The article also notes some highlights of the process to return parked planes to service. https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/qant ... index.html

Nah, that’s just occasional maintenance that they’ve been doing for months. It’s just that the wheel wackers have made some fame for themselves since Qantas tweeted about them yesterday. VH-OQC and VH-OQE have/will fly out, but Qantas is definitely not rushing to get every jet in the air and into immediate service.

Hey VCVSpotter, are you saying OQE will fly out? If so do you know when?

Don't know when exactly, but I know that it will 100% fly out for maintenance. VH-OQC needs to be outta LAX first so they can have the hangar open for VH-OQE.

Been told it’s this summer, heading to Europe. Don’t have a specific date.

Any idea why? Debating on heading out there today.

PH-BHA is gonna be repainted, it apparently has paint adhesion on her wings. If you are quick, you can still spot her with patches of speedtapes all over... :ouch:

Oh, ok. I noticed that it parked next to the paint hangars and heard it was for touch up repaint. Thanks!

Does anyone have any information as to 787’s LN 887, 893, 913 which are supposed to be heading to Lufthansa from November?

Who will do the mx work, get them up to operator satisfaction, cabin mods etc.

Everything is being done by Boeing. It's an undelivered aircraft currently under their ownership. I've been waiting to see how stable the rumor is before saying/posting anything 'officially' about LN887 (I saw it in the Boeing hangar before the order was announced). Given that it's been a few weeks and a lot of people are expecting LN887, 893, etc to go to Lufthansa, I might post that photo tomorrow and upload it here as well.

ANA 777-300ER JA782A flew HNL-MHV as NH9432 for retirement. Looks like one leaves the fleet every Tuesday.
https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/ja782a

Air Canada 787-9 C-FNOG flew SAT-VCV as AC2339 for repaint.
https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/c-fnog

A note regarding VCV repainting:
It's well known that VCV has 4 paint hangars: 2 narrow-body and 2 wide-body. We know with 100% certainty that Air Canada 787-9 C-FNOG, Amazon 767-300F N521AZ, and KLM 787-9 PH-BHA are at VCV for repaint. Which means two things:
1. Amazon 767-300F N521AZ has finished repaint and should fly out in the next day or two (shouldn't be too much of a surprise, it's been here since May 22).
2. Omega DC-10-30CF N264DE is NOT at VCV for repaint since the two hangars are occupied by Air Canada and KLM's 787s (or somebody's gonna be waiting a longgggg time for their jet to get out of VCV). Can anybody think of a reason that N264DE could be at VCV?

Finally, Virgin Orbit just announced that the launch window for their "Tubular Bells" launch will open in late June. There will be a live stream of this launch on YouTube which will be nice for everyone else around the world who can't get to MHV. :)

El Al 787-9 filed EWR-VCV 1:45PM - 4:05PM as LY31 on Sunday, June 20.

Not sure why two El Al 787-9s are headed to VCV….I believe the maintenance hangars are busy with maintaining stored 787s and the Mexican Government 788 while the paint hangars have KLM and Air Canada 787s….El Al has leased 8/12 of their 787-9s, could this be a lease return even though they’re only between 2-4 years old??

KL might be dropping by more often maybe, because her sister PH-BHH was also seen riddled with speedtape bandages recently at AMS. Dont know how long it will take before they sent her off for a paintjob too

Will all these wing repaints be a warranty case, (partly ?) paid by Boeing.

https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/c-fnog

Air Canada 787-9 C-FVLQ flew YYZ-VCV as AC2339 for wing surface repaint. What's interesting is that 4X-EDA and PH-BHD are already here for repaint, so it looks like Air Canada will be waiting around for a little bit, especially since El Al already has another one scheduled for Sunday. Somebody's gonna be waiting around for a week for a paint job.

Also, I just realized I didn't do a 'trip report' after my trip up to MHV on Saturday:
There isn't that much that's new, but there are a few things:

Virgin Orbit is at the pad adjacent to the runway 30 threshold, getting prepped for their launch: 'Tubular Bells'
https://virginorbit.com/the-latest/tota ... xt-launch/

Qantas 747-400ER VH-OEJ has her engine #1 removed, so that's essentially confirmation that the entire Qantas 747-400ER fleet are goners (all the others are engineless, have been debranded, and are in various stages of part out).

I also got to check up on EVA Air Cargo/Lufthansa 747s. There's steady work going on transferring parts from Lufthansa to EVA (they were even working on EVA's tail when I was there).

Yup, heard it’s a 787 issue in general, British Airways has their 787s getting repainted at SNN and United had the issue 2 years ago with a few of their 787s also heading to VCV for wing surface repaint.

A friend who was up there a few weeks ago said it was violently flapping around in the wind (presumably because they removed all the hydraulics/support structures to keep it in place). Guess sometime between then and now it snapped off due to the wind.

Not sure why they wouldn’t have removed it before it snapped off.

Delta 767-300ER N192DN filed VCV-ATL 3PM - 10:40PM as DL9940. Slightly surprised to see a DL 763 leave VCV, but great to see some jets getting a few more years of life.

Sky Lease Cargo 747-400F N904AR filed ORD-SBD 1AM - 2:41AM as GG9904, likely for maintenance at AeroPro. Ex Korean Air 747-400F N570B has supposedly been ready to leave SBD for the last few days but keeps getting cancelled so N904AR is probably taking N570B's place.

Volga Dnepr AN-124 RA-82043 flew VBG-SBD as VI4703. Should be leaving to NCE on/before July 1.

Delta A220-100 N114DU exited storage SBD-SLC as DL9936.

Virgin Orbit 747-400 N744VG filed MHV-MHV 6:10AM - 7AM as OBT01 tomorrow (Wednesday June 30) for their launch, Tubular Bells. Times (especially arrival) are likely arbitrary because they need to head out 1 hour over the ocean before they get to their launch area. I'd say a more realistic arrival time would be around 8:30AM at the earliest.

VCVSotter. Question regarding "Note, runway 17/35 is back open at VCV." where have they moved the aircraft that were stored on it to. Thanks in advance.

Aircraft are parked on runway 3/21 as well as taxiways Alpha and Echo between Echo 1 & Echo 2. There are aircraft jammed everywhere possible, but interestingly, there are none (or only one) at the GE hangar now.

Wouldn't have missed ER-BAC today for the world, such a cool catch. Here are several photos from me and my friends today: :D

Thank you sharing those amazing shots @VCVSpotter! The 747 is forever a beauty; gracious yet powerful at the same time.

ER-BAC could use some repainting or wash. She looks pretty worn. I am wondering why they named her "Punnagai Poo" who is a Malaysian radio personality, film producer and actress. Any idea what is her fate? 23 years old is very young for a 747 to be scrapped.

Hopefully for some MX work, since those Stan airlines have been adding even more 747s to their fleets this past year. Maybe a repaint, and maybe returning home with a hold full of 747 spare parts to keep the fleet rolling.
