Azores Airlines flies the longest commercial Airbus A321LR flight

Sat Jan 09, 2021 12:39 am

As per simpleflying, Azores Airlines flew a nonstop flight between Lisbon and Bogota, taking just under 10 hours; beating Air Transat record of a 9 hour flight using this type of aircraft

Sounds a bit misleading as the aircraft is most likely weight restricted to operate that flight nonstop due to the altitude of Bogota's airport. It probably wouldn't be able to operate it nonstop at a full payload. On most flights they make a stop along the way.

If it was BOG-LIS, yes, but this was LIS-BOG.

It’s amazing how much performance Airbus has managed to get out of the A321. Amazing airplane.

Was anyone actually on the flight? Was it just a ferry flight? The airline doesn’t serve bogota.

For reference, the delivery flights for 737s for European airlines usually go nonstop between BFI and Europe since 10 hours without passengers isn’t a big deal for the modern narrowbodies.

It is impressive for sure but as I said before, it probably flew with restrictions in order to make it nonstop. There were probably few passengers on board which made a nonstop flight a possibility. Nonetheless, the A321NEO-LR and later the XLR version are impressive birds in their category as narrow body airplane.

Were there even passengers on the flight, or was this just cargo?

That wouldn't be much of a factor on the westbound, which this was.

:checkmark: :checkmark: :checkmark: Particularly seeing as it used to struggle just to do a US transcon, not too long ago.

This was a cargo only flight. No passengers. It was originally scheduled for December 19th:
