closely, but curious as to what the future really holds for the A380s at BA.

BA renewed their maintenance contract for A380s recently, so clearly they see a future for it. They're in a pretty unique position where they can use the size of the aircraft, they don't have the same luxuries as AF or LH. BA has never been shy about keeping aircraft for their whole lives, I can't think of any aircraft they've retired early in the last 2-3 decades, so it's about as safe a bet as you can get that the A380s will return, it won't take much for LHR to be congested again, in which case disposing of fairly new aircraft that have worked well for the airline is a bad decision.

Not a matter of if, just when. BA use their aircraft till there’s almost no life remaining in them, which I think makes sense considering how much airlines pay for them. Plus the 380 works very well on the routes they operates. So I expect to see them at BA into the 2030s operating alongside the 777X on high capacity long range routes like LAX, SIN, SFO etc
SANFan wrote:Help still please!
This morning it was confirmed that BA will re-start service at SAN on Oct 13; the aircraft listed for the service is "777." Starting out, the flight will op on 3-5-7. I'm sure it's too early to predict when that might be at a Daily frequency.
Can some knowledgeable person please confirm which flavor of 777 it will be? I assume it's to be a 772 but just not sure which configuration; I would be even more thrilled and amazed if it turns out to be a 773!
Thank you in advance for your response.

BA have received ten of their order G-NEOP, G-NEOR-Z and have three more on order. G-NEON is a PA-32 but the rest of the block is available.

I'm just wondering why it could be delayed past December 7th if DFW already has a gate with A380 capabilities?

Just a complete guess, but perhaps the lounge. Certainly the gates are there and EK and QF are not using them of course. If memory serves, pre-pandemic, JAL wanted to upgauge to the 777-300, but there was a concern about the lounge. Maybe it wasn't big enough or high end enough. So, 787s stayed. Maybe with all the extra seats at once with a 380 flight, and many F and J, the lounge isn't adequate enough.

Make that 4 for the time being:
"British Airways confirmed that four A380 aircraft would return to service to start with. The jets are going to be flying to Los Angeles, Miami, and Dubai in December.
Reports suggested that Dallas Fort Worth was also on the cards, but facilities to handle the giant are still being implemented."
